Of course she went for the book she wanted Lorelei to read. She smiled all the same, nestling down. Maybe she'd find the whole thing quite interesting, after all. The covers pulled up, tea warmed her stomach, the wounds seeped in to take away some strength. But most importantly, Genevieve was there, a comforting presence that reminded Lorelei of her mom in all the best ways. Mom was always busy, given that there were so many of them, but she'd made sure to take the time to read to her children, particularly since there had been three that were all around the same age. It had been a special moment.
"You'll make a good mum," mumbled Lorelei, yawning and sliding a little more. She watched her sister through slitted eyes, listening to the strange story of a family that was perfectly normal and the strange boy that would end up upturning their lives. Who knows, maybe it would be interesting enough for her to become interested. She certainly held on for quite a while before sleep overtook her...
She smiled at Lorelei’s muttered words, feeling a warmth in her chest as she glanced down at her sister. She continued to read, long after Lorelei had fallen asleep, comfortable and happy in the feeling of that’s renewed and strengthened bond between her and her sister.
Eventually she stopped reading aloud, continuing to read silently to herself while Lorelei slept. She would leave eventually, after making sure that Lorelei had everything she could need within arms reach to avoid her getting up, tucking her in so she wouldn’t get cold, and leaving the book nearby, so Lorelei could continue reading it when she woke up. But for now she would simply read, glancing down to check on her sister every now and then, feelings of love and protection tight in her chest each time she looked at her.
