Belle, who had come to the conclusion that she needed to spend time outside of the library if she was ever to meet someone, decided to traverse to the lake. It was a site indeed, beautiful water, trees everywhere. Serene, that was the word. It looked like something out of a painting.
She smiled happily as she made her way through the last of the trees and came to edge of the lake, and sat down. Pulling out a book (give her some credit, she is out of the library) she cracked it open and dove into the words. Every now and then she would look up to see a fish jump, or hear a toad croak. She was glad she had decided to come to Tintagel Academy. It was going to be a beautiful adventure. Something new and exciting.
As she was nearly halfway through the book, Belle heard the cracking of some twigs. Her head shot up from the book and looked around. It sounded as if it were coming from behind her. Naturally it could have been an animal of some kind just roaming about, but in case it wasn't, Belle called out.
"Hello? Is someone there?" She asked, closing her book.

Jasmine had decided to walk up to the lake. It was always a pretty sight. She loved to just sit there and look out at it. It was also were she went to be alone. While she did sometimes see other people, she normally get time to herself. And the walks up were pretty nice too.
Then, she heard a voice. The choice was hers, she could respond or just walk away. Whoever had spoken would not know the other could have happened. Jasmine opted for talking.
"Yes, someone is here," Jasmine replied. She came up to where the young woman who had asked the question would be able to see her.
Belle really hadn't expected to hear anyone answer back, and jumped slightly at the voice. It was a girl, who couldn't be much younger than Belle. She was glad it wasn't some large creature, but at the same time, it would have been interesting for it to be one.
"Oh! Hello. I wasn't really expecting to see anyone down here. But company is always nice." Belle smiled. She stood up, brushing the loose grass off her jeans, and walked over to the girl. "I'm Belle." She offered holding out her hand.
Belle was, beyond everything, polite. Everyone she met, she was always polite and kind. The only time that deterred was when the person in question was rude or stand offish. She didn't get that kind of vibe from this girl. She hoped she was right.
Belle was being nicer than Jasmine had expeced she'd be. It was always good to meet someone so nice. Jasmine shook Belle's offered hand.
"I wasn't really expecting to meet anyone either. I'm Jasmine," she smiled, "Isn't it nice here?" A simple question, but Jasmine often asked it when she met someone at the lake. The answer was almost always a simple yes, but she just loved to hear it.
"Oh it's lovely here. Like something right out of a picture, or a painting. It's almost too lovely...like you can't be sure if it's real or not..." Belle commented dreamily. The lake was nearly intoxicating with it's water as still as glass, beautiful trees, thick green grass.
Belle smiled and came back to reality."So... are you new here?" She asked curiously. Belle herself hadn't been there very long. For all she knew Jasmine could've been there for a year or longer.
Jasmine smiled. That answer was so much better than she had expected. It was hard to expect much when most people did the same thing. "I"m fairly sure it's real. I've been here a couple of times," she said.
Jasmine shook her head. "I haven't been here as long as most, but I wouldn't say I'm new," she said. That was probably a longer answer than Belle expected.
"I've only been here a week or two. So I guess I'm not exactly new anymore, either. It's nice to meet you though." She smiled. "So what brings you to the lake today?"
Belle watched as a crane flew out of the lake. It was so lovely there. Coming through the portal to Tintagel Academy was one of the best decisions she had made. Even though she missed her father, she knew that he would be happy for her. And besides, it's not like she wasn't going back one day... right? What could possibly happen in a place like this?
"I come here when I want to get away from the normal school things," Jasmine said, "But I guess I'm here now so I can see it one last time. I'm going to the island soon."
Now it had brought her to thinking of the war again. She had come here so she could forget about the war for a few minutes, but it just came back up. There was no where she could escape from it. Or no where other than the island.
Belle was confused. There was an island? And why was Jasmine going to it? She smiled sheepishly. "I'm sorry, I'm afraid I didn't know there was an island...why are you going to it if I may ask? It just seems odd to go to an island after you've only just started classes.." Belle went on. She was sure Jasmine had her reasons, and she didn't want to pry...but Belle was so curious.
Belle kicked a pebble into the lake, watching as the ripples fanned out until they slowly ceased. She wasn't nosy, just curious. She was curious about everyhting to be honest. Everything she saw, she wanted to know about, how it worked, what it did. It was just in her nature.
Jasmine let out a small sigh. "The island is where I will be going to be safe from the war. I don't think I will learn well in the middle of a warzone. Why don't you know about it?" she asked. She had assumed that everyone knew about the war and the island. Well, she was obviously wrong. Information must not get to everyone because there are so many different people.
Jasmine watched the little ripples. The lake was always so peaceful. If only it could stay that way during the war. She didn't wat anyone to mess with it. Especially not those awful soldiers.
