Personality: Jörmungandr takes after his father in terms of personality; he is sharp of tongue, bitingly sarcastic, and sly as the devil. Jor always has the faint glitter of mischief in his eyes, regardless of the situation, and he never seems to take anything seriously. But behind this laid-back demeanor, he is constantly plotting, devising ways to toy with those around him. He is often called mean-spirited and cruel, but he merely brushes these accusations off. He really doesn't mind the fact that others view him as "evil", as he has, to some extent, accepted his terrible destiny. Because of this acceptance, he cares little about the feelings of others or the consequences of his own actions, preferring to place his own amusement above the welfare of others. When he isn't tormenting others, he can be found gaming, and finds great enjoyment in video games.
It is rare for Jor to ever speak his mind openly, as he prefers to befuddle even his allies. He is quite talkative, but most of his advice is intended to cause harm or befuddle those who naively seek his counsel. However, on rare occasions, he will speak the truth, if only to test those who ask his opinion. The few individuals who can tell when he is being truthful earn his approval, and he will readily tell them the truth much more frequently.
When someone does get close enough to call Jor an acquaintance, a rare occurence indeed, he is fiercely loyal and extremely protective. He will use his intellect to aide those close to him, and will even occasionally worry about them. He still acts the same, playing tricks and shooting sarcastic comments right and left, but his tone is warmer to the people he gives his trust to.
Appearance: Jor is a very tall young man, towering over even his older brother. Being stretched around the world can do that to you. He likes to keep a more youthful appearance, if only to fool people into trusting him. He keeps his brown hair somewhat long so that it hangs in front of his hazel eyes. With his boyish face and his teen hair style, he has crafted a rather attractive boyish appearance for himself, preferring a lean and lanky look to an overly muscular one. He is still incredibly strong, though, and has a good deal of muscle.
As he spent much of his time in the darkness of the deep sea, Jor is fond of darker colors. He usually clothes himself in dark earthy tones, generally wearing brown, green or blue jersey shirts, generally pertaining to some video game. Occasionally, when he is in a particularly good mood, Jor will wear a lighter color, usually in the form of a scarlet red shirt. He is always seen in faded blue jeans that fit rather snugly. Whenever he can, Jor likes to wear a dark hoodie, hiding his eyes in the shadow of his hood. He completes his somewhat geeky attire with a pair of worn black Converse.
Before his arrival at Tintagel, Jor took the form of a great sea serpent, large enough to wrap around the world and grasp his tail in his mouth. Even in human form, he keeps the attitude of a snake about him. Jor almost always has a smirk on his handsome face, an almost predatory expression that can unnerve the less brave. He often eyes people as if they are prey, and has a habit of licking his lips that is reminiscent of a snake tasting the air. As a tribute to his other form, and as a warning to those who try to mess with him, Jor has a tattoo of a serpent that wraps around his right arm.
History: Jörmungandr is the middle child of the jotunn Angrboða and the god Loki, born after Fenrir and before Hel. At his birth, it was foretold that he would rise from the ocean, beginning Ragnarok, and poison the sky. He would fight the mighty Thor and eventually kill him through his poison. This prophecy, and the others concerning his other siblings, caught the attention of the gods, and he was brought before Odin. Jor was tossed into the sea surrounding Midgard. Lost in the depths of the ocean and forced to fend for himself, he grew larger and larger, until he was able to wrap his body around the earth and grasp his own tail in his mouth. Due to this feat, he was dubbed the Midgard or World Serpent.
The first time he encountered his mortal enemy, Thor, Jörmungandr was placed under an illusion to make him appear in the form of a giant cat by the giant king, Útgarða-Loki. The giant king tasked the thunder god to lift the cat in a test of strength, knowing full well that even the god would have difficulty lifting such a massive creature as Jor. However, the god was able to raise one of the illusion-cat's feet from the ground, surprising both Jor and Útgarða-Loki.
Jörmungandr next met Thor when the god decided to catch and kill the great serpent. The thunder god rowed far out to sea, deep into Jor's domain, and used an ox head as bait. Jor took the bait, and Thor pulled his head above the water, intent on killing him. However, Hymir, the giant who had helped Thor sail out under the impression that they were merely fishing, feared the serpent's wrath and cut the line that trapped Jor, freeing him and allowing him to escape. Since then, Jor has felt a hesitant trust around the giant.
Some time later, Jor was allowed to release his grip without the world ending, and was brought to Tintagel. He knows not how he arrived here, or by what forces, but he cares not. He is merely pleased to be able to explore and toy with something other than the fish.
Other: Jor has an odd habit of hissing when he's mad or annoyed. He also has an obsession with anything serpentine.
TELLtheTALE
Sample Post: The mortal world certainly was interesting, Jormungandr decided. He stood silently in the shadows, leaning his weight against the pillar and observing the crowd as they walked by. He had only been here for a few days, and already he was having the time of his life. True, he was having a hell of a time learning how to coordinate himself in his new form, but this was a hell of a lot better than just slithering along blindly at the bottom of the ocean. Humans were a lot more fun to mess with than fish. Humans reacted when he teased them. A sly smirk twisted up the corners of his lips as he recalled the last human he had "played" with. She had been quite vocal in her rebuttal to his insinuations to her character.
Jor's eyes flashed playfully as he scanned the crowd, his tongue flicking out to whet his lips as he searched for his next target. He normally wasn't so eager to start drama right after a successful teasing, but he was in an unnaturally good mood, and he was feeling extremely playful. He found a worthy target across the courtyard, his vision tunneling on a young blonde girl. Jor's smirk spread into a feral grin as he pushed off the wall, walking fluidly through the crowd to where she stood with her friends. With his hands stuffed in his jacket pockets and his hood up, he looked like an ordinary high school student making his way to class. The girl noticed him approaching from afar, raising her startling blue eyes to watch him as he walked leisurely toward them. He raised his gaze to meet hers, and the girl shivered involuntarily, stepping back and away from the predator that approached.
He was almost within speaking distance when a flicker of a presence tipped off his sixth sense. Stopping abruptly, he cocked his head to the side, trying to pinpoint the strange sensation. Years without sight had led to Jor being forced to rely on this vague sixth sense to "see" in the murky depths. Now, this sense told him that something powerful was watching, and was ready to attack if he did anything dangerous.
Hissing angrily, he narrowed his eyes, casting a glance around the area in a vain attempt to see the owner of the presence. As he suspected, he could see no one, but he knew that they were there. Cursing under his breath, Jor turned and stalked off, furious that his fun had been interrupted. He strode back in the direction of the academy, hoping that he would find something just as much fun there to entertain him.
