Q. What sort of time period is Tintagel/Trenale in?
A. The city itself is roughly modern, so the technology and such equates to what we have available to us now.
Q. So how do medieval/other past characters fit in?
A. When students arrive to attend Tintagel, they are given briefings and information by the Grayle corporation (this is not usually played out) so that they know things like what a computer is and how electricity works. However, you are welcome to play with this as much as you like, if your character hasn't taken it all in they're still welcome to get freaked out by 'that box with the tiny people inside', or they can be totally at home.
Q. Does my character have to have just arrived?
A. Not at all, your character can be brand new or could have been here for a while.
Q. Are the players the only students/residents around?
A. No. While currently there are only one or two NPC accounts, eventually there will be more. Until that point, it is to be assumed that there are lots more people both at school and in the city. You can throw in as many NPCs as you like in your posts, as long as you don't use actual characters. (For example, you can't use a fairytale character who hasn't been taken as an NPC, in case somebody later takes them).
Q. Where abouts is Trenale anyway?
A. IRL, it's actually in Cornwall. For the purposes of the game, Trenale is an English city but it's not quite connected to the rest of the world. While there are links to our world (for example characters can watch TV shows and read books that actually exist) it's not directly a part of it - otherwise anybody could be wandering around, and given that it's a fairytale school full of magic, that would probably be a bad idea!
Q. How do the characters get here?
A. There are portals connected to each fairytale world that students travel through.
Q. I can get a job, but what do I get paid in?
A. When your character arrives, all their money is transferred to Trenale money, which is simply called gold, silver and bronze. Your character's money or lack thereof is completely up to you, however poor characters can recieve scholarships and grants from the Grayle Corporation - it's up to you whether or not they've asked for them.
Q. What if my character has been played before?
A. This is a very common occurance and there are several ways to deal with it. You can treat your character like an entirely new person who just happens to have the same name as a previous character, leaving the old character's history in tact but in no way having to pay attention to it. You can continue with the previous player's history and relationships as if they never left. You can, with permission from the other players, completely retcon the previous version of your character. Some people have also worked out a parallel universe situation, where the new character is just a different version of the old character, but they are essentially the same person.
It gets very complicated, and the people of Trenale have learnt to deal with it, but the general rule of thumb is that there's a lot of magic about, the portals are not very stable, and anything can happen.
