Dress as the Romans Do {Anna}

[Elsa]

"I'm not coming out," Elsa declared, almost flushing as she realized the irony in calling this statement out for Princess Anna to hear. After all, Anna still didn't know what Elsa was growing more and more confident of. But for right now, in this moment, that wasn't what Elsa was referring to. Oh no, this was much simpler:

She wasn't leaving the dressing room.

To be wholly accurate, she wasn't leaving the dressing room dressed in what she was wearing now. One of them, and at this point Elsa really wanted to blame Anna, but in all honest she might have suggested it herself, had come to the realization that the people here dressed differently than they did in Arendelle. Girls wore trousers, for example, or in the case of what was on Elsa now: jeans.

"You can see my everything," she protested, running a hand along her rear. In reality, they were just a pair of jeans that fit her. They actually showed off a pair of rather nice legs in what most modern people who weren't queens from a quasi-medieval fairy tale world would consider classy. The pale teal sweater Elsa wore on top fit with the rest quite nicely, and it had been slung slightly off shoulder to show quite a bit of pale flesh. "Why are we starting with me again?" she asked, leaning slightly but still not coming out of the dressing room. She was fighting the urge to blush at this point.

[Princess Anna]

"Come oooon," Anna almost groaned, fighting the urge to hop from foot to foot in anticipation. She was desperate to see how Elsa looked in the strange modern fashion of this place, she was pretty much desperate to throw herself entirely into everything about this place, some of the food looked interesting too, maybe she could convince Elsa to go to lunch after this and try those burger things she'd seen, they looked like sandwiches but better.

"I'm sure it's not that bad! I bet it looks really nice!" she genuinely believed that, her sister was so pretty she would probably look beautiful in one of Oaken's big baggy sweaters, so this form-fitting modern stuff had to suit her. "And we're starting with you because you're the one who needs to get out and make new friends and have new experiences."
It wasn't her most convincing argument ever when the same could be said of her, but she'd said it now so she was going to run with it.

[Elsa]

Well, that didn't sound familiar at all, did it? Anna standing outside her door, all but begging her to come out. Elsa was almost tempted to teasingly ask if she wanted to make a snowman .Except that Olaf was wandering around and Elsa was still feeling like she was dressed like some sort of slattern in this outfit.

Oh right, because Elsa needed more friends and experiences. Elsa flushed slightly, realizing that literally all her conversations had been these secretive things, some literally done in the night or the shadows. Even the best one, that dance in the ballroom, had been rather lonesome. Actually, now that Elsa thought about it, Carmilla had dressed rather modern, hadn't she? Plus she did technically have another evening with her planned.

Which she really should tell Anna about, right?

One thing at a time.

"Okay," she said, taking a breath. She clenched and released her hands, noticed the small flurry of snow that came out. Elsa frowned at that, flicked her fingers to knock a few loose, then stepped outside. "I'm still not sure about these... jeans," she said, twisting to look. "They seem to show everything, don't they?"

Even as the similarities occurred to Elsa, they occurred to Anna, but rather than putting a downer on her mood they made her smile - who would have thought, all those days sitting outside Elsa's door, that one day she'd be standing outside a changing room trying to get her sister to try on some weird modern clothes in a weird modern school... nobody, to be honest, because this whole place was so crazy you couldn't have even dreamt it up. It was pretty amazing though.

"They look comfortable though!" Anna said encouragingly, all but dancing around her sister to get a good look. They were sort of scandalously form-fitting, like she was wearing leggings for warmth under her skirt but had forgotten to put on the skirt, and no doubt there were plenty of people back home who'd faint on seeing Elsa dressed so - for a variety of reasons - but there was something about it that really suited her.

"And they look good! You look beautiful!"

[Elsa]

"They are certainly more comfortable than most of what we wear back home," agreed Elsa readily enough. "I'm not sure I'd be removing any of these while singing on a mountain," she let out a slight, slightly nervous laugh at that. She'd told Anna about that experience now, so she knew full well that her sister would know precisely what she was referencing.

Elsa ran her hands along the sides, frowning. "Yes, but, again, you're my sister. You're all but obligated to say that,' she looked down at her body, almost as if noticing the slight, feminine curves for the first time. She didn't have near her sister's warmth or exuberance, even when smiling Elsa had that touch of winter. But these clothes did feel rather fetching, and it had Elsa running a hand along her braided hair.

"They do seem to fit in more than what we were wearing," she allowed, looking around the store. Nearly every woman wore trousers, mostly jeans from what Elsa could see. There were some skirts, but most of those were scandalously short. And there was something in Elsa that almost liked the idea of wearing jeans exclusively. She looked at several pictures displaying various styles and fashions. A few did look more appealing, such as the one showing someone wearing glasses, a hat, and what appeared to be fairly loose clothing... not too far off from what Elsa wore, though admittedly hers were perhaps a tad more... glitzy? "Do you suppose we should try to find out own sense of fashion?" she asked, before looking back to her sister, scanning. "And you need to try something on as well. I bet you could actually pull off one of those skirts," she pointed at one of the scandalously short (by Arendelle standards) numbers on a nearby manikin. "I'm sure Kristoff would be most impressed."

[Princess Anna]

"I still think it's weird that you threw off your gloves, I mean weren't you cold? Wait, what am I saying, of course you weren't." Anna giggled.

"I think so," Anna agreed enthusiastically "There's no restrictions here, we don't have to make sure we're dressing properly or appropriately, at least, not totally, here it seems like all these clothes are appropriate, whoever you are! This is our chance to find out what we really like to wear!" she liked her pretty dresses and her colourful cloaks, she did, but they were all very restricted by her station and the style of Arendelle, she was excited to find her own preferences.

"Me? You-" she stopped short, blushing crimson, stammering to find a response - she supposed it was only fair, she'd made Elsa go first, she'd started the teasing, it was going to backfire on her eventually.

"Okay, I'll try one of these skirts... but I'm wearing it like that," she pointed to a mannequin wearing one of the short skirts, but with a thick pair of tights underneath. It was still shockingly skimpy by Arendelle standards, but at least she'd feel more comfortable.

[Elsa]

Elsa just gave Anna a slight smile and those raised brows as her sister worked through how not-chilly her older sibling had been. She looked back toward the mirror, however, admiring herself again. She certainly did appreciate it, and she did think it looked striking. It certainly felt more comfortable. And really, did trousers reveal that much more than a dress? Besides legs, which everyone knew they had.

"Yes, the rules of propriety are certainly different," Elsa noticed the images in the mirror, the pictures on the wall. Should she try changing her hair, perhaps? She ran her hands through it, again wondering for a moment. Before noticing her sister's reddening, that is.

"Well, naturally," agreed Elsa. she strode confidently up to the mannequin in question, not even seeming put out by her new clothes in the least. She looked them over, finding one of the colored skirts and a set of tights. She plucked them, holding them out to her sister, considering. "Well, you really should pick your own," admitted Elsa. She looked at the pictures again. "Do you think I'd look alright with different hair?" she asked, again running her hand through her locks.

[Princess Anna]

Anna looked at the skirt and tights her sister had picked out thoughtfully for a moment before nodding "No, it's okay, I like these ones." they probably were the ones she would have picked out for herself and she was pleased that her sister had managed to learn enough about her since they reconnected that she was able to do that. She was about to turn and go try the items on when Elsa spoke again and she tilted her head curiously.

"Different? Different how? What are you thinking of doing?" she wasn't sure how her sister would look without her trademark white-blonde locks, but now that the thought was in her head she tried to consider it, imagining the hair a different colour, or shorter, and she wasn't sure what to make of it - but then, she hadn't been sure how Elsa would look in these strange new clothes until she'd come out looking so perfect in them.

[Elsa]

"Don't just say that because I picked them," said Elsa, almost too quickly .She looked to the outfit, then to her sister for a moment. "But if you do like them, then by all means," Elsa very nearly flushed at that. Fortunately, she was much more used to dealing with her sister and covering up what she said.

"I'm not talking about coloring it or anything," said Elsa. She smiled slightly. "I'm not sure it would take, given my powers. But," she pointed toward a picture, "maybe something like that?"

The picture showed a girl whose hair was about as long as Elsa's... on one side. The other looked to have been shorn a little short, nearly showing the scalp. Like Elsa, said hair happened to be fairly blonde, though not quite as white as Elsa's own. Perhaps it was also the picture itself: the girl wearing a set of slightly worn jeans much like those in the store, along with a slightly baggy sweater, looking very much "hip" as the picture insisted. There were others that looked similar too, and Elsa found herself sort of drawn to it. Plus, well, part of her wanted to make a statement of change here, one that didn't involve constructing an ice castle.

[Princess Anna]

"No, I promise, I'm not just saying that, I really like them, you have good taste." she reassured sincerely, hesitating before taking the clothes and heading into the dressing room since Elsa's hair plans were clearly still on her sister's mind.

"Hmm..." she looked at the picture, then back at Elsa, trying to envision her with the strange style the model wore, it was unlike anything she'd ever seen, but there was a certain beauty to it despite the strangeness, and she couldn't help but wonder if maybe it actually would suit Elsa... though it wasn't very queenly...

"I suppose it depends how long we stay here," she said after a while "I think it looks very.. exciting. But maybe not for royal functions and the like."
