So everyone pretty much agreed that taking on the Mess Hall without a wizard or an army would be difficult, after what Judy had found there earlier. But she figured it would be a good idea to get started on everything leading up to the Mess Hall. The building wasn't all that huge, though it had a few rooms that could be quite useful, since apparently arts and sciences were housed here normally. Judy, after downing a few more carrot shakes with energy supplements, had arrived to the building determined to at least knock out a room or two.
Only to find that someone had already beat her to it. The entrance had already been all but scrubbed clean. Sure, Judy and Nick had whacked their way through weeds to get to the Mess Hall, but it hadn't been this... neat. "Someone knows how to clean," Judy marveled, staring around as she walked in. There was an almost path leading straight to the arts room, and from within, Judy could hear singing. She shifted her grip on the different cleaning supplies she had: the clippers, buckets, cleaning supplies, and she entered the room.
"Hello?" she called, looking around. She located the bustle of activity in no time: again, the singing helped. Though Judy couldn't help but let out a low whistle. Again: girl knew how to clean, that was for sure...
Rapunzel hadn't been here long, but she had realised immediately that this place needed a little love and attention. Luckily if she was good at anything, it was cleaning. Stuck in a tower all her life, there was little to do there but clean, and bake, and clean up from the baking, and paint, and clean up from the painting... well, you get the idea. Being used to her spotless tower, this place practically made her twitch. She had to get to the floating lights, but maybe it couldn't hurt to clean up just a little while she waited for Flynn to find her and make good on their deal.
Singing rather loudly to herself, she dusted, swept, and scrubbed her way around the room. She had forgotten how hard work this could be; cleaning every day, often several times didn't really allow for any dirt to build up. But this place was a gold mine of cobwebs and grime.
Through her song another voice cut in, and she turned quickly toward the source. Another pretty brunette, this one carrying buckets, presumably to help clean. “Hello,” Rapunzel greeted her. “Do you live here? I didn't think anyone would mind...”
"Uh, Hello," repeated Judy, again staring around her. At least it wasn't hard to figure out where the cleaning had come from: there was the source, standing right there, looking pretty cheerful and somehow both completely out of place in the cleaning and totally comfortable with it at the same time. "I live in the castle," she pointed over her shoulder, "in the dorms, like most of us who just got here. And trust me, I definitely do not mind."
She set her cleaning supplies down, turning to look around. "You are really good at this!" she said, letting out another whistle. "Like, whoa." Grinning she turned back to Rapunzel. "Together we could get this place cleaned up in no time!" Judy nodded, striding toward Rapunzel, hand outstretched in greeting. "Judy Hopps, nice to meetcha."
The answer she got was a little confusing to Rapunzel, but she had the feeling that was going to be the case a lot on the 'outside world'. In the dorms? Most of us who just got here? Were a whole bunch of people just arriving and moving in here? Pretty strange timing for her to wander in here along with them, but maybe it had been that lighted thing she had stepped through. Maybe it had opened for someone else who had been invited to live here and she had just happened to find it and wander through.
“Well, I've had a lot of practice,” Rapunzel replied a bit sheepishly to the praise. When was too early in meeting someone to tell them she had had little to do since she was able to walk but clean and reclean her home?
Suddenly the woman approached her with her arm out and Rapunzel took a step back, startled. But no, she had red about this, a type of greeting, right? “I'm Rapunzel,” she replied, grabbing Judy's hand and shaking it back and forth vigorously. “Nice to meet you too!”

"You and me both," said Judy, laughing lightly. She was tempted to bring up the farm thing and how she'd done work there before the academy and all, but she could already see the nerves on the girl. Rapunzel had almost shied away from the outstretched hand and movement, at least enough for Judy to pause, letting her finish closing the distance.
"That's the fun part of this place, right? All these new people to meet," Judy nodded, then released the hand, looking around. She'd thought she'd felt some real vigor there, and had Rapunzel shook the hand a little awkwardly? Well, Judy didn't think she should probably make a thing of it. Maybe that's just how they did things wherever Rapunzel was from. Judy looked around the room again. "Where did you leave off...?" she asked, before taking a guess and pointing. "I figure I could help you there, if you don't mind the company. I'm not going to object if you want to sing either."
Judy gave the other girl a quick smile and a nod, before moving to literally roll up her sleeves. When she saw a job, she knew she wanted to go forth and do it, and this was an easy job to do. Well, easy in theory; it would still take a lot of work in practice.
Meeting new people certainly did sound fun. Her mother had always told her people were all terrible and scary, that they were greedy and when they saw her hair they would want to steal it, with her attached if they wanted the powers it concealed. So far, though, this hadn't been true at all. Flynn, Della, and now Judy all seemed perfectly nice and helpful, and didn't seem concerned at all about her hair. Surely her mother just hadn't met people like them before, right? She wouldn't lie to Rapunzel, she was just... overprotective.
“So far everyone has been really nice.” Which, of course, by everyone she meant the whole two people she had met here so far, but in Rapunzel's world that was a lot of people! Looking around the room as well, it was kind of easy to find the places she had been as he long hair weaved from corner to corner, making a good path to follow and show her progress. “I've finished all that,” she waved to the other side of the room, “so it's just this wall, really.”

"I'm glad you've had that good fortune," said Judy, a little laughter in her voice. "Though I've been meeting mostly good people myself. Bartok, Nick, Della, Merlin, you..." Judy shrugged, figuring there was little else to add there. She looked back to the wall Rapunzel indicated, picking up her material. No time like the present, after all. She walked to it, only just realizing something as she got a little distance between her and Rapunzel.
"Is that---your mane?" she asked, pointing at what really looked connected to the girl. "There seems to be a bit of it," Judy stood on her toes to try and get a good look: she was fairly tiny after all. And it was just distracting enough to keep Judy from beginning the work proper on the wall.
