It had been ages since Belle had been able to go to the stables and see Phillipe. Since they were commandeered, not many students were allowed to be there unless they were fighting. But three months...three long months since she had been able to see her cloven footed friend and she couldn't stand it anymore.
She waited until nightfall to sneak in. Her hooded cloak provided a small sense of stealth for her, though entirely pointless. If she was to be seen, a cloak wouldn't change that.
After walking what an onlooker would see as a bit too casually, she made it to the stables. A familiar angry stomping was quietly echoing. She couldn't help but beam, knowing he was ok. Well, as ok as he could be. He wasn't an angry horse by any means, but she pitied any knight who had thought of riding him into battle. Save for her and once or twice her father, he was not at all fond of other people trying to ride him. The few who had tried in the past had been promptly kicked off. Sticking close to the shadows, she came up beside his pen and quietly slunk in. At first, Phillipe started neighing loudly at this sudden intrusion, his hooves pounding the ground.
Belle removed her hood and grasped his muzzle gently, placing her head on his.
"Shhhh. Phillipe! It's me..easy boy. It's only me." She whispered quietly. The Clydesdale's eyes grew wide, and the fear was replaced with a sorrowful happiness at the return of Belle. Quiet snorts and neighing could be heard from the stall as he flung his head over her shoulder, showing how dearly he had missed her. Tears fell as she held onto him, not caring about whatever rules she may have just broken or if she was to be caught where she shouldn't be. She smoothed his tangled mane, and hugged him once again.
"I'm so sorry I have come to see you, Phillipe. But theres horrible things happening, and they wouldn't let me. And I couldn't exactly sneak you into my room." She explained. Neither Phillipe nor Belle heard the quiet footsteps edging ever closer to the horses stall...
