personailty: Despite her stunning physical beauty, there is little that is positive about Aphrodite's personality. Vain, ill-tempered, petty, and jealous are all words that apply easily to her. She cannot stand to be upstaged, and the idea that someone is more beautiful than she is laughable, though her greatest fear. She spends her days fawning over herself in a mirror or reflecting pool, and picking over every tiny flaw she may find. The endless attention she recieves from men goes straight to her head, and she is quite easily the most egotistical Goddess on Mount Olympus.
She does manage to play well with others, however, having learned what each of her family desires and using it to her advantage. She can seduce and manipulate whoever she wants whenever she wants to, without the other person even realizing it's happening. She's had that much practice, of course. Sex is easily her favorite pasttime, and, as the men of Olympus will attest to, she is the best at it. Desire and beauty are her games, and she plays them well. With simply a glance, men fall at her feet, and it takes little persuasion at all to get what she wants from them.
appearance: Aphrodite is the epitome of physical beauty. Her hair falls in loose curls down to the middle of her back, ranging in color from a light caramel to a dark chocolate, depending on the light and the season. Her eyes are a perfect almond shape and a light green color like that of the sea, offset by thick, dark lashes. Her lips are decidedly her most prominent feature, full, lush, and coral pink. Her ivory complexion resembles smooth marble in texture and is completely flawless. When she does clothe herself, she wears loose, flowy garments in colors of the sea, mainly coral, blue, and green.
history: Aphrodite is the daughter of Zeus and Dione, born a full-grown woman in the height of her beauty. As such, her childhood did not exist. Fearing that her presence would cause discord and violence amongst the other gods, Zeus was quick to marry her off to Hephaestus, a fact which greatly angered Aphrodite. She is frequently unfaithful to her husband, disgusted by his deformity. She much prefers Ares, the handsome and volatile god of war.
It is said that Aphrodite was one of the ultimate causes of the Trojan War. Eris's tossing of a golden apple claiming it to be "for the fairest" sparked a fight between Hera, Aphrodite, and Athena, all insisting they were the fairest. Zeus, not wanting to display favoritism, left the choice to Prince Paris of Troy, who chose Aphrodite after she promised him the most beautiful mortal woman in the world for his bride should she be chosen. This woman was Helen, and her abduction sparked Hera and Athena to encourage war between Greece and Troy.
Aphrodite is often the cause of little spats between the other gods and goddesses. One such incident was between herself and Persephone, over the mortal Adonis. She came upon the baby boy beneath a Myrrh tree and takes pity on him, taking him to Persephone to be cared for. When Adonis grows into a strikingly handsome young man, Aphrodite returns to the Underworld to reclaim him. Persephone, however, will not give him up. When Zeus is asked to intervene, he decides that Adonis will spend one-third of the year with Persephone, on-third with Aphrodite, and the other third with whomever he chooses. Not surprisingly, he chooses Aphrodite.
Adonis begins his year on the earth with Aphrodite. One of his greatest passions is hunting, and although Aphrodite is not naturally a hunter, she takes up the sport just so she can be with Adonis. They spend every waking hour with one another, and Aphrodite is enraptured with him. However, her anxiety begins to grow over her neglected duties, and she is forced to leave him for a short time. Before she leaves, she gives Adonis one warning: do not attack an animal who shows no fear. Adonis agrees to her advice, but, secretly doubting her skills as a huntress, quickly forgets her warning.
Not long after Aphrodite leaves, Adonis comes across an enormous wild boar, much larger than any he has ever seen. It is suggested that the boar is the god Ares, one of Aphrodite's lovers made jealous through her constant doting on Adonis. Although boars are dangerous and will charge a hunter if provoked, Adonis disregards Aphrodite's warning and pursues the giant creature. Soon, however, Adonis is the one being pursued; he is no match for the giant boar. In the attack, Adonis is castrated by the boar, and dies from a loss of blood. Aphrodite rushes back to his side, but she is too late to save him and can only mourn over his body. Wherever Adonis' blood falls, Aphrodite causes anemones to grow in his memory. She vows that on the anniversary of his death, every year there will be a festival held in his honor.
On his death, Adonis goes back to the underworld, and Persephone is delighted to see him again. Eventually, Aphrodite realizes that he is there, and rushes back to retrieve him. Again, she and Persephone bicker over who is allowed to keep Adonis until Zeus intervenes. This time, he says that Adonis must spend six months with Aphrodite and six months with Persephone, the way it should have been in the first place.
She is strongly opposed to her son's relationship with Psyche, jealous of the mortal woman's beauty and fearful that it surpasses her own. She does not make her distaste for the girl unknown, and will often supply Eros with mundane chores and errands in an attempt to prevent him from seeing her. As of late, she's grown terribly bored with this, and decided to follow some of the other gods and goddesses to Avalon, taking up a position as the resident sex ed professor.

sample post: (from an old greek mythos site I was on, playing as Hecate.)
Hecate turned around almost disinterestedly as she heard Eros's voice behind her, resisting the urge to roll her eyes. This was just the sort of encounter she wanted to avoid. But, it seemed the fates had other plans for her, and threw the one God she wanted to stay away from right in her face. Eros was known for his lustful ways, much like his mother. He had his sights set on just about any female he came across, no matter whether or not they rebuffed him. It was almost pitiful. "Don't worry your pretty head over it," she commented dryly, crossing her arms over her chest. She wasn't in the mood to deal with him, not tonight when she was already frustrated and a headache was beginning to rage.
But, getting rid of him was never that easy. He was stubborn as a bull and about as thick-headed. It wouldn't matter what she said, if he was set on wooing her, or whatever it was he did, he wouldn't leave unless she gave in or threw him out. And even then, the latter was questionable. She'd not been the object of his pursuits yet, but had heard enough from other Goddesses (and seen enough of Psyche) to know that he was relentless in them. Honestly, though, she'd be damned if she would give in to the sexual demands of someone young enough to be her grandson. She'd be about the only one who wouldn't, though. Hecate couldn't give much credit to her relatives and their morality. If someone offered, they'd accept, no questions asked.
"I don't see where my worries are any of your concern, young one," she added as an afterthought, hoping he'd take the hint. She didn't count on it, however. It'd be like hoping that one day Narcissus would talk about someone other than himself. It wasn't likely to happen. Turning away again, Hecate continued to rub her temple, wishing the damned headache would go away. It was irritating, like a swarm of flies buzzing around her head. It was distracting, and she couldn't think straight. Not being able to reason clearly bothered her greatly, particularly in a situation like this, where she needed to be able to think. If this got any worse, and this boy kept persisting, lord knows what would happen.
