It was sort of weird, wasn’t it? Della never used to go to any of these school functions, and now here she was, actually setting aside her precious budget for this surprisingly gorgeous dress for a discount/thrift store buy, and actually going even if she was very much without a date. This alone was a testament to how she had changed in the past couple of years, wasn’t it? Pressing her red painted lips together as she entered, she couldn’t help but laugh. As much as she was sure that certain people would disapprove greatly, this was right up her alley. Please, as if she didn’t see thousands of casino based movies while her dad was trying to figure out what made movies work and flop. She had to admit though, she wished that she could actually get some real money out of this…the urge to actually give that a shot was strong in her, but there was fortunately a logical side of her that reminded her that she didn’t exactly have much that she could afford to lose. So even with the knowledge that people were definitely going to be gambling real money, she decided to just keep it to the pretend games. She was pretty damn good at Blackjack, after all, and at least she could get pride points out of it…as much as you could from playing Monopoly, anyway…
Okay, so many the whole fake gambling thing would be kind of lame unless she had some company. Same with the whole dancing with herself thing, sorry Billy Idol. Come to think of it, why hadn’t she gotten in touch with people to show up to this thing with. It would make this seem a little less pathetic…I mean, it wasn’t like she needed a date, per say. And by this point she was over her first boyfriend, thank God. It just seemed kind of sad for her to be essentially alone here. All of those activities would be far better and look a little less…lame if she had someone around with her.
Well, she supposed it wouldn’t be too hard to find a friend of hers around here…sure, Wes and Buttercup were no doubt off on their own somewhere, and let it not be her to interrupt that. Well, not all of her friends were in madly in love or even dating anyone, so she was sure to find someone as she scanned the area, unable to stop herself from laughing at some of the antics going on. Some people had definitely watched a few too many James Bond and Charlie’s Angels…with admittedly included herself, but that was hardly the point.
While she was amusing herself with watching some of the other attendees being crazy, she had no idea that someone she knew, someone who wasn’t dating anyone, but was, little did she know, madly in love indeed. And the fact she was just staring off into the distance, looking better than she ever had, was probably not helpful.
