Personality: While Milo's negative traits are those that people tend to associate with him the most (his social ineptitude, his awkwardness, etc), he has redeeming qualities as well. He's extremely loyal to his friends, and once someone has gained his trust, he has been known to put his own neck on the line for them if the situation calls for it. He is also highly determined, to the point of obsession, and if something catches his interest, he will put his all into it. He's extremely smart, particularly when it comes to history, anthropology, and language, a lot of which is due to his travels during his younger years. He is also utterly dedicated to sharing all that knowledge with others.
In addition to Milo's positive aspects, though, he is also incredibly scatterbrained. He forgets things, loses things, breaks things, all because he can't seem to stay focused on things that aren't academic. He is socially awkward, and isn't terribly outgoing, so whatever new friendships he gains are usually the result of someone choosing to reach out to him, not the other way around. Neatness is not a strong point for him, either, and his office looks like a complete disaster zone.
Appearance: Milo is moderately tall, and has filled out his frame a little as he’s gotten older and spent an average amount of time at the gym. He has light brown hair which falls around his face in a somewhat shaggy manner, and greyish green eyes which sit on either side of a slightly turned up nose behind glasses that he tries to keep remotely stylish. Somehow, he usually fails in that pursuit.
He still has a tendency to wear clothes that are a couple years out of style, or completely wrong for the occasion, although he cleans up all right when someone helps him out. He tries not to draw too much attention to himself if he can avoid it, and spends a lot of his time looking at the floor in front of him trying not to trip. This gives him the appearance of being quite introverted...which is not really inaccurate.
Another interesting physical trait of Milo's is his tendency to make up some new, odd facial expression for whatever situation he's faced with. He has approximately seventeen different smiles, and more than a few bewildered expressions, along with a whole repertoire of grimaces, scowls, quizzical glances, and others. His face is a pretty good indicator of how he's feeling, as he's never been particularly good at putting up a front.
History: Milo was raised by his grandfather after his parents were killed in a somewhat unlikely accident during a vacation to the Alps. He was really too young to remember the incident, so he wasn’t particularly scarred by the experience. All he knew was that for as long as he could remember, he’d been on the move. His grandfather traveled to a number of places, never stopping for more than a year and a half in any one place.
Milo began to study and learn the languages of the places they visited. He started with Latin, and that basis made it somewhat easier for him to master Spanish, French, and Italian. Portuguese followed soon after Spanish, and during a sojurn to the Eastern world, he learned Japanese. German and Dutch were his souvenirs from Holland, and Russian and Serbian were added to his repertoire after their stay in central Europe. Of all the languages he has mastered, though, Atlantean remains his favourite, and the one he is most proud of learning.
When Milo’s grandfather died, he was sent here to finish his schooling. Having made his way through various grades at schools around the world, he has played catch up in some subjects, and has been bored out of his mind in others, primarily history and linguistic ones. He finished his high school years at Tintagel, and made his way through his first year of university here as well.
Another experience worth mentioning is his relationip with Kidagakash, princess and future queen of Atlantis. He fell quite hard for her when he was in Atlantis, and after she came to Tintagel, he eventually managed to admit to his feelings for her, which she appeared to return. They were only together for a month or so, though, before all hell broke loose, the portals shut down, and Milo was dumped back into his ordinary world.
Faced again with a reality where no one believed in the fantastical things he claimed to have seen, Milo threw himself into the pursuit of rediscovering the place he had lived in for the past few years. It was devastating to him, intellectually, because absolutely no one even believed him, he’d had to buckle down and study like mad (even by his own standards) to catch up on the time he’d missed at university.
But he did it. He caught up on his missed school, got his PhD in linguistics, and went to work as a teacher, all the while continuing his search for the world he’d left behind. Ten years went by, and though he maintained his memories of his time at Tintagel, his belief that he would ever be able to return seemed more eccentric than ever…and then, right when all the doubt and ridicule of the past ten years began to threaten his faith in his own memories, the portals re-opened. Milo, ten years older and wiser, wasted no time in leaving behind his mundane existence and rushing back to the only place he had ever felt at home.
Other: Noooothing.
TELLtheTALE
Sample Post: Milo had multi-tasking down to an art. Sometimes. Talking to girls and maintaining coherence at the same time, that he wasn't so good at, but things like eating and reading at the same time, as he was doing right at that moment, he was quite good at. The book, a particularly deep thing on ancient Indian legends, was held up in one hand, and his fork was held easily in the other, moving mechanically from his plate to his mouth and back again. Every now and then he had to set it down in order to turn the page, but for the most part, it was an efficient system.
Then he finished the book, and discovered that he wasn't done with his dinner yet. He frowned, a little disappointed with himself that he'd forgotten to bring something else to read when he'd been that close to the end of a book. Very short sighted on his part, now he was going to have to sit here and...not look awkward for the remainder of his meal. It wasn't so bad to be sitting alone when you were reading - reading a book sort of said "hey, I'm alone on purpose, catching up on my reading, not out of social ineptitude."
He hunched over his green beans, eating them quickly so as not to linger alone in the room too long, because another thing that could happen if you were sitting alone was that someone would feel sorry for you and try to engage you in a really awkward conversation. Milo felt awkward enough without people feeling like they had to talk to him.
But something was smiling on him, because just as he was about to start in on his fish, he caught sight of a familiar face coming through the door. Excellent. Someone he actually wouldn't mind talking to!
"Morgan!" he said, much too loudly. Several people at surrounding tables looked at him a little oddly, and he immediately experienced that feeling of embarrassment he'd been trying to avoid. He tried to rectify the situation by waving calmly, like a normal person, but all he managed to do was knock his plate across the table, spilling corn across the surface of it. At that point, he hunkered down and just tried to make himself invisible.
