Personality: Akinyi is what one might call a ‘doer.’ Sure, she’ll think something through. For about a minute. But she’d rather be out there getting something done than sitting around waiting for something to happen. She knows how to hunt, and she likes the thrill of the chase as well as the fight itself. She only kills animals for food, but she has no sentimental attachment to any creature. She is very adventurous and playful, and her secret desire is to change the world. This is not necessarily because it needs fixing, but more to have her name go down in history. If something goes wrong for her, she tends to get upset for a short time and then bounce back. She’s too upbeat to let anything keep her down for long.
Appearance: Small and slim, fast and graceful. Describing Akinyi can hardly be limited to what she looks like standing still, since most any time someone sees her she’s in motion. Her dark hair is continually bouncing, her dark brown eyes continually roaming, and she herself is a blur of caramel skin as she whips into her next adventure. She arrived at Tintagel in her home clothes, which includes a rough tunic and pants, all belted up with a rough knife thrust into the sash. Once she gets settled, though, she’ll be back into the most comfortable things she can find, like t-shirts and sweats. She’s not really fond of shoes, but if they are a requirement then some comfortable sandals will suffice. Her home location is a lot warmer than the new school, though, so she’s going to have to get used to wearing jackets and maybe even socks or just perpetually look cold.
History: Seven fairies, seven gifts. Beauty, wit, grace, dance, music, and courage. The sixth fairy had gotten some talking-to for giving that sort of gift to a princess, but the old lady had simply shrugged and told everyone that it “might be useful.” Then, of course, there were the final gifts: the wicked fairy, the unexpected curse, and the youngest fairy and her gift of salvation. And then what? Then the king and queen outlawed spindles with a sharp end and sent their precious daughter to live in hiding, under the care of some dear old friends out in the wilderness.
So Akinyi never knew about her past, not even about the blessings or the curse. All she knew was that she happened to be good at just about everything she tried. Except cooking. Somehow she had the ability to burn water. As her way of helping out around the house, she chose instead to take up hunting. There were a lot of dangerous creatures out there, but she was smart enough to stay out of the way of the bad ones and graceful enough to easily catch her prey. She carried her bow with her everywhere.
She was following the trail of a wild dog when she ran across a wrinkled old woman, who she promptly ran to help. In thanks for her gift of water and a small meal, the woman kissed Akinyi on the forehead. The girl blinked a few times and found herself in a strange country, very different from the one she had just come from. Now she has to find a way home, before her mother starts to worry.
Other: If I keep this up much longer no one will believe that I’m not choosing Hunger Games stars on purpose. Also, Bunny gets to see Penny make a second character, so apparently dreams do come true.
TELLtheTALE
Sample Post:
The sparkles were dissipating from her vision, and Akinyi had to blink a few times as she got used to the lighting. She rose from her crouch and looked around at the completely unfamiliar surroundings. There was a field of grass, soft against her feet, and a pool of water in front of her. Everywhere else was full of trees.
“H-hello?” she called out, nervously. Then she cleared her throat. She wasn’t scared of this place. She just had to determine where she was. “My name is Akinyi Eniola. What is this place? Someone tell me, right now!”
For emphasis she placed a hand on her knife and stamped her foot on the last word. She looked around to see who had heard her, but there was no one around. Frowning, she walked down to the water to refill her canteen. She would search this entire forest until she discovered where she was and how she was going to get home.
Her mother would be missing her.
