Today was not going well. She should have known as soon as her toes had hit the floor that morning, but bad days never started with a realization that they would horrible otherwise she would have crawled back into bed and possibly refused to get out for the rest of the day. Well, that perhaps was a bit dramatic, but Plum was beginning to feel like maybe she should have stayed in bed today. That might have been easier than dealing with being nearly run off her feet.
A good sleep had left the fairy feeling somewhat refreshed until she had gotten to work and then it had been one mishap after another. One moment she was making up a bed for another wounded soldier, and then next she was helping to stitch someone up after they accidentally pulled them out. And there had been the bed pan incident. Really, today was turning into a disaster and Plum really wanted to find a hole to crawl into.
But no, Plum would handle everything with grace and poise, or at least that was what she was aiming for. And that was why, when she bumped into a shelf in the supply room and its entire contents dumped itself on her head she didn’t let out a string of curses like she wanted to. She stood there, clenched her fists and counted to ten silently before unclenching her fists and cursing softly under her breath. This was so not her day.

((sorry I'd posted this in the wrong place!))
It wasn't like Merlin didn't have enough to do, he was being run pretty ragged once he'd finally convinced Arthur to actually let him stay (though 'let' wasn't really the right word, he'd refused to leave), but he knew plenty of other people were even busier, and, given the combination of the skills he'd been taught by Gaius and his magic, he knew the best place for him to lend a helping hand was the hospital.
He was just looking for someone to tell him if there was anything urgent that needed doing when he heard a crash from behind a nearby door, so of course his first instinct was to stop and open it. Initially, he couldn't work out what was wrong, all he could see was Plum standing there, apparently talking to herself, but then he noticed the tilted shelf and the supplies scattered across the floor and realised what had happened.
Plum really wanted to kick something until she couldn’t feel anything anymore. Instead, she lifted one hand to gingerly rub the spot where a particularly sharp corner had hit her head. She wasn’t bleeding, thank the heavens. It would be too ironic for her to deal with if suddenly the healer became the patient. That would really push her over the edge.
The voice behind her was unexpected and she twitched in surprise, then looked to find Merlin watching her. She drew in a breath and then nodded, the hand on her head falling back to her side, almost in defeat. “I’m alright, thank you,” she said, managing a weak smile.
Plum looked curiously at Merlin. She hadn’t seen him around here before. At least she didn’t think she had. She’d sort of been running around like a chicken with its head cut off lately that the people who came through the building didn’t always register. Well, whatever the case may be, Plum would be professional about everything. “Was there something I could help you with?” she asked politely, hoping there was something she could do, instead of stand there in the mess she had inadvertently made.
