Personality:Elaine is a lady, through and through. She is kind and gentle, but firm. She knows when to scold and when to encourage. Elaine is a serious young woman who takes her duties as a lady of Astolat seriously. She knows she has a reputation to keep up and acts accordingly. She keeps a cool head in all scenarios knowing that her people look up to her to guide them. Most notably, Elaine is reserved. She keeps her thoughts and opinions to herself unless they can help a situation and she chooses her words very carefully. She knows and understands the power of words and speech to quiet an incident or incite a rebellion.
Elaine is a born leader. In times of crisis she rises to the challenge with a calm and collected demeanor. She is confident in her decisions and always willing to listen to those who wish to advise her.
To those she knows Elaine is much softer. She smiles easier and does her best to be the kind of friend she would like to have. She likes to play practical jokes on occasion and has been known to play at sword fighting with her brothers. While she is often quiet with the people she is close to she is more often unfiltered in her words. She is less careful with her words and her appearance.
Appearance: Elaine is known for her beauty. Hey skin is pale from keeping our of the sun and get hair is dark. She wears a serious expression, but this does not seem to detract from her beauty. She is tall and thin, looking graceful like a dancer, very unlike the beauty standards of her time. Elaine takes great pride in her appearance. She dresses simply but elegantly, preferring to dress in shades of blue. Her taste is simple but refined as befitting a lady of her station. She carries herself with a sense of self assurance and self possession. She very rarely wears jewelry though she has several fine pieces. It isn't practical for her everyday life of rotating bed linens and managing the finances.
History: Elaine was born the youngest child of Sir Bernard of Astolat and the only girl. She was raised by her doting parents and looked on fondly by her two older brothers. She was loved endlessly and proclaimed to be a beautiful child. As she grew she adored her older brothers looking up to them as playmates and protectors. They taught her things she should never have learned such as how to skip a rock and how to swing a sword. Very soon Elaine learned at her mother's elbow how to run a household and how to be a lady.
She was a fairly serious child, watching the world around her and asking questions when they occurred to her. She watched and she learned very quickly that her place as a lady of Astolat would be much different than that of her brothers. Being a lady meant a much different kind of education. But Elaine persisted that she should have an education like her brothers did. So Elaine learned to read and write as well as her brothers could and she learned math even better than they did.
As a child Elaine tended to follow her brothers around. She adored them and their lives were so much more interesting than hers. And of course her brothers only encouraged such things by teaching her how to swing a sword. And of course their friends were her friends, which was how she met Lancelot. Elaine followed the knights in training around whenever she could, pranking them and playing at sword fighting. Lancelot was kind to Elaine and she simply adored him. As they all grew, the boys became knights and Elaine became a lady. She saw less of Lancelot but they were always friendly. Elaine's adoration grew into love.
Elaine took on more and more responsibility as she got older. Her mother's eyes were beginning to fail and her father appreciated her sense of calm and composure so she all but ran her father's estate. And as time passed she often heard word of the feats of Lancelot. It pained her to know how devoted he was to the queen, but she could not begrudge his love for another. She couldn't expect him to love her after all this time. They hadn't spent much time together since they had been young and he was more often in her presence. Elaine persevered on her own and tried to put it from her mind if she could not put it from her heart.
And then came the alarming disappearances of the King and Queen.
Other: Elaine is quite exemplary at embroidery.
TELLtheTALE
Sample Post: The past few days had been troubling. Word had reached Astolat that King Arthur, Queen Guinevere and Merlin had gone missing. It was certainly a crisis in the making. Astolat was all abuzz over it. And while it was very concerning, Elaine would not lose her mind over it. There was no time for that. With the King and Queen gone and Merlin with them there was no telling what might come. It was likely that some kind of magic spell had gone wrong. It was also likely that something else was afoot entirely. Whatever was happening, the people needed comforting. So she had comforted them kindly and firmly reminded them that life would go on in Astolat as it had always done and that had been that.
Elaine blinked and in that moment she saw something she had never seen before. A swirling vortex. In a moment she was lifted off her feet without a word. For a moment she felt like she was floating and then, with a sickening lurch, she was falling. She let out a small scream and then she was on the ground. When she opened her eyes, though she couldn't remember closing them, everything looked very strange. She stood carefully. Where ever she was, this place looked like it had been left untouched for many years. There was no telling what could be out here. She would have to be on her guard.
She wished she had some kind of weapon. In a small pouch at her belt she had her embroidery scissors, but unfortunately those were not going to be any help. At the very least she was thankful she was wearing her sturdy boots. She stood tall and conveyed the surrounding area. She lifted her skirt and began to walk. There had to be people somewhere. She would not allow herself to be magically kidnapped for no reason. She would get to the bottom of this and get home as soon as possible.
