Hel had not been at all sure she wanted to come to this holiday village. It was supposed to be during the pagan holiday of Christmas and it was all decorated as such. Hel had no intention partaking in the skiing and ice skating, nor had she any need to shop. She did, however, want to walk amongst the trees. They reminded her of a time long passed. The forest reminded her of her childhood, spent happily with her brothers and her mother.
Hel wandered among the trees, completely lost in her own thoughts about home, her first home. Not her most recent home, Helheim which was also home to all of those who died of illness, old age or were slaves. It was a time before the prophecy which foretold that she had her brothers would cause the downfall of everything. It was a time before Odin had torn her family apart. It was a time she had not thought about in a very long time, but here in the snow covered woods she was thinking of that time now long past.
She remembered playing the snow as a child. The thought made her elated and almost peaceful though she missed her brothers. The three of them had all been separated long ago and she had heard of their fates through the stories of the long departed when they had come to her for safe keeping. It was in those early days when she swore her vengeance against Odin and any of the others who had had a hand in her exile.
It was only the crunching of the snow behind her that pulled her from her meandering thoughts of the past. She should not dwell on the past for it did nothing. Instead she turned, her face expressionless as always, to view the approaching person.
