Personality: After one death, two wars, one pregnancy, and one coronation, Alyss is far from the lost and depressed young woman who arrived at Tintagel. Oh, depression certainly comes in waves more often than she cares to admit, and she’s probably got a lot of PTSD she’s just barely holding herself together from, but we’re not going to talk too much about all of that because if she spends too much time thinking of it she’ll probably have a meltdown. Which would sort of mess up the fact that she’s become insanely good at holding herself together. Like any good queen, she can handle most problems without losing her cool. Diplomacy and helping her people prosper are her biggest priorities as queen, though she will certainly not hesitate to be stubborn if the situation calls for it. To be honest, the traditions of her role don’t matter as much to her, especially all the formalities and how people feel they must look up to her. She considers herself a servant of the nation, and wants others to know they are just as, if not more important than she is, and anyone who has an issue with that will see a harsher side to her.
There’s only one thing she’s more passionate about than her job, and that is her daughter, the only family she has left. Victoria’s existence offered her a new lease on life, and
If you notice that a lot of her personality involves either how she responds to her job or motherhood, that’s the idea. If she had any time to step away from constant activity, she would probably be somewhat lost in her thoughts, in the tragedy that her memories often haunt her with.
Appearance: Nowadays, Alyss seems to bear a stronger resemblance to her fictional self. Before she was a small brunette, looking as far from Dodgson’s/Carrol’s creation as she possibly could. Then one day, she wakes up, and instead of strands of dark hair, she finds a mass of blonde curls. Her face seems to be squarer, and her complexion somehow manages to be even paler than it was before. She’s still as thin as she was before, but it’s mostly in proportion to her new height…she’s sure she somehow gained a couple of inches in the midst of this very odd transformation.
Maturity hasn't changed her quite as much as one might expect, although nowadays she's far more likely to be in one of the more elaborate Wonderland dresses than she once was. She also carries herself with far more confidence than in her younger years, and her smile has grown more sincere and serene, even in the face of ridiculous diplomatic matters.
History: Like any good story, Alyss' life began in a far away queendom. So far off that you can only reach it from the "Dull World" if you know which puddle to step into. This kingdom was Wonderland, and Alyss was its princess, therefore its future Queen. Little Alyss was spoiled rotten for the first seven years of her life, often playing games of tag with her father, or playing pranks on her teacher, Bibwit, and other such Wonderland officials with her powers of Imagination, or getting both herself and her best friend and future guard Dodge Anders in trouble. Dodge was especially important at this time; it seems that ever since he kissed her on the cheek when she was an infant and he was just four years old, there was a connection between them. She even went so far as to ask if he would be her king one day. He told her he would be if it pleased her, even though he knew, perhaps better than even she did, that due to the class system in Wonderland, that this would be impossible.
Yet her naïve existence ended abruptly, and to think it was all because she found a kitten on her seventh birthday. Because that wasn’t a kitten; it was an assassin created by Alyss’ aunt Redd Heart, who invaded the Heart Palace and killed Alyss’ parents, Dodge’s father and essentially took over all over Wonderland. Seeing as Redd wanted the throne badly enough to kill, Wonderland was no longer safe for its young princess. At her guard, Hatter Maddigan’s, urging, she jumped into the Pool of Tears, even though no one had ever returned to Wonderland from wherever it led.
For Alyss, it led to London, England. The dirty, damp and poor streets, where she managed to find a pack of fellow orphans. It wasn’t much, but they listened to her story about Wonderland, even if enough didn’t believe it, and they managed to make a penny or two with Alyss being able to make flowers sing….until one day, she just couldn’t. That meant they had to resort to stealing, except the orphans up and left her to be captured. She spent quite a bit of time at an orphanage, where she was told that she had to stop telling her story of Wonderland and deal with the “real” horrors she faced. And things only got worse when she was adopted by the Liddel’s. Her adoptive sisters would tease her and just about every adult would scold her for her “nonsense” stories.
And that was why Reverend Dodgson seemed like a God send. Because she thought that he understood, that he believed her…only to discover that he had made a joke of her life story, turned it into a story book for children that wasn’t the least bit close to the truth. Things grew so terrible that Alyss convinced herself that she had just made up Wonderland, because that was easier than being “Odd Alice” for the rest of her life. If she hadn’t gone to Avalon almost two years ago, it would be safe to say she would’ve gone her entire life without believing in her homeland…but she came…and everything changed for her, including her appearance, once that changed to Tintagel.
Her life especially changed once she met Hermes. She resembled a lost love of his, and she could see that loss in his eyes, which made their connection unavoidable, so much so that not even him being bewitched into killing her could stop them from spending one lovely night together…which led to Alyss becoming pregnant with his child. Unlike most unexpected pregnancies, this one was seen as a blessing by Alyss. She had gone so long with very little to live for, but now…now she had something tangible to protect. Now she could have a family again…she barely even cared that she was probably not very much to the father, because now she could maybe have a future…
Then the war came. Despite her friends’ efforts to keep her safe, Alyss was tired of sitting by and letting things happen to her, so she fought…that is, until she was dragged into a portal that, shock of all shocks, landed her into the Pool of Tears, back in Wonderland…which was terribly war torn. Considering she was about to have her child on what would have been Halloween, that was even worse…but with the help of the resistance that had built up for about fifteen years, she managed to defeat Redd, come into her powers, and become queen…and now she had a country to run and a child to raise.
All things considered, things have gone fairly well for the past five years or so since the war ended…but that hardly means she doesn’t ever wonder what might have been had she stayed…and now perhaps she’ll have an answer…

TELLtheTALE
Sample Post:
Alyss didn’t bother waiting for a carriage, and had simply raced to the stables for a Spirit Dane the moment she had heard reports of a strange light coming from the Pool. Tori had insisted on going, and to be honest, if this was what she thought it was, she almost wanted her five year old to see this. So she let her come onto the Spirit Dane with her, and raced them off, unable to resist a laugh as they went along.
It wasn’t long before the novelty wore off for Tori and she asked, “Mother, what is it?”
“Well if I’m right…remember all those stories I used to tell you? About the school where I met your father?”
A wicked little grin crossed her face. “You think it’s a way back.”
Alyss took a deep breath and nodded. “Possibly…we’ll just have to see darling, won’t we?” It was so strange that she was actually looking forward to going back to a place that far better matched the madness Dodgson had wrote for her, yet as she stopped the Dane by the Pool of Tears, and saw the glowing light in the water, so similar to the portals to Tintagel, her heart skipped a beat…and honestly, nervous as she was, she glanced toward her daughter, knowing there was no way she wouldn’t be safe with her…
“Make sure to hold your breath, darling…”
