Personality: Once innocent and naive, idealistic and trusting, Snow has grown quite bitter and detached over the past ten years. She is unhappy and jealous of those who remind her of how she once was. No longer does she sing when alone, nor does she converse with animals; in fact, she seems to have lost that ability as she grew up and her heart grew cold.
Appearance: Lips as red as blood, hair as black as ebony, skin as white as snow... you know how it goes. Once the “fairest of them all”, while still beautiful, Snow no longer has the first bud of beauty that had once enraged the Queen and enamored so many. Her beauty is more mature now, her body a little fuller from motherhood, and her once vivid eyes have dulled over time.
She still chooses to dress in the more traditional wear of long skirts and dresses, and often ties her hair back in a severe bun. She wears minimal jewellery and accessories, and though a golden wedding ban still adorns her finger it no longer binds her heart.
History:Once upon a time there was a kind king and a beautiful queen whom everyone adored, but while they were truly happy there was always something missing: a child. One day, while sewing, the good Queen pricked her finger and wished upon her blood for a daughter; nine month later this wish was granted, but sadly the Queen barely lived long enough to see her baby’s face.
Eventually the king remarried, but his new wife was vain, proud, and deeply jealous of the young princess, Snow White’s, beauty, so once the king passed she dressed the child in rags and made her work as a scullery maid, but even this could not hide the girl’s beauty as she came of age.
Meeting a prince in the garden one day, the bloom of love seemed to increase her beauty and the magic mirror finally proclaimed her to be the fairest of all, much to the queen’s dismay. Filled with jealousy, Snow’s step-mother sent the girl into the woods with her personal huntsman, who was meant to kill the young princess. Unable to complete the task he bade her to run and run she did until she came across a small cottage where she took solace. The cottage was the home of seven dwarves who agreed to let her stay with them so long as she cooked and cleaned while they worked all day, which Snow eagerly agreed to.
Life went on happily until an old beggar woman called upon her one day, and after she was so kind to the woman who was very frightened by Snow’s animal friends, she was offered a magical apple that was meant to make her wishes come true. What Snow did not know was that the beggar woman was actually the Queen in disguise and the apple was poisoned. Biting into it she fell dead to the floor.
The Dwarves found her moments later and, after mourning her a few days they still found her so beautiful they could not bring themselves to bury her so they placed her in a glass coffin. This is where the prince found her. With a kiss she awoke, and they rode off to his castle together to live happily ever after.
This is where the story takes an unfortunate twist, as it seems that while Happily Ever After is a nice was to end a story, life rarely ends that way. Snow married her prince within a fortnight and a year later she bore their first child, a daughter. Unfortunately neither motherhood nor the social pressures of her new life agreed with her, and by the time she finally produced an heir with their third child, her marriage was little more than a technicality. The silly, childish love she had felt for this prince after their first meeting had faded. As they had actually gotten to know each other and seen past the physical beauty they found that they had little in common, nor were they particularly fond of each other.
Feeling unhappy and trapped, Snow left the children with their governess and travelled to Tintagel where she accepted a teaching position. A land full of wide-eyed dreamers sounded like torture, but maybe she could help them avoid the mistakes she made, or perhaps there was something more waiting for her there...
Other: Dreams do come true... for a while
TELLtheTALE
Sample Post: Happily ever after... now that was a laugh. That’s what they wanted people to believe, and the false dreams they were filling these poor children’s minds with. It was true that they might meet a prince, that they might fall in love and marry, live in a castle and have pretty dresses and servants and all the fame and material items their little hearts desired, but happily ever after? That was hardly a guarantee.
Lining up all the utensils, measuring cups and bowls, Snow White frowned at the ten empty workstations before her. She could tell her students that not all fairytales ended the way they did in the storybooks, but she wasn’t here to teach them anything important about life; she was merely here to teach them to cook. Well, at least it was something she enjoyed, and something she had not done since her time with the dwarves.
Maybe all these children would not all end up like her, maybe some of them would actually get to live happily ever after. It wasn’t her place to disillusion them.
Looking up at the door as the first of her students entered, Snow felt a stab of envy. The girl was young, beautiful and completely carefree, her soft voice raised just slightly in a lovely tune. It had been far too long since Snow had had anything even resembling a song in her heart.
