did someone say
DELLA RACHEL MILLER?
DELLA RACHEL MILLER?
what the devil
IS GOING ON HERE?
IS GOING ON HERE?
name: Della Rachel Miller
nicknames: None, really. She’s never had a nickname she liked.
gender: Female
age: Nearly eighteen
sexuality: Heterosexual. Seriously, she can’t imagine herself with a girl, nor does she want to.
face: Danielle Panabaker
fairytale: Rumpelstiltskin
year: Final year of high school
when i rule the world
I'LL PLANT FLOWERS!
I'LL PLANT FLOWERS!
personality: Della is the sort of person who is surprisingly guarded, considering how many friends she actually has. See, up until about two years ago, she didn’t really do the friends thing. She sort of still has a bit of a Me vs. The World mindset, and if she has even the slightest inclination that you shouldn’t be trusted (and this doesn’t take a lot), she’ll be on the defensive. She won’t necessarily be mean, or anything, but she’ll be keeping a sharp eye on you.
But once you do gain her trust? You can’t ask for a more loyal friend. Truth is, underneath the girl who tries so damn hard to be tough, she’s really the sort of person who clearly cares the most. She will literally fight to the death for you, and truthfully doesn’t care if she’s the one who winds up dying so long as you’re okay. She has the world’s most awful inferiority complex, honestly, that contributes to this. There’s always a part of her that has to wonder why? Why are there people who care so much about me when I’m nothing? She’s very emotional, which seems to be her greatest flaw as well as her greatest strength, since it causes so many unnecessary problems for her, but it’s also where her strong heart comes from.
You would think someone like her would be a total stiff, but there’s a very witty, sarcastic young woman who clearly has a sense of fun to cover up the insecure parts most of the time. Whether it’s about the latest amazing book she’s read (she has a thing for 18th century literature) or even just one of your problems, she’s actually a pretty good conversationalist.
When it comes to her caution when it comes to her social life, nothing brings up a red flag for her more than romance. She’s spent most of her life thinking that love hasn’t been worth it, and her first try in it hasn’t exactly changed her mind…but then she sees her “brother”, Westley, and his relationship with his fiancée Buttercup, and it makes her wonder…
Della’s greatest fear is being useless, basically. She’s seen the damsels in distress that surround her at Avalon and the last thing she wants to be is that. She wants to be able to fend for herself, perhaps because deep down she’s not sure if she can trust anyone, and the idea of feeling helpless and relying entirely on another person scares the living daylights out of her. She wants to be stronger, smarter…basically herself 2.0, able to do anything without being crippled by her weaknesses…which might be what’s about to get her into a major mess…
appearance: While Della doesn’t really draw too much attention or importance to it, she’s actually a very pretty girl, with peaches and cream skin and auburn hair that will look like fiery red hair or light brown depending on the light, and coffee brown eyes that seem to reflect her every emotion. She’s fairly short at 5’4 (which she has never been too happy about) and you definitely can’t call her fat, but she’s not quite a stick either. She tends to dress in thrift store items that don’t look horrifically tattered (with a budget like hers, you kind of need those thrift stores), and has been known to get creative on special occasions and actually managing to look presentable.
history: I realize that it’s rather pathetic to blame one’s childhood on your shortcomings, but seriously, when it comes to Della’s trust issues, you don’t need to look much further than her second birthday, when her mother left her madly in love father and, as far as Della knows, never said why. She doesn’t know that Maryanne Schultz actually suffered from severe depression and was scared that she would do something she regretted in front of her, or that she may have some tendencies of her own. All she knows is that it completely crushed her father, and not to mention the new economic strain that was on them. It wasn’t like the Millers were rich before, but seeing as her dad’s only skill was writing and that wasn’t bringing that much money in, things were becoming extremely difficult. It didn’t help that Della was constantly hearing smug rich girls call him a bum and made fun of her for her less than perfect clothes. Needless to say, this got Della angry (mostly insulting her dad, truth be told), and she had a habit of smacking her adversaries with whatever book she was carrying (she learned how to read in a manner similar to Scout in To Kill a Mockingbird rather quickly). This, obviously, wasn’t the best way to start making oneself social, and while Della got over the whole “violence a la literature” after some time, she basically got used to the idea that she didn’t want friends.
Still, things were getting harder and harder as she got older, even as she tried to help her dad make ends meet. They needed a miracle, or a very good lie or they were getting evicted. So when she got the oddest envelope from her guidance counselor, telling her she had somehow gotten a scholarship to Tintagel…she was a wee bit surprised. Even more surprising was the fact that she wound up accepting it, when usually she’d probably be waiting for the cameramen to pop up and scream, “Gotcha!” or for some sort of catch to come up. Something told her that this was something she could trust, for some reason. Around the same time, their landlord was about to tell them that this was the very last straw, and she was compelled to do yet another thing she wouldn’t do under most circumstances…or really, anything, really. She figured she’d never claim any magical qualities unless she were on LSD, seeing as magic didn’t exist right? Yet she blurted it out; “I can spin straw into gold, I had been saving this for an emergency, just please don’t evict my dad and I’ll be able to pay you, I promise.”
Needless to say, this led to quite a bit of stress when she first arrived at the school that would change her life. While she still hasn’t found a way to actually, you know, spin for gold, she’s done a few more impossible things, from training for a war in Wonderland, to having her mind manipulated several times, to actually making friends for the first time…to even daring to fall in love. It’s been a hell of an experience, one that she’s still not sure if she loves more than she hates or vice versa, but right now, after breaking up with Dodge and realizing how powerless she felt against him, she wants to do anything in her power to fight that. Which led her to making a wish to be anything but the damsel in distress she was…and thus begins her next problem.
other: Basically, she’s about to lose her emotions right in front of the people who care the most about her soon and become a mega fighting machine. Business as usual.
sample post: Once upon a time, Della was being chased by the boys (as usual) and then she got cursed (again)…you know, her life is beginning to display a pattern.
