Hodr was not at all pleased. Without so much as a by your leave he was magically transported to a new place. Again. And this time he had been completely unprepared for it. Now he had to map out an entirely new place in his mind. It was a lot of hard work for a blind man to figure out where he was. The staff in his hand thumped at the ground but there was snow everywhere covering the ground. The air was cold. He could smell that there was crispness about the air that could only mean that it would soon snow. And here was, in the middle of somewhere, magically dumped there because the school decided it would be a good idea. Well, he supposed that now would be as good a time as any to die again and rejoin Hel in her halls. If he had wanted winter, he would have stayed there with Hel.
He heaved a great sigh, shuffling along in the snow. His sweater was soft to the touch but it didn't keep the cold out which wasn't at all helpful. Someone should have warned him. He would have put a jacket on if he had to leave the warmth and relative safety of the school. This would be so much easier if he had someone to guide him. "Great," he mumbled. "Just great. Loki probably had a hand in this too."
Snow had already been planning many winter outfits as the weather turned colder. She wasn't sure if it snowed in the place where she now lived, but she liked to be prepared and enjoyed making dresses to terribly much. Upon waking up in this winter wonderland, Snow quickly put a few finishing touches on one of her favorite creations and rushed out into the snowy hills. Her dress was all red with a few white accents and a long red cape and trailed in the snow behind her. It was long sleeved and well lined to keep out the cold, though the snow was indeed a bit deep for her pretty little boots. She didn't mind. The snow made everything look so clean and beautiful and magical and...is that Hodr?
"Hodr!" Snow called form a few paces away "Oh Hodr! Hello!" She chirped, closing the steps between them. He seemed rather flustered. Perhaps it was because he needed some help. It was a good thing they were friends. She thought to reach out a hand, but hesitated. It may be quite inappropriate to make a move such as that and, yet, it was different when you couldn't simply extend your hand and expect them to notice. He wouldn't be able to see it. Better to at least ask. "It is very good to see you, friend." She smiled brightly. "Would you like some help?"
Baldr, thanks to some help from a few very kind people, was much better equipped for winter weather now. He didn't mind the cold; he had always been well-loved in cold places, and when they had arrived here...well, it was still better than just staying dead until the end of days, certainly. The snow was deep, but he was strong, and he forged on through it, down from the door of the cabin he had found himself in, swinging his arms enthusiastically as he pushed through the heavy drifts. It was a workout, and Baldr loved working out.
He caught sight of his brother before Hodr saw him - it was really impossible for it to go any other way, wasn't it? Hodr wasn't wearing a coat, and Baldr sighed. Sometimes he wondered how Hodr would ever have survived without him. He was striding his way through the snow towards Hodr, determined to guide his obviously-freezing brother back indoors to find a coat or a blanket or something, when a beautiful girl in a very bright red dress rushed over to him. She clearly knew him, she said his name, and Baldr hesitated slightly. What was going on here? Was someone else trying to take care of Hodr instead of him?
In an instant, a surge of relief washed over him. It was premature, he knew; this girl might just be a casual friend, but he couldn't help it. The idea of having someone else around to help look after Hodr, to make sure nothing bad happened to him now that Baldr couldn't just throw himself in front of charging beasts and whatnot without worrying about getting killed himself...it was maybe the greatest thing he'd ever heard. He jogged over to the two of them, high-stepping in the snow, and came to stand next to both of them.
"Hodr! And friend!" he said brightly, smiling at both of them. Hodr would hear the smile in his voice even if he couldn't see it, he knew. "It is a snowy day, is it not? Hodr, you must put on a coat." And with that, Baldr shrugged off his own coat, under which he was wearing...well, nothing, and draped it over his brother's shoulders before standing proudly, hands on his hips, naked from the waist up. "I am Baldr," he said, to Snow. "I am this one's brother. He is a very special person, but I am sure you have already noticed that."
If Hodr hadn't been so worried about his grumblings he would have heard Snow's approach. He didn't hear her until she called his name and he lifted his head, turning his face in her direction. He stopped shuffling around, hoping that the snow maiden might help him find his way. "Little snow maiden," he greeted her. "I am very lost. Will you help me?" He asked, reaching a hand out to her.
Then someone came stomping over to them, snow crunching under foot. Ah, it was Baldr. Baldr, who has decided that he was going to embarrass him in front of the snow maiden. "Baldr," he hissed, shrugging his arms into the coat, wishing he could elbow his brother in the gut. He was grateful for the coat, but not so grateful for such embarrassing behavior. "Snow maiden, this is my twin brother, Baldr. Baldr is the god of light and other things. Too many things," he said waving a hand as if it was nothing.
Hodr gestured towards snow. "Baldr, this lady is called Snow White, but she has allowed me to call her the snow maiden. She is very sweet."
Suddenly, Hodr felt a pang of pain. He put a hand to his head over the spot where it hurt, which strangely was his eyes. He blinked suddenly and something was different. There was still darkness, but not as much as usual. He kept blinking. Was this light? Could it be light? Where was his darkness going? "Baldr," he said sharply with a note of panic. "Something is happening. There is not enough darkness." He inhaled through a stabbing pain. "Is this another of Loki's tricks?"
