personailty: Tuck has a lot of conflicting interests. He is haunted by the family he left behind but he harbours a lot of anger towards them for virtually abandoning him in the first place. Likewise, his faith is basically the core of who he is but at the same time it is the reason he questions everything else he believes in. He has extremely strong convictions and is not afraid to defend them even if he questions them himself sometimes. Religion is the one issue that can get him riled up enough to have an intense argument with someone although he will also speak up if he thinks something is wrong.
When Tuck gives his loyalty he gives it completely and the only thing that can detract from his objectivity is his emotional attachment to someone or something else. He has a very strong sense of right and wrong and when he has to choose between doing the "right" thing and doing what is best for himself or a friend he can often be indecisive. He is caught also between the promises he made to the church and the beliefs he has begun to formulate for himself.
appearance:
Tuck is good at blending in. He tries to be as inconspicuous as he can, wearing earth tones when he is walking outdoors and trying his best to go unnoticed even when he is in social settings. There was a time when he had shaved his head and looked a lot like every other monk at the monastery, but his hair has since grown out and sometimes hangs in his eyes. He has a slender build and isn't remarkably muscular although he is very agile and can survive a fight even if he has to run away to get out of it.
history:
Tuck was born in a very poor village in the English countryside in the middle of a famine. His family was literally starving and Tuck himself nearly died a few times when he was a child because of the food shortage. They managed to survive until Tuck's second sister was born, and after that, they decided that the best way to ensure the survival of the whole family was to send Tuck to be educated at the monastery. He would have food and shelter there and the family wouldn't have to worry about feeding him. So when Tuck was thirteen he and his father made the journey to the monastery, where Tuck was left to find his own path in life.
The monastery wasn't so bad. He was eager to learn and although he had to spend a lot of his time at prayer or reading he did learn a lot. He made all the right professions of faith, and it looked like he was going to become an excellent monk. But when he was fifteen word came that his village had been attacked by roaming vandals (just as starving as his family had been) and his parents had been killed. His sisters were taken prisoner. Tuck's first instinct was to go and find his sisters, protect them, save them from the terrible fate that probably awaited them. But after a long talk with the Abbot, he was talked into staying at the monastery to finish his education and not go off on a violent quest for vengeance.
That decision would haunt him from that day on. Unable to sleep at night, Tuck turned to alcohol to help him chase away the demons and let him get some rest, and before he realised it, the drinking had become a habit. It wasn't until the Prior caught him taking the communion wine that anyone knew how bad the habit had become. Devastated that he might lose the only thing left in his life that had meaning, Tuck begged that he be allowed to do something to make amends for his behaviour. He was told that he could no longer remain a monk at the monastery but that he would have to make his way from then on by the charity of others. Someday, if he was able to prove himself, he would be able to return to the monastery.
Banished and confused, Tuck wandered. He was conflicted between searching for his sisters and doing as he was supposed to - selling indulgences and bringing lost souls to salvation. Hopefully avoiding alcohol along the way. The money seemed to make him feel even guiltier, though. Selling pieces of paper for money to people who didn't even have money to feed their families seemed like an even greater sin than the drinking, and finally Tuck, in a defiant gesture that could well have ended his chances at reconciliation with the monastery, began giving the money to Robin Hood instead of keeping it safely in his wagon to be returned to the church.
But while Tuck's convictions and his opinions of church procedure had changed somewhat his desire to help people and learn had not. He did not know Robin Hood and his men well personally - only his brief encounters of donation served as an introduction, but the school they were attending seemed to be promising. And thus, here he is.
He recently performed Robin and Marian's wedding, and with that solidification of his credibility as a religious figure. With a bit more mental assurance in that department, he's begun to focus himself a bit more on his studies.
