Not What I Expected [Meredith]

Tyrone was sitting on one of the many benches that seemed to laying around here. He couldn't help but compare Trenale to Florin. He would always prefer Florin. Florin was where life was perfect. He was prince, got everything he needed or wanted, and got to do exactly as he pleased. Really, why he needed to leave was beyond him. Father said it was to learn how to deal with idiots, and he supposed if he were (no, would. He would be King), that was something he would have to deal with on a regular basis.

He may have needed to be here, but that didn't mean he wanted to be here. And while, at the moment, neither of his pesky siblings were here, he knew they would very soon be following him. It was dreadful, the whole thing. Either they needed to come here, and him go back to father, or they needed to stay there and leave him be. He preferred the former. He looked around as he crosses his arms and sighed, wanting nothing more than to get back to Florin as soon as was possible.

Meredith had just finished a very tiring fencing practice, and was making her way across the courtyard with her arms wrapped around a veritable armory - well, ok, not quite, she had two wooden practice swords and two perfectly normal broadswords, in their scabbards of course.
Her hair was up in a ponytail and she was wearing her baggy workout clothes, so she wasn't looking particularly princessy, which was about par for the course really, since Meredith never looked princessy if she could help it, she just wasn't one of those girls that went around flaunting her title unless she really needed to.

Everything was going just fine until she was passing Tyone, which was when gravity struck and one of the wooden swords slipped from her grasp, clattering to the floor.

"Oh, b*****r." Meredith sighed, trying for a moment to juggle the other swords so she could pick that one up, before giving up and looking over at him "Could you grab that for me?"

Tyrone really didn't even acknowledge that anyone else was around most of the time. As far as he was concerned everyone should just stay out of his way. He was going to be king one day, he needed to act like it. The throne was all but his and, mercy on his soul, all that had to be done now was wait on his father to pass on. Then he would be King of Florin. It would be a beautiful day. And there was nothing Elizabeth or her mother could do about it. The mere thought of the fact that the throne was all but secured for him brought a smirk to his face.

Or at least, it did until someone had the nerve to drop something in front of him. It didn't even register until she, a woman, dared to ask for his help. He looked at her, and flat out lied as he leaned back on the bench. "Sorry, my hands are full." He tried, and failed, to hold back the smirk that came forward. Really, why she would expect him to help her was beyond him.

Meredith raised an eyebrow at him, looking very pointedly at his completely empty hands.
"What are they full of?" She asked disdainfully "Your ego?"

It was probably a leap to assume arrogance from one little quip that could simply have been meant as a joke, but she took in the smirk on his face and the way he was sat and she was pretty sure she'd hit the nail on the head. She'd met plenty of arrogant nobility in her time, she was starting to spot the signs.
It made her wish her arms weren't full and she just had one sword, though Merlin would probably tell her off for thinking like that.

Tyrone laughed and shook his head. This was what he expected, he supposed. For whatever reason, women liked to pretend to be damsel in distress. He never bought it. His sister and his mother disproved any form of that being possible. "And why would you think that?"

Alright, so he had an ego. But it was given to him really. After all, he was going to one King one day, and a King couldn't let people walk all over him. Lacking in ego meant the people might try and get you to do things for them. That wasn't his problem though. "Tell me, why exactly should I help you?"

"I wonder." Meredith retorted sarcastically, rolling her eyes "Trust me, I've met enough of your type before, I can spot you a mile off."
Every word out of his mouth just confirmed her initial assessment. Spoilt arrogant brat. Probably at least nobility if not royalty.

"Because I needed a hand and it wouldn't have been difficult for you. Silly of me for expecting even the smallest act of human kindness, clearly." She spat, every word dripping with disdain. Crouching down beside the dropped sword, she lay the others on top of it so she could gather them all in one go and pick it up again, scowling all the while.
Years of princess lessons had aimed to teach Meredith to be courteous, polite, and express her distaste for anything in the most diplomatic and patient of ways.
They failed.
