With a war raging, there weren't exactly that that many students to teach. Most of them, along with a lot of the faculty, had stayed on the mainland and didn't exactly have time for lessons. The few that had come to the island seemed to think they had better things to do, so attendance was sporadic at best.
In fairness to his students, Loki was hardly ever there either, he had a tendency to disappear for long periods of time and nobody was quite sure where he even went. Still, he was here now, leaning back in his chair with his feet up on the desk, waiting to see if any of his students showed up. The kids were always good for some entertainment, so he may as well see what new drama they had come up with (pun not intended) to make the war pale in comparison to their flamboyant little lives.
Going to class at a time like this just seemed like a silly idea, but sitting around all day with nothing to do but worry was not helping Lottie’s nerves at all. She didn’t sew, she didn’t cook, she didn’t really do any useful hobby, so how was she supposed to distract herself from the war? She had tried doing a bit of clothing designs, trying to incorporate the fashion of her times with those of this new world, but what was the point when she didn’t know if she’d ever get out of this place? Who would ever wear her clothes? Would Henry ever get to see them and be all proud of her?
So that brought her to now, and the silly idea of actually going to a class in the middle of a war. She needed the distraction, and besides, it wasn’t like she would be the only student there, right?
Right?
Sashaying into the room, Lottie stopped just inside the door of the classroom that was empty except for the instructor. Well, hell.
“Am I early? ‘cause I can just go get us some coffee or somethin’ and come on back in a few minutes,” she said.
Loki looked up in surprise when somebody actually walked in, he honestly hadn't been entirely sure anybody would turn up. His was a drama class, after all, and most of the dramatic types were off, well, being dramatic, war gave plenty of opportunities for that.
"Only by about thirty seconds," he shrugged, glancing at his watch "but by all means, go get a coffee if you like. It's not like I've taken time out of my busy schedule so I can be here to teach you today."
Pretending to be annoyed was fun. It was also, usually, more likely to make students do what he wanted, and right now the only target for his entertainment was Lottie, so he was going to try and make her stay
Lottie was taken aback at first, but then she just looked affronted. He expected her to believe that he was a busy man but could still sit around just in case students decided to show up for a silly drama class? If he was that busy he wouldn’t be on this island at all, he’d be off being all godly and winning wars or whatever it was these so-called Gods did. It was just a whole lot of horsepucky if you asked her.
“You don’t look all that busy,” she pointed out, propping her hands on her hips. “If it’s just lil ol’ me here, then why don’t ya just get back to whatever you were so busy at and I’ll just find somethin’ else ta do?”
Loki raised an eyebrow at her, his expression irritated. He was actually pretty amused, her sassiness promised at least a little entertainment, and as long as he could continue to engage her in conversation, he was sure he was going to enjoy this.
"You'd like that, wouldn't you? Lazy students sitting around on your protected little island doing nothing, and as soon as somebody spares the time to continue your education, suddenly it's such a dreadful inconvenience to be in class. If you didn't want to be here why did you bother turning up at all? Surely you have... oh, shopping to do or a suntan to top up, or whatever nonsense you get up to on this island while other people a fighting for you."
He, of course, didn't believe a word he was saying, nor particularly care, but he enjoyed getting people riled up and defensive.
