Dusty wasn't sure if this was real life or just a dream. She knew that she had closed her eyes in her dorm room but she hadn't opened her eyes there. She'd woken up only moments ago to get ready for her early shift at the diner before classes started for the day to find that she wasn't in her dorm room at all. She was in a cozy little room, snug under a nice warm quilt. There was a comfy looking armchair in the corner of the room.
Tentatively she got out of bed. It looked like all of her things were there. Her clothes and her trunks and the shawl she'd left over the back of the chair in her dorm room was now draped over the arm of the comfy looking armchair. She still wasn't completely sure that things were alright, but this was okay so far.
Dusty pulled back the curtain on the window, ready to start her day. But when she saw made her stop and stand completely still. Snow. The ground was covered in a layer of white and snow was falling even as she stood there looking out at it. And then Dusty was scrambling for shoes and her shawl and she rushed out of her room, past a cozy little sitting room and a kitchen and the bathroom and another closed door which may have been a closet or something and out into the snow.
Dusty twirled around. It was so cold, colder than she had ever imagined, but the snow falling down around her made it worth it. She shivered into the shawl wrapped around her as she stood there watching it snow. "It's snowing," she whispered. Anything louder felt like it might break the spell of the snow and it might all be gone in a moment. Snow. She was seeing and feeling snow for the very first time. It was like magic.
