He couldn't help but roll his eyes at the mention of Star Wars - it had become a natural reaction given how often Tristian brought it up, but this time it was accompanied by a smile. "Gods, you lot and Star Wars. You are such unbelievable nerds."
He felt a pang of jealousy at the idea of her sharing something with Gaston Jr - but he quickly convinced himself that was because he was such an unbelievable loser, and not because of any sense of not wanting to share her time with another guy.
As the cake and their drinks arrived, he deftly added one sugar to his and stirred it, before taking a sip - he drank so much coffee these days he seemed to have developed an immunity to the heat.
He raised his eyebrows in faux innocence as she noticed the two forks. "Nothing to do with me - maybe that barista thought it was for me and was hoping I'd offer her a bite..." He teased, testing the water to see what Meredith's reaction would be.

"If you just gave it a chance I'm sure you'd love it." Admittedly Meredith thought that of anyone, she was so enamoured with star wars she didn't know why anyone wouldn't like it. "We should watch it sometime, together..." She wasn't really sure what to make of his teasing, did it matter that they didn't have so much in common? Was that important? Maybe he would learn to love the stuff she loved... or maybe it wouldn't matter after all...
" Do you think so?" She looked up from pouring milk into her tea, glancing over at the barista, who unluckily at that moment was giving Mordred an admiring glance. She frowned, shifting as if getting comfortable whole conveniently moving herself closer to Mordred. Lifting one of the forks, she sliced off a bit of cake and pointedly took a bite.

Mordred looked at her with an eyebrow raised and a smirk. "You think so? Well maybe I'll let you educate me on the ways of the force and we'll see if you're right." He watched her over the rim of his coffee mug as he took a sip. "You'll probably just find my lack of faith disturbing."
What the hell was that? Sure, you couldn't be Tristian's best friend without picking up a few nerdy quotes here and there, but using them on a girl? This was a very new experience for Mordred.
As subtle as she attempted to be, he noticed Meredith move her chair closer, and hid his smirk behind his mug as he took another sip. It was ever so possessive, and Mordred had to admit to himself, he liked it. If he was honest with himself, he hadn't even noticed the barista, other than the fact she existed and was female, and that was extremely unlike him.
"Either that or she wanted to share it with you," He teased, shifting his leg slightly so that their thighs were pressed against each other. He leaned back in his chair again, the picture of casual, all the while unable to explain why his heart was beating a little faster.
It's the chase... the excitement of a chase, that's all...

Meredith's eyes widened slightly because Mordred just quoted star wars. This was like red alert levels of ... of what? Attraction? Because someone as handsome and charming as Mordred paying attention to her and quoting star wars was probably on some kind of dream list somewhere. She felt an urge to pinch herself.
He was even shifting closer and the warmth where their thighs pressed together almost felt like burning. She blushed again, taking another bite of cake to distract herself. "She was definitely looking at you... you can go talk to her, if you like..." she offered, the barista was probably more his type anyway.

He couldn't stop himself glancing over at the barista at Meredith's words, who was, indeed, throwing him glances over the counter. Normally he'd had been over there immediately, it was only Meredith he was with after all - but today there was definitely something different in the air, and he didn't want to go anywhere.
"Why would I want a barista when I've got a princess?" He said without thinking as he turned his attention back to Meredith. Suddenly realising what he had actually said, he attempted to backtrack slightly. "I mean, why would I want to talk about coffee over there, when I can talk about - ugh - Star Wars over here." He grinned and winked at Meredith, before reaching over, second fork completely ignored, and took hers out of her hand, eating the bite of cake she had on it.

She brightened considerably when he said that, did he really want to stay with her rather than go and flirt with a girl who was clearly interested? And the backtracking afterwards, was Mordred actually flustered? Nowhere near as much as she was,of course, but even the tiniest crack in his perfect charm was strangely endearing, like maybe this wasn't just am act.
When he stole a piece of her cake she gave him a look of mock offense, pressing a hand to her chest. "How dare you. You cannot steal the princess of camelot's cake."

He sensed her brighten at his words, and couldn't help but smile. Turned out he like making her feel good - who would've thought? Especially since he spent most of their childhood tormenting her... not just her, obviously, all the Camelot Kids, but still. He was incredibly confused.
He grinned at her pretense at offense. "I apologise profusely, princess, I forgot myself." He bowed his head, pretending to be somber, as he used to fork to cut off another piece of the cake. "Let me make amends," He smiled coyly as he held the fork up and fed her the piece of cake, reaching over immediately after to wipe icing from the corner of her mouth with one finger, and, keeping his eyes on hers, placed his finger in his mouth to lick off the icing.

"As well you should," Meredith said with pretend haughtiness, though what casual attitude she'd managed to gather shattered when he offered her the forkful of cake. She leaned forward nervously, taking the offered mouthful.
When he wiped her lip and then licked the icing off his finger, she blushed yet again, licking her lips nervously.
"I-I think you've made amends," she tried to keep up her royal tone, it didn't really work "although you do still need to convince me not to tell Tristian that I'm your favourite..."

He could hear the change in her voice, and it made him smile. He'd done this a hundred times, to a hundred girls, but never before had he felt that jolt in his stomach, or had to remind himself that he was in control of this situation.
It was a little scary, the fact that he knew he more or less had complete control over this situation. Looking at Meredith, at her behaviour, at the blush that kept flaring on her cheeks, he was pretty sure that he could take this wherever he wanted. And by the gods, he was tempted.
Putting the fork back on the plate, he placed his hands around his coffee mug to steady them, leaning back again in his chair, his eyes still fixed on Meredith's. "That's very true..." He said thoughtfully, a small smile playing on his lips. "So tell me, what should I do to earn your discretion?"

"Hmmm, well..." She pretended to think about it, tapping her cheek thoughtfully. She reached out to take the last forkful of cake, eating it slowly and even trying for a little bit seductively, sliding the fork out between her lips. She hoped it had the intended effect and didn't just look stupid.
Putting the fork down, she mirrored his pose, leaning back in her chair and looking at him over the rim of her tea cup "perhaps a kiss?" She felt far too forward asking like that, but she needed to know if he was just playing with her, if he'd actually act on all his teasing or if he would reject her. At least the only person who'd see here would be the barista.

And there was that jolt again. Not only in his stomach this time, there was a definite feeling a little further south than his stomach as well. The temptation was growing...
And then she answered him. He raised one eyebrow, watching her carefully over his mug. He had to admit, he'd been angling for that answer, but he hadn't expected her to come out with it so boldly. He liked it.
Putting his mug down, he very slowly leant forward, resting his arms on the table and bringing his face close to hers. "Oh, really?" He breathed, his lips mere centimetres from hers. "Well, I do really need you to keep my secret..."
Leaning forward those last few centimetres, he gently placed his lips against hers, kissing her softly to start with as he brought his hand up and gently cupped her cheek.

When he leaned so close she found herself holding her breath, waiting for the other shoe to fall, the joke to come, the rejection, but then he was leaning even closer and before she knew it he was kissing her. It was actually happening, his hand was on her cheek and his lips were on hers. His. Lips. Were. On. Hers.
It took a moment to get over her shock, but once she had she leaned into It, lifting her arms to wrap around his shoulders.

It was better than he'd imagined it. As she wrapped her arms around him he moved his hand up to run it through her hair, prolonging the kiss, gently parting his lips and pressing in to the kiss more intensely as he placed his other hand on her waist.
Eventually they parted, and he smiled coyly at her. "Well, that was new." He said quietly, brushing her hair out of her face and stroking her cheek gently. He'd never really noticed quite how beautiful she was before. "I hope you'll keep my secret now?" He smiled.
Tristian is going to kill me in my sleep if he ever finds out about this...

Between the holding her breath and the kissing, she felt quite breathless when he finally broke away, and she smiled at him almost giddily. It was the lack of oxygen making her feel dizzy, right? That was it? Not how hypnotic his eyes looked this close up, or how nice his hand felt stroking through her hair, or how good he smelled.
" Well, I'm not sure, I think I might need a little more convincing..." She said softly, her smile turning a little teasing. She couldn't believe this was actually happening, she almost wanted to look and see the expression on the barista's face.

His smile grew at her response and he raised an eyebrow teasingly. "Well, I never knew you were so hard to please, Princess." He replied, leaning in closer to her once more. "Well, I really do need you to keep my secret..." He kissed her again, placing a hand on her thigh and stroking it gently.
Breaking apart, Mordred started to think that the coffee shop in the middle of town was probably not the best place to be making out, quite heatedly, with his best friend's sister. (And also technically his cousin, but let's just conveniently forget that for now.)
"So, I have a pretty good idea of how I can convince you..." He said softly in her ear. "How about... we go back to mine... and..." He paused, teasing her with the anticipation. "You can educate me in the ways of the force."
He sat back and smiled at her. "Tris left his copy of Star Wars something or other at mine. What do you think? Be a bit more private than here..." He muttered, glancing at the barista who had started to stare.
