Personality: Scottish…oh sorry is that not enough? Ok, Loud, Happy and even if he’s completely sober almost always sounds drunk. Doesn’t believe in any in-between emotions and jumps from one extreme to the other but as stated, Happy with a capital H. He doesn’t go into a strop or huff when things don’t go his way as he has been aware from a young age that sometimes you just have to take what life gives you. Firm believer in the saying when life gives you lemons make lemonade, add a little extra something, something, maybe a bit of ginger and voila, you have your hangover cure. When he’s in a temper he’s really in a temper and will smash, break and hurt whatever he’s fighting be it a person or furniture. However even when he’s angry in any second he could burst out laughing. Thinks he has a brilliant sense of humour and isn’t afraid to laugh at himself first. Fancies himself quite the charmer and doesn’t go two minutes without flirting with someone (or something). Doesn’t get despondent when he’s knocked back either, assuming that the person in question just cant handle his awesomeness. Although he doesn’t strike it often. but that was with the young shepherdesses and tavern wenches of back home. Whilst he prefers the one night kind of relationship he is fiercely loyal to his family and friends, and is most deeply hurt when he is betrayed by one of them.
Appearance: Scottish. Really? Still not enough? Fine. Tall broad and dark with strong features and grey eyes. He has been training to fight most of his life and has the muscles, scars and whatnot to prove it. Believes his best feature is his arms which he has worked hard to get into perfection and doesn’t mind showing them off to anyone who might be impressed with them. Dark brown hair, dark thick eyebrows and a little bit of stubble that he keeps to show off to the ladies. He is thinking about growing a beard.
Back in Orkney he wore brown leather leggings a brown jerkin and a darker brown leather coat over the top, with, you guessed it, brown leather boots. There wasn’t much colour in Scotland other than brown and green and he had something against green for some reason. Does have a tartan kilt with him but that only comes out on special occasions. Or whenever he thinks his legs are looking particularly good and wants to show them off.
History: (The part where I take many different versions of Arthurian legend and attempt to collaborate them in to one)Gawain was born in Scotland. Or rather, that bit up north where all the wee mad Celts were that no one could control except that big ugly brute of a King called Lot. His father was said Brute and his mother Morgause (Not to be confused with that other Morgause that’s Morgana’s sister…maybe…TBC) the sister of Igraine who had married King Uther. He grew up being taught to be proud of his country, fight for power, do his duty and have as much fun as he could. His father was more concerned with running his country, happy in the knowledge that he had sons to ensure the kingdom stayed in the same hands but showed no interest in them until Gawain was old enough to start learning the important stuff. His mother wasn’t that great either being more interested in her own appearance than the education or upbringing of the sons she bore her husband. Thus what they learned was from the brief time they spent with their parents and the tutors and warriors that lived in the castle. Most of the time they did whatever they wanted, Gawain the ring leader and his brothers, Agravain, Gaheris and Gareth following his orders.
However once he was of age his father decided it was time he took to fighting and learning the art of war, or rather the Scottish basis for politics and ruling a kingdom. Gawain took to it like a fish to water and really began to enjoy it. He fought all day and was in the tavern all night, and he was quite happy with this, so long as his brothers got to join him. He argued often with Agravain the second oldest who was always challenging him as Gawain was set to inherit the throne. Gawain tended to laugh him off not taking him seriously but put him in his place if he had too. In contrast to that he loved and spoiled the youngest brother Gareth. Gawain would spend almost most of his time with him, teaching him how to hunt, fight, drink and get women.
It seemed life would continue this way until one day his father decided that he would make himself even more useful and head off to Tintagel. Under the guise of getting an education he was to seek out his cousin Prince Arthur Pendragon and discover why he would send his only son to such a place. They had heard that Uther himself was there as well and Lot was extremely interested to know why that was as well.
Other: Gawain is awesome. And Scottish.
TELLtheTALE
Sample Post:
He really needed a drink.
Gawain had just come through the big wibbly wobbly magic thingy and was now standing in some kind of market place, or at least it had the same feel as a market place. It wasn’t that there was no magic up in the Highlands, there was, lots and lots of magic that was allowed to run around unchecked, but this place, this was something more than magic. He decided after a couple of minutes that he was just going to go with it, magic or not it all looked fascinating. Fascinating in the kind of way where he really thought a good strong ale would make it even more fascinating. What he found deliciously fascinating were the clothes, or rather lack of clothes. Now he had seen low necklines but nothing compared to this, and as for the skirts and the lengths of some of the dresses, it was…fascinating.
He walked along the street with his bag slung over his back enjoying the view and walking into a couple of strange machines with four wheels. Despite the fascination it was all just a little confusing and he wasn’t quite sure how exactly he was going to find his cousin in what was appearing to be quite a large strange place. That was until he saw the sign. It was clearly destiny that he should walk this path.
He grinned happily.
Crossing over to the door he pushed it open happily and took in the other people who all turned round to look at who had slammed open the door. Gawain stood in the doorway holding the doors open and spotting the barman said, “Drinks are on me everybody. And keep them comin’.”
Suddenly in the face of such glorious drink, finding a prince didn’t seem that important.
