Plum, in her rather prolonged sicknesses had fallen behind on paperwork. There was very little a sick fairy could do in the way of paperwork when she couldn’t quite think straight. But today she could think, so that meant today was the day to do paperwork that she needed to get caught up on. And it was quite a lovely day so there was no reason why she couldn’t do paperwork outside.
The lake seemed like a very appropriate place. It was calm and serene and there were few people around to distract her from getting her work done properly and in a timely manner. And the view was simply lovely. It made Plum feel almost primitive and one with nature as she supposed fairies were supposed to be. She wasn’t quite sure what her own personal connection with Nature was, but she felt as if she ought to honor it from time to time.
Everything was perfectly lovely as Plum sat on the grass. Well that is until a small breeze lifted a stray piece of paper into the air that somehow had not gotten weighed down. And the breeze blew it away before Plum had realized it was gone. And when she looked up and realized that it was floating away she hastily got to her feet and chased after the piece of paper.
Jessica was stil trying to get used to things around this new place. While there was plenty of magic here, and plenty of magical beings, it was still nothing like Ireland and left her missing home dearly. Not to mention the fact she had just died - unless that poison had been a trick and it had transported her to this place.
Sighing, the princess stretched and rose from the side of the lake where she had been sitting, feeding breadcrumbs to the geese that came up to her. Dusting her hands off on her dress, she stretched her wings as well before folding them gently against her back. Then, she continued with her walk around the lake.
While she missed Ireland, she also missed Mickey. She was deeply and truly in love with him and while he had taken the same poison - or trick transportation potion - as her, he wasn't there. It made her afraid of where he indeed was, or if he had died. Maybe she was dead and this was some sort of heaven. But then again, why would heaven be a school?
There were numerous possibilities and it left Jessica floundering for answers. Having lived a sheltered life, she still wasn't adjusted to this entire new life on her own just yet. Her thoughts were interrupted by the piece of paper flying toward her. With practiced ease she lifted a few inches off the ground and caught the paper, landing and handing it toward the girl who had been chasing after it. She gave a smile.
Plum had no idea what the paper was that she was chasing after, but it was something important. Honestly she probably could have just sent a note home and had them send another copy, but that would be quite nuisance since she had no idea just what exactly that paper was. She just knew that things would be much better if it didn’t get away.
She had been lucky, she supposed that someone would be kind enough to reach out and save the paper for her. Some people really weren’t that nice and Plum just didn’t have the magic to fish a stray piece of paper out of the lake.
But wait, was she floating? And were those…wings? She was a fairy! A real live fairy! Plum almost pinched herself to make sure she wasn’t just seeing things. But then she realized that that wasn’t really polite. So she smiled instead and took the paper. “Thank you.” The girl fairy looked new here, otherwise Plum would have heard about another fairy and come running. Fairies should stick together, you know? “I’m Plum,” she said dipping a polite curtsey. “Are you new here?” she inquired politely.
"Not a problem." She assured with a serene smile. This Plum girl seemed polite enough and Jessica did love polite people. While she had gotten used to the rowdy workings of leprachauns, she still missed the more polite and finer manners and behaviors that most faeries upheld.
She dipped into a curtsey of her own, folding her hands together in front of her as she rose. "I'm Faerie Princess Jessica. A pleasure to meet you, Miss. Plum." Jessica said in response to her introduction. Another smile graced her lips.
"Yes, I'm rather new. I came in from Ireland a week ago. I've managed to find my way around and figured out a lot of things, but I can't help but feel slightly out of place. I suppose it's because there's not many faeries here like me." She gave a mild shrug, smoothing invisible wrinkles out of her dress. "That, and I've never been to a real school before."
Plum was pleasantly surprised when the girl curtseyed back. There were few people she had met that were quite as formal as she was. Most people preferred a handshake, which was just fine, but not quite what Plum preferred. And then the girl announced herself as a faerie princess! She’d never met a fairy princess before! How lovely! And what a lovely name as well.
Plum smiled at Jessica. “Well, you happen to have met the right person. I myself am also a fairy. The Sugar Plum Fairy to be exact. Welcome to Tintagel!” Really, having another fairy around would do wonders for Plum’s spirits. Especially a fairy princess. “And not to worry dear, I’d never been to a real school before I came here either.”
Plum was really quite pleased. Perhaps she could take Princess Jessica under her wing and help her out a bit. Fairies really ought to stick together after all. “If there’s anything I can help you with, please don’t hesitate to ask. I’ve been here a year so I know my way around pretty well.” Plum was always more than willing to help.
Jessica smiled a brilliant smile at the mention of the girl across from her being a faerie. That was wonderful! She didn't look like any of the other faeries she had lived with back in Ireland, but they came in all shapes and sizes so she didn't doubt that this girl was in fact a faerie. And well on her way to being Jessica's friend.
She laughed. "Thank you. The only one who ever officially welcomed me was the Headmistress - she seemed nice enough - but I'm still so lost. There's magic here I've never seen before, and creatures I've never even heard about." She said, rather excitedly.
"I would love if you could show me around sometime, or at least fill me in on . . . everything!" She giggled. "I haven't the faintest idea about anything except that I have to show up for classes and do this homework stuff. Whatever it is."
Plum smiled genuinely at Jessica. Fairies should really stick together. This was doing wonders for Plum’s spirits. She was feeling so much better just talking to the other girl. She felt as if her flu-like symptoms would disappear in only a couple more days if she continued to feel this upbeat and wonderful. This was like a different kind of magic, but magic all the same.
“Yes, the Headmistress is very nice. And yes, I’m sure everything is very confusing. Anyone can come here. There are mostly humans, but many of them have some kind of magic,” she explained. Plum was not overly surprised the other girl was so confused. She had been relatively confused herself upon coming here.
“And I would love to show you around,” Plum told her with another smile. She always tried to be useful, but showing Jessica around would probably be very fun. “And I’ll answer any questions you have to the best of my ability. I’m not sure about everything of course, but I’ll do my best to be a good tour guide. And homework is work you have to do outside of class for class. But don’t worry about it. I’m sure you’ll know everything very soon.”
