First lesson with his small magic class and meeting all the students was going to be tough.
But Harry was good with tough, he had dealt with this before. He had enough idea to go on, what these kids were about, what they wanted. Magic was a way of life for all of them, whether they dabbled, or didn't understand their potential.
Either way, he was going to help them progress. It was just job to teach them. This was going to be very interesting.
He had set on the timetable for all of the students he was having, regardless of age to come to the biggest room in the Knapp building so he could accomadate them.
He had put in the notice that if they were over ten minutes late should go away and come back for the afternoon session he was keeping for the next lot.
If they were late, so be it. They'd have to learn to be in time. In a real situation, you don't get babied because the person that you could of saved died before you could get there.
He was dressed in his famous black duster, his white amulet around his neck and his staff learning against the front desk, He had moved all the chairs, he had set up the room so that even if it was wrecked the summoning circle in the middle of the room would remember the room's exact position and fix it at Harry's command.
With that in mind, all he had left to do was wait, and so he did, looking rather ominous at the end of the large room.
Plum didn’t feel so horrible today. She had the sniffles and she might have had a fever, she couldn’t tell. It was so rare that she got sick that she didn’t always know or understand the symptoms. But she did know that she was feeling better which could possibly mean that her magic was sorting itself out. And that would be lovely. Really lovely. As much as she hated admitting it, Plum relied very much on her magic and she was quite impatient without it.
The fairy had decided that it was about time she took a magic class. She was a fairy and it seemed like a natural choice for her. So she’d enrolled in a magic class. And here she was, standing outside the classroom steeling herself to go in. She was a bit nervous. Any other class she wouldn’t have been nervous, but magic was different. It was so much more personal. But it didn’t matter. She was the ruler of Kingdom of Sweets, basically the same rank as a queen. And she was a fairy. She had nothing to worry about. Nothing at all.
Oh, except for the part where she was currently terrified of the current state of her magic. Right…nothing to worry about.
Taking a deep breath and with new resolve Plum entered the room, her head held high. She stopped as soon as she had stepped into the room, looking at the strange arrangement of chairs. Then she looked up at the teacher. He was a bit ominous looking really, but Plum was not going to let that get the better of her. She shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. So she stepped further into the room and curtseyed politely to the teacher. “I’m Plum,” she announced. “Though I’m sure the attendance list says Anika, but I prefer to go by Plum,” she informed him politely. Then she gestured to the chairs. “May I sit?”
Thank whoever was listening for class. Honestly, the way Rene's life had been going since she got back, you'd think absolutely nothing normal was going on. Actually, if she paused to think about it, Rene would probably realize that not normal was the normal for this school and this group of people. But really, she just wanted to get to class and get to studying.
Admittedly, she'd spent some time to read ahead in the books. Mostly because she'd had a bit of spare time while working in Kazul's library and the dragon had insisted that Rene brush up on her magical education. Then there had been the whole encountering various people under various spells since her arrival, and, well, Rene felt nearly stuffed to the brim with magical knowledge. She only wished that she had the talent to actually do anything with it. But she was no Merlin.
Regardless, the girl showed up early to class, and couldn't help but be a little surprised at seeing a brand new teacher. One that looked... decidedly unmagical. most of the magical teachers hadn't made much of an impression, not since Professor Falcon at any rate. So to have someone like that standing there.
Rene studied him closely, obviously taking a close look and weighing him in her mind. She nodded slowly and looked about for a seat, or at least a place to stand. Within moments, she'd have a notepad and pen out, ready to take notes and learn whatever it was that this strange, oddly handsome, man had to teach them.

Two people?
Ooh Harry this is going to be a fun day. Harry raised his eyes at both of them, "No notes today ladies." He said, and stepped forward, "This is a practical lesson." He gave a bit of a smile. "Thank you for you're name Plum, I'll write that down so I don't forget, what magical ability do you believe you have?" he asked
He did, then looked over at Cimorene as he stepped forward. Business like, proud. She was going to be interesting he was sure.
"Name please and magical ability, if you believe you have some and why...I need to know what levels your at before we start."
Considering there were only two of them it felt like a good idea to start this meeting with a hand shake with the pair. If we're going to start with being friends with these kids better start giving them the respect they deserve as students of magic.
He gave a look at both girls and tried to measure them on power before the spoke, looks like he had two quite powerful magic users, if they were aware of it or not. Though Anika did seem a little out of sorts. As a wizard he could open his third eye...but that was dangerous stuff.
"Ooh, and ladies please refrain from staring me right in the eye. Wizards of my type tend to do what's called a soul gaze in that way...and the stronger you are, the easy it is to pierce their soul...the downside of it for the wizard is you will let them see inside yours and sometimes that don't go down go well if you want to keep a secret."
He stepped away from them before they could really try out this soul gaze experience. "Are you both ready?"

The door flew open and Merlin came running in, just about skidding to a halt before he fell over.
"I'm not la-" he started, looking around with chagrin and realising that he was, indeed, late, and quickly ammended his question "Too late, am I? I'm sorry, it's just that I was doing some studying and then there was Arthur's laundry and of course the prat had to go and decide that today was the day he needed his boots cleaned, and I suppose I should have already done them but there was this really interesting book and I would have made it on time but Archimedes needed feeding and he is one grumpy owl without food and-" he stopped himself again, straightening up and brushing out his clothes.
A new teacher, a new teacher for his favourite subject of all time, and he was already making a fool of himself.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm making excuses, I should have been here, it won't happen again."
“I’m a fairy, Sir,” she told him. “I have something I’ve categorized as wish magic. Someone wishes for something, I wave my wand, and poof. It comes true.” That was the simple version. She could have gotten into the more complicate version with all the rules and what she could and couldn’t do, but they would be here for a while if she went into the specifics. And besides, she wasn’t the only one in class. There was another girl and if wouldn’t be fair to her.
Plum did think it odd that they were having a practical lesson. It was the very first class. She had thought it would be something more along the lines of an introduction to the class. But it was a good thing she always had her wand on her person. It was honestly the most effective way to grant wishes.
The teacher was certainly odd. She could look into his soul and he could look into hers with direct eye contact. That seemed very odd, but she would respect his request because she was very polite in that regard.
“I should warn you, Sir,” she began, but never finished for at that moment the door swung open very suddenly and a boy ran in. Plum turned to watch. He really wasn’t that late. She would have let him stay if she were the teacher. Speaking of, she turned to look back at this new magic teacher to catch his reaction.

Why was Door always late? She could probably conjure a door from her closet to the classroom but did she do that? No. She walked around like a dummy. And she almost always left her place too late and she never quite got to a place where she should have been within the usually allotted time. It was made all the more embarrassing by the fact that she had met the professor the other day and sort of established a rapport with him. And now she was late.
Door tried her best to enter quietly but it would seem that she wasn't the only one who was late. She had never had the pleasure of meeting Merlin before but she knew of him. The rest of the students she knew though - Cimorene from Book Club and Plum. Groovy.
Door turned towards Mr. Dresden and grimaced. "Really sorry, sir. Won't happen again." She immediately shrunk away and took a seat next to Plum.

Well, Rene had seen teacher who were quite casual like this before. In fact, Harry reminded Rene of an old music professor, with his loose demeanor and all. She half expected him to start flirting with the females in the classroom. Instead, he started talking and introducing himself in a strangely decisive manner. Rene couldn't immediately figure him out, and this bothered her more than she cared to admit.
"Cimorene, of Linder--of the Mountains of Mist," might as well be fully honest. It had been years since she'd been in the lands of her birth. "Moderate magical level. I know a lot, but I don't have the talent of--"
Rene was about to say "some people" when the person she was nearly always talking about whenever she said that phrase burst through the door. Merlin's words tripped over themselves, and Rene hid a grin behind her hand. The moment he stopped, she'd be ready to wave him over and offer him a seat. Might as well let him know he had some support. Besides, he clearly wasn't the only late student, since a girl that Rene recognized from Book Club came in shortly after. Door; that was her name. Door.
"It's the first day," she piped up, almost cringing at her insistence. "People logically would be late on the first day, right?"
Gah, Merlin! Why couldn't you be on time for something? What had Arthur been making him do now?

Well, this was nice, at least there was two extra people - and one who knew and recognized, though he had honestly hoped for a better turn out and punctual. He gave Merlin a look, as if to suggest that he thought the boy was crazy looming over him on the floor.
He gave a pause, raising an eyebrow at him, before offering out a hand to help Merlin up from the floor but the boy had done it himself.
"Don't let it happen again" he commented, looking round to Merlin, and to Door, then to Cimorene and to Plum who were there and he smiled, "It's the first day as Cimorene said; I guess I can let this slip, but just this once, agreed?"
He proceeded, as he knew this would take a while, to shake Door's and Merlin's hands in tow and introduce himself once again as Harry Dresden.
"Now, those who come in late, we're just going to be seeing what kind of magic you guys can perform today, and in turn I'll be telling my credentials. We are all students of magic here, professionals at best. I don't need you to tell me about your magic ability - the fact your here means you've studied it or have a natural gift of it and my job is to help you master it to the best of your ability."
He moved away from the group towards the back. He'd made a lot of space and pushed the tables and chairs back for a reason, his bracelet on his wrist was at the ready for his next party trick.
"I want you all to fire a spell at me, a spell of force if you will in whatever method you see fit. If you specialise in wish magic, aim a wish of force in my direction. I want to know what your power is like and this is a good judge of that. Don't worry about hurting me, I have my own ways of protecting myself, I've fought a number of magical demons in the past 20 years, and I've survived to now. I will definitely explain the ways that protect myself to you, but for now...Just try it. All of you."
He stood back and waited for their reaction. "I don't want to start quoting the Matrix, but you've got to hit me with force, and not just try too...magic is all about your emotion, it feeds off of it. The more your sure of yourself, the more you can release and the better magic you perform."
He gave a more cheeky smile at this. "So, I'm all yours. Come on."
Plum smiled at Door as she sat down. Wasn’t this a lovely surprise? They had a class together. And an interesting one at that. She had thought that Door had some kind of magical ability, but she hadn’t been quite sure. But now her suspicions were confirmed.
The blonde looked back up at Mr. Dreseden when he began to speak again. What he was saying made sense. Well, up until the part where he wanted them to use their magic against him. Honestly, that sounded very very dangerous, regardless of the fact that he was experienced with magic. What if something went wrong?
Yes, things could go very wrong. Plum wasn’t even sure she knew what Mr. Dresden meant by ‘force’. Sure, on any other day she could just roll with it, make the wish and get on with life. But today she was a fairy with a head cold. She had sneezed this morning and her hair had turned purple. Luckily that had faded so she looked normal again, but honestly, her magic was still very unpredictable. That one wish could turn out very badly, like creating an earthquake which collapsed the building down around them. Oh yes, that would be quite pleasant. Not.
Mr. Dresden had to be completely out of his mind. This was reckless. This was dangerous. But Plum was torn. He was the teacher. He had asked them to and Plum was always polite and acquiesced to reasonable requests. But this request wasn’t entirely reasonable. But would it be rude to refuse? She really hated being rude. But if he was asking he should be prepared, right?
She took a breath, trying to be outwardly calm, though inwardly that was hardly the case and she pulled out her wand. With a silent prayer she made the wish and waved her wand. She had only meant to send a gust of wind at him as a ‘force of nature’ type thing. Being a fairy that seemed appropriate. But of course the gust of wind turned into a small breeze that blew around the room once, then dissipated. And it was followed by a row of flowers springing up in its wake. “Oh dear, be careful, those are poisonous,” she pointed out before someone got too close. “That wasn’t what I meant to do at all.”

"Thank you, it won't happen again." Merlin agreed ferverently, taking his place next to Cimorene with an embarrassed and grateful smile in her direction.
At the instruction, he hesitated for a moment, not because he was worried about hurting anybody, but just to decide what was the best way to go about doing what he was asked. He was a pretty obedient boy when it came to authority (that wasn't Arthur) and since magic teachers had an extra layer of respect from him, he generally trusted that they knew what they were doing. If Dresden didn't, well, it would be a valuable lesson in over-confidence for them all.
Finally settling on the right spell, he held out his hand towards the man and focused his will, he desperately wanted to make a good impression, so he used that to pour as much force as possible into the spell. He just hoped that the teacher's protection was as good as he thought it was. Speaking the words, his eyes flashed gold as the power poured forward.

Well, looked like they were going in teams, sorta, whatever was going on, Harry knew they'd started it.
Though he hadn't honestly expected the flowers. Fairies. Darn it. She had been trying to tell himself earlier. He decided the best thing to do was to set the flowers on fire.
Flowers don't like fire too much, he considered, so he raised a hand and rolled a burst of flame over the flowers that had come towards him, then watered them down. Causing them to wither. "We'll talk after class, Plum, there's no need to worry--" he said, and just as he said that, the late boy had decided it was time for him to take on Harry's challenge. And boy was it a challenge, Harry could feel it. This kid was a natural...
This kid could well be as powerful as him already, how old was he? 20 ish?
Well crap.
Either way, he'd bought the challenge on himself, and Harry had dealt with wizards and fairies and vampires and werewolves, and all that malakary that came with magic and the Never Never and fairytale rumours. So it was time to act on his word and defend himself.
So in came the shield bracelet. Normally, it wouldn't be such an issue to just use his force back, he knew the spell after all, always had done. Was one of his favourites, but the shield bracelet was very very impressive, and would show the students that magic was powerful, but so was using magical tools.
He threw his right wrist in front of him, tapped his bracelet and demanded it to serve him with the word "Servitas!"
The bracelet sprung from his hand producing from it's 13 ringlets and thirteen moulded pieces of magic metal, that formed a powerful defence against Merlin's force. A lot of It went past Harry, who stood his ground, and was only moved back about a foot at the force of it, whilst the rest of the force hit the back of the room, and whacked the tables and chairs into the back wall, cracking them into shreds.
Harry brought his bracelet back to normal and looked back to the class. "Excellent, Merlin. Anyone else?" he said with a smile.

Door was blown away. She couldn't believe that people could do this sort of thing. Plum she got because it was wish magic and she had seen it before but she had no idea about Merlin. What could the rest of the class do? What could she even do that could possibly compare to all this? Outside of her natural magic, her spell craft was minimal and the fact that she was feeling lousy about her powers at the moment wasn't going to help apparently. She tried to contemplate anything she could do.
She could get up and make a door and go through it. She would disappear. She could make another door on the other side of where she moved herself to and appear opposite of the first door she created. Presuming that Mr. Dresden didn't go through the door and was waiting for her to come back through that one, she could perform a small fire conjure around his feet.
That was the best she could hope for. The plan that centered around her professor staring at a door but not going through it was the best she had.
Door shook her head at Mr. Dresden, hoping he wouldn't force her.
