Personality:
Morgana is a complicated individual. She is loving and caring, and cares deeply for those who are important to her, but it could be argues that she cares too deeply and this has been known to lead her into trouble. She adores her son, Mordred, and will do anything to protect him and ensure his safety. And also, to some extent, his prosperity... she has been known to nurture the odd daydream of Mordred on the throne of Camelot.
Morgana knows her own mind, and is strong in her beliefs. When she was younger, Morgana was quick to anger and to answer back, she would often find herself in trouble due to her sharp tongue. However, with age comes confidence, and Morgana is no longer the petty, spoilt child she was, although she still refuses to sit quietly behind a man and stay quiet. Morgana will say what she thinks, she will voice her disagreement and opinion, and she will speak up when it is necessary. Of course, sometimes 'speaking up' means staying quiet and casting a spell or two, causing a little pain or suffering - but Morgana is very much of the belief that sometimes, pain is the best teacher. Since discovering her magical abilities, and hiding them for a long time for fear of her guardian, Uther, or adoptive brother, Arthur, finding out and having her put to death or banished; now she embraces her abilities and woe betide anyone who has a problem with them. Since Uther's death, magic became more tolerated in Camelot, however there was still some tension that existed due to her status and abilities which has made her defensive and over protective of herself and her son.
Since her spent in the mist lands of Avalon, learning they ways of the Mother Goddess, developing her magic and Sight, Morgana has become vehemently anti-Christian and pro-nature and earth. Although she tries to be true to her faith and live in the peace of the Mother Goddess, Morgana often acts rashly and without thinking of the consequences, particularly if she feels she has been wronged. It's best to stay on her good side.
Appearance:
Morgana has long, dark hair, dark brown eyes and pale skin. She is, undeniably, beautiful, although there is a hint of darkness that surrounds her, and makes some people uncomfortable. Her eyes are intense, and give the impression of seeing beyond the immediate moment or conversation. Morgana is tall and willowy, and since her time in Avalon there is a sense of something natural about her, a closeness to the Earth and to nature.
Morgana dresses in long, flowing dresses in natural colours like greens, blues and browns. She always wears a charm on a leather string around her neck, a necklace made for her by her son Mordred during the early days of their time in the mist islands of Avalon. She wears her hair down and long down her back with a natural wave. She does not wear trousers, skirts only, and generally wears comfortable boots, although she is more than comfortable to dress more appropriately for an appearance at the court of the King, and scrubs up well.
History:
Morgana was orphaned at nine years old, and raised in the castle at Camelot as the ward of King Uther. She grew up as a sister to Prince Arthur, driving him mad and being driven equally as mad - she spent most of her time trying to deflate Arthur's enormous ego, more or less unsuccessfully.
She left Camelot to attend Tintagel school with Arthur and his manservant Merlin, and soon discovered she had magical abilities - something she strove to keep hidden given Uther and Arthur's fear and loathing of magic - everyone she'd met throughout her childhood that had anything to do with magic had ended up very dead. But her powers grew, and it became harder to hide. At Tintagel she reunited with her childhood tutor, Cazaril, who she became closer and closer to, falling in love and revealing her secret. Cazaril supported her and, much to her Guardian's fury, she and Cazaril began a relationship in which Morgana became pregnant, giving birth to a son, Mordred. Morgana had found pregnancy particularly hard and cast a spell to speed it up, which backfired slightly and caused Mordred to grow at an unnatural rate. This continued in Camelot, a cause of much muttering, suspicion and fear towards Morgana and her son from the people of Camelot.
Time passed, Arthur ascended the throne, and Morgana became more and more dissatisfied with her place in Camelot, not a princess, not a queen - no more than another Lady of the Court despite her upbringing, her regal presence, her surety that Uther had been raising her to be Arthur's queen. As Mordred grew older, he sensed her unhappiness, and her resentment of the others at Court began to grow and fester in him, until things came to a head between Morgana, Arthur and Merlin, and Morgana took Mordred and left Camelot.
They have spent the last 8 or 9 years on the Mist Islands of Avalon, learning from the priestesses and druids who worship the Mother Goddess Morgana has honed and nurtured her magical gifts, developing her abilities with the Sight, and living happily as druids. Time on the faery isles is less linear than the mortal world, and this allowed the aging spell placed on Mordred to settle and wear off - allow he was, to all extents and purposes, a 10 year old boy by the time he was 2 years old, the Mist Isles and wearing off of the spell allowed his development to pause. He has been paused at 10 years old since they arrived, and now time has caught up with him and his growth has returned to normal. The subtle differences in the passing of time on the Isles have allowed Mordred to remain blissfully unaware of his aging differences, and has allowed Morgana to retain her youth, despite the years passing. Morgana's Sight allowed her to see beyond the Mists, and she has spent the last 9 years keeping an Inner eye on the goings on in Camelot and watched the passing of time in the mortal world with interest. Morgana's resentment has not subsided, however, and she has spent these years in peace and quiet plotting ways to advance her son, and to gain what should rightfully be hers.
Other:
Mordred is still living with the druids, learning how to bring about the end of the Arthurian legend and kill us all.
TELLtheTALE
Sample Post:
She didn't want to leave him, but she knew it was the right thing to do. It had been so many years, and he was no longer a child. As she stood and watched him, she smiled, proud of the boy he was and the man he would become. He would be ready soon.
And in the meantime, she needed to prepare herself. The portals had reopened - the portals that had been closed for so many years were reopened and she could go back. She had seen the others beginning to return, and she had seen them go through the portal that had opened in Camelot. It was the perfect opportunity - she could return and assess the situation, and send word to Mordred. Now could be his chance.
She couldn't help but wonder if he had returned as well. She had spent the last ten years trying to suppress the memories, not letting them take hold, not allowing herself to feel. But she had missed him. She loved him, and she saw so much of him in Mordred. The poor boy who had grown up fatherless. But he had been safe and happy here; her foolish spell had finally worn off and Mordred was a normal child again, waiting to fulfill his destiny.
She pushed the thoughts away again as she moved to say farewell to her son. She couldn't let anything distract her, and so she forced herself to forget his face again as she took her son's hand and softly kissed his forehead. He knelt before her to receive her blessing, the blessing of the Mother Goddess. As he rose, she smiled cupping his cheek in her hand and feeling her chest swell with pride.
Despite his youth, neither of them needed to say a word, as she turned towards the boat that would take her through the mists and towards the portal.
