The courtyard is decorated extensively with various spooky things - jack-o-lanterns, fake spiderwebs, etc, and the whole place is lined with little enchanted lights that dance, outlining the courtyard in a glimmering glow. There is a DJ (it's Professor Mumble) playing all the latest dance hits (and taking requests). There are also tables on either side of the courtyard with assorted food and beverage selections. At the center of one end of the courtyard is a large welcome sign, reading:
The faculty and staff of Tintagel Academy are pleased and proud to welcome the new and returning student body back after an extended summer vacation (the vampire problem has absolutely been addressed and is no longer an issue). In the past, we have hosted many Halloween parties of different sorts, and it felt only right to kick off the new school year with a costume party in that same tradition. All students and staff are welcome here. Please do not spike the punch. Have a delightful and safe spooky evening!
(you all know what to do!)
yeah i'm keepin' it together but you don't know the half of it
Snow White had never had the pleasure of attending a costume ball before. When her father was still alive she was simply too young and once her died the Queen had made it clear that it was above her station to attend. She sometimes saw the glimpses of fine velvet and silk fabric brushing past her room. She was most fascinated by the masks, usually resembling some sort of living creature. She understood the idea of it was to conceal ones identity, though she never quite understood why. Regardless, she could hear the musical and the laughter and she had long so desperately for many years to make friends with those who attended instead of simply the creatures they posed as. She loved her animal friends, she missed some of them that had not made the journey with her to this magical place, but people had a certain swirling depth to them that animals did not. There was more to find in a person, more to love. She’d been lonely in the past in a way she couldn’t explain. Now that she had made a few human friends, she knew what she had been missing. Needless to say, she was thrilled at the idea of seeing them again and at a costume ball to boot!
She made her dress with several things in mind. She thought she aught to compliment the pretty fall colors surrounding the place so there was a lot of lightly burnt oranges, soft browns and just a touch of her usual red. It was pulled together with a few white accents around her waist and in her gloves. She also considered the fact that, traditionally, she was supposed to be representing a creature of some kind. An animal or a fairy or something of that nature. She decided her friend the doe would do nicely. The mask she had crafted with a combination of layers of fabric, glue, and paper, was light brown and dotted white in the spaces between her eyes and the edge of the mask. The nose that covered her own was painted darker to resemble that of an animals. Her lips, left uncovered, she’d painted a soft, warm pink. As she looked herself over in the mirror, turning to and fro and adjusting the bow on her back, she removed one glove to run along the various textures between her patterned bodice, lacy sash and soft cotton skirt. The third thing she considered made her blush, but she told herself it was ok to make certain her dress could be enjoyed whether you could see it or not. It was only considerate, after all.
Slipping back on the glove, she took a breath and she practically skipped the whole way to the event. She was exactly on time, as she thought she was meant to be, but it was rather empty save for a man behind a booth that was playing music and a few students milling around. The music was very unfamiliar and how it was playing was a mystery to her, but she’d been around just long enough to understand there were a lot of things she had yet to learn. Holding her dress up in the front with the use of both her hands, she smiled and giggled as a few little birds circled around her head. She greeted them merrily then headed to a table to sip on a drink.
