Door had been around for a longer time than some (shorter than others) but she was moving into a new room, which sort of made her feel like the new kid all over again. What if these two had been friends or roommates prior? Egeria and Katherine. Here's hoping.
She brunette knocked on the dormroom door (she was knocking on her own door?) before pushing it open and entering. It looked pretty basic, sets of furniture and beds. Although there were certain attributes that made a part of the bedroom "claimed" (sheets on the bed or photos up), it didn't seem to have that whole I-live-here look. But Door wasn't seeing anyone.
Kevin had been spending most of her time in her dorm room, putting back up all of her posters and such. Her hair was pulled back into a long ponytail and she wore her favorite pair of khaki shorts and white top - making her look very much like an explorer - but she had kicked her shoes off under her bed.
With her posters up and her things put away properly, Kevin sat back down in the center of her bed - with it's rainbow sheets and comforter - and pulled the bundle of feathers that had been roosting in the middle of it toward her. No bigger than the palm of her hand, the tiny, baby Snipe was her pride and joy. Just because it had stated no pets in the rules didn't mean she couldn't sneak this little one in. A gentle hand stroked its feathers and the bird gave a muffled hoot before settling down in the space between her crossed legs. Normally, her golden retriever Winston would be in her care, but she had put him into the care of others for the time being.
The knock startled her and she didn't want to move - she didn't want to wake up her baby snipe - so Kevin was relieved when the girl showed herself in. She guessed this was Door, the other one who had yet to move in. Egeria, Kevin had not met, but had heard about enough to tell her apart.
"Hi. I'm Kevin. Welcome home." She gave a smile to the girl.
Egeria did much care for doors it would seem. It was hardly often that she actually exited or entered the way most people thought proper. There whole existence and purpose left her feeling mildly perplexed, let alone the odd tradition these humans had developed of knocking on the large hinged slab of hard material. It was a odd coincidence, Egeria thought, to be pondering this just as you come to find that one one of your new roommates is, in fact, named 'Door.' She couldn't help, but wonder if this would foreshadow their relationship, misunderstanding and mild irritation, but Egeria wasn't one to judge such things simply on a name. That was not to mention the fat that she had floated about learning all that she could about these people she would be spending time with. The one called Door and the other...Kevin.
Although Echo prides herself on her educated guesses being quite accurate, she was...intrigued to find that this named belong to a female. She was sure that the human race had almost certainly dubbed this to be a male name. This was before she came to realize that 'Kevin' was simply a nick name for 'Katherine.' This made a lot more sense. She was an explorer, an animal lover, bright, happy, not exactly a person of great interest to Egeria, or one to really need her help. This Door on the other hand could be wilding fascinating to study. What with her, shall we call it, 'ability' that allowed her to...open things, open up people even. This being one of Egeria's own specialties.
Relating back to her distaste for what this world would call a normal way to enter a room, instead of using the door, Egeria willed the wooden frame of the window to lift so that a good inch was accessible from the outside. She then burst into a flurry of pink flower petals, and was carried up to and through the crack in the window on a self generated wind. Once every bit of her her was inside the petals quickly aced themselves back together to create Egeria's feminine disguise. She scanned the room, addressing each girl with a gentle smile and a slight nod. Living in a dorm might prove more difficult than she thought, well, without certain natural touches. Egeria was used to sleeping in a tree.
Okay. Kevin. Not Katherine. "I'm Door. Nice to meet ya." Door kept her tone hushed since Kevin seemed to be focusing on a little...was that a bird? It had feathers. That liked meant bird. Door was going with bird. So the girl seemed to be focusing on a sleeping bird and Door didn't want to wake the little thing up - even if she didn't like those little creatures very much.
"What sort of bird is that?" Conversation. She could do that. The girl was clearly friendly - what sort of person would have rainbow sheets if she wasn't a very friendly type? And she extended a welcome the moment Door entered. She was surely sweet and that meant that she would likely not make fun of Door's tendency towards being quiet.
Before Door could get too involved with Kevin, Egeria (or what should could only assume was Egeria) entered. If Door was sort of taken back by Kevin's seeming energy and sugary sweetness, than the sudden appearance of the Egeria was just...magnificent. She entered via window and wind and seemed to be constructed out of flower petals. Well, the petals seemed to sort of create the girl rather than actually make her. It was still the best entrance Door had seen.
"You're Egeria, then?" Door asked, really more for a lack of something to say rather than clarification.
Kevin looked down at the bird in her lap and stroked it's head gently with her fingers. The rainbow colors of its feathers were just as vibrant as Kevin's bed. "This is a Snipe. Her name is Imzadi."
She looked up as the second girl entered via . . . petals? Well, it was Tintagel. Magic was nothing new, really. After all, she,'d spent last summer on an island with dinosaurs. Nothing really surprised her anymore.
"Hi, Egeria - at least, I'm assuming. I'm Kevin. This is Imzadi." She gestured to the little bird in her lap as she scooped it up in the palms of her hands. It gave another muffled hoot in protest at the movement as she shifted on the bed, settling the bird in the blankets beside her.
Her name. They both said it almost immediately upon her arrival. Oh how could she have not foreseen this? Surely they had been notified of her name just as their names had been indicated to her. It should not be a problem really, its just, that it was so out of normalcy for her. Back home it was almost considered rude to ask for someone's name, let alone speak it. It was just something everyone knew, an unspoken rule. They seemed just a trivial thing, label that no one really needed. In this world, however, name calling seemed like such a necessity. This much she hadn't had too much of a time adjusting to. Learning and calling an individuals name was almost impossibly easy, allowing others to know her own was not quite as simple.
She was raised to learn things, to give knowledge, things personal to her were to remain so, in fact, she was not expected to have more than a name personal to her. She was not created to make, hold, or break bonds with herself and others. This was mainly the reason she was so good at what she does. She's not connected, always on the outside looking in on this culture, so she may see things for what they are and create solutions. This all giving her reason to create the tinniest of frowns upon her lips.
She quickly busied herself with evaluating the situation and was easily distracted from her mild bought of distain. She made no effort confirm or deny their assumptions on her name, but instead simply stated, of this, I am aware dear Katherine. Lady Door. she addressed the other girl calmly before bringing her eyes to focus on the bird on Kevin's lap. Birds were something Egeria was very comfortable with, being that so many would nest in her home. She smiled at the little sleeping thing, gracefully closed the gap between them and gave it a small stroke. Snipes are very intelligent birds she commented fondly.

So this was the final member of their little trio. She seemed interesting enough (complete with a fabulous entrance) and she seemed to have at least as much information about them as they did about her. She also seemed to be frowning just a bit. The tiniest bit. Hmm.
Before Door could contemplate Egeria's expression, her own shifted. Ug. Lady Door. She hated that particular bit. Door smiled at the...girl?...who appeared from flowers and smiled, shaking her hand slightly from side to side. "Door is all we need there. The lady thing is..." Door looked over towards Kevin and the snipe for a moment before turning back towards Egeria. "Ceremonial."
Oh, they both liked the bird. Hopefully Door wouldn't find any of the rats that she was accustomed to in her excursions outside. Birds and rats tended not to get along.
Door set her bag down on an empty bed and set the box in her arms down beside it. She turned towards the girls again, smiling. She was never good at small talk. Throw someone having a mental crisis at Door and, for the most part, she could handle it with effortless ease but ask her to get to know people in a sort of casual way and she would sit there and bumble. "I've never heard of snipes before. But smart is always a plus..."
Kevin blinked at the girl, Egeria, for a moment. She knew of Snipes? Not many did. Curious. She smiled though as she stroked the bird. "Yes, they are very smart. This one is just a few weeks old - I hope neither of you object to me having her here. I'll put her back into the wild before she grows too large." She offered with a half smile.
Her lips twisted as Door seemed to show some hatred to her title. It reminded Kevin how grateful she was that she didn't have a title such as Lady or Princess. "Call me Kevin, please. I prefer it over Katherine when I'm not a scientific gathering - which I avoid like the plague except when it comes to my birds." She smiled fondly at Imzadi.
"I don't expect many have heard of them. I discovered them just a few years ago and they're quite rare, but I'm trying to protect them."
Curious. Niether of these girls seemed to have a fondness for how they should traditionally be called. Lady Door, in fact, reacted similarly to Egeria when her name was spoken, though the nymph suspected for different reasons. Miss Door didn't like her title, Egeria had no issue with her name, just the fact of sharing it. Katherine, on the other hand, had a much simpler and brighter reaction, she corrected Egeria on how she would rather be called, but with no real distain other then a mild indication of dislike toward scientific gatherings. She was a sweet girl, and very fond of her birds. No, Egeria certainly would not mind having the Snipe among their company. She looked down upon the bird fondly even now, until all conversation had stalled.
Rare indeed she spoke with a musical tone to her whimsical voice as she moved a bit closer to who Egeria had named the most fascinating of the inhabitance in the room, Lady Door. There was a distinct...something about her, something that would lead the willowy brunette to believe that she was similar to her in one other way besides their mutual ability to break through the outward shell people displayed. She was not born into this world, this universe. Egeria's striking blue eyes glittered with interest as she looked her over, the shadow of a smile playing on her lips.
It went many years, But at last came a knock, And I thought of the door With no lock to lock...
She recited softly, the first stanza of a poem written by Robert Frost. She watched Door closely, studying her eyes with great intensity. What worlds beyond this one those eyes have seen she commented, perhaps with her tone more matter-of-fact than most would expect.

"Well, the snipes are clearly very beautiful." Door smiled, sort of unsure how to comment.
As Egeria moved to Door and started reciting, a small, true smile turned on Door's lips. The Lockless Door. Her father used to recite that to her when she was a child. She was practically transported to that time in her life, of being safe and warm and surrounded by loved one.
She hadn't even thought of that poem since her father died.
She stared at the girl in front of her, this girl that was clearly something more than she seemed. This Egeria was a lot like her, in some way. Door couldn't read her, quite the opposite actually (she seemed very guarded with whatever emotions or thoughts she might be having) but there was something very clearly connective about the two of them. Something similar.
"I don't think that I'm the only one around here who's seen worlds beyond."
