One could never tell what another person thought about how to rule a country, which way was the best way and what strategies to use and etc. This was also the reason that most people did not engage in discussions about politics. Or they felt it dull which was a perfectly legitimate reason, though Plum herself had never found that to be the case with herself.
“Yes, I like my classes for the most part. The work hasn’t interfered with any of my personal business so I must say it isn’t all bad.” For the most part the classes weren’t too terrible. Some were quite enjoyable, and others were not quite as enjoyable. As long as she could do the work without it interfering with running her kingdom then she had no problems.
Vanessa nodded. It was always good to like your classes, otherwise you were miserable in them, which was never a pleasant experience. It also helped to like the people in your classes, which so far she hadn't. Especially not one Humperdinck. He was a rather large pain for her, and it wasn't one she really wanted to deal with.
"Good, good. What about the people?" She was just wondering, it seemed like a good question. Plus, maybe she knew Ariel and Eric, and this was a good way to intro that.
Plum thought it was perfectly reasonable to wonder about the people in her classes. The other students could make or break the class. It was nice when the whole class got along well, but it was rather off putting when one student did not behave. “So far I’ve found that the people are generally well mannered and friendly. I myself tend to spend quite a bit of time to myself so I don’t know many people.”
But then a though occurred to Plum. She herself had not met many people, but she had heard about people. And with The Slap, how could she not? It was the gossip all laid out for her. “I have heard about people, but you can’t believe everything you hear. Especially The Slap. I’m not quite sure what to make of it, but there’s certainly plenty of gossip.”
Vanessa hated the slap. Hated it with a fiery passion. "Ah yes, I am well aware of how unreliable the Slap is." It was true. It tried to say she and Humperdinck were, flirting! Such horrible things! She shook her head at the mere thought. It was nonsense. She knew it and if he knew what was good for him he knew it was as well.
She was quite surprised when she realized there was a gap between Plum, herself and the rest of the line. She glared at the people behind her right back, then took her time moving up. She wasn't letting them push her around.
Well it seemed that The Slap was a rather sore subject with Vanessa, which could only mean that it had probably said something completely untrue about her. Now that she thought about it Plum did remember something about some Vanessa and a prince. She couldn’t remember which one, though it was hard to keep track. It seemed there were always princes here. Plum had also been featured in The Slap, but she mostly thought it was all a bunch of nonsense and she laughed it off. Well mostly.
Plum noticed that while they had been chatting the line had moved up. “Oh good,” she said delightedly. “I’m so glad that line has gotten shorter. I can’t wait for pie.” Pie seemed like a much better topic of conversation as she moved to close the gap. “Pie just makes everything seem better.”
Vanessa actually smiled when they started talking about pie. It was after all a subject they could both agree on, being in a bakery to get some. It was a simple fact. "I'm hoping it's good pie. With this line it must be pretty good." If everyone was willing to wait this long for some pie, it had to be pretty good.
She was surprised. She didn't usually enjoy talking to people, much less strangers, but, here she was, having a good time with Plum. She didn't know how to react to that, because it was a new feeling for her.
Vanessa was right. With the way people had lined up to get pie it had to be at least decent. No one wanted to eat terrible pie and they most likely wouldn’t line up like this if the pie was terrible. It was clear the bakery was doing something right. “I certainly hope so,” Plum agreed good-naturedly.
Then again, if it wasn’t as good as she had hoped there was always magic. It certainly paid to be a fairy with a sweet tooth every now and again. “You know, I don’t think I’ve had really good pie in a long while. They should make pie more often.”
It was strange. Vanessa didn't usually agree with people on things, but, here she was, agreeing with Plum. She didn't terribly mind it really. It was turning out that she was one of the more tolerable people on this campus. She was surprised by this, however, she wasn't going to question it.
"I can't say I have either." Pie wasn't something she'd really had much of, but, from what little she had had, she remembered it being pretty good, so it was worth having some more of it.
While Vanessa was finding it strange to actually agree, Plum did not. This was what she did. She was very agreeable for the most part, so agreeing with people happened on a daily basis. And if she didn’t agree it was always politely. This conversation with Vanessa was different in the fact that she was being so open. She wasn’t usually this open with people.
Now the problem was that there was only so much a person could say about pie and it seemed like they were fizzling out. Plum did not want that, and being polite, she tried to get the flow back to where it had been. “Do you have a favorite kind of pie?”
Vanessa moved forward finally to the counter. She looked up at the menu to decide exactly what she wanted. Admittedly she should have done while she was waiting in the line of excruciating length, but that was neither here nor there. She was having a hard time deciding exactly what she wanted
Vanessa couldn't help but look to Plum. "I'll take whatever she's having." If she couldn't decide, she might as well let someone else decide this for her. She seemed to be a source to be relied on in times of need.
Well it seemed that they finally reached the counter and that was good because now they could have their pie. Finally. That line seemed to take forever, but now they had reached the counter and it was time to eat pie.
“Oh, I think I’ll have apple pie,” Plum told the young man behind the counter with a smile. He nodded and quickly brought them both the pie and Plum handed over some money. She turned to Vanessa. “Well it was very nice to meet you, Vanessa. I’m sure I’ll see you around.”
