Uncertain Wardrobe [Lottie]

Helena bit her lip as she walked into one of the giant stores in the giant building. Back home she could, and had to, make her own clothes. Here, apparently she was supposed to buy them. While she wasn't entirely sure what that meant she knew the guy in the building had explained she was to use the paper they gave her to get her some, so she would do exactly that. If that was what she was supposed to do, it was what she would do.

Helena was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of choices. There was just so much for her to choose from! How on earth did anyone expect her to pick anything out? There was a giant room full of things to wear, and she didn't know what she was supposed to wear. They had failed to tell her what she was supposed to wear, so she just stood in front of a rack, staring at it in hopeless confusion.

Lottie was out shopping... yes, again. Well, what else did you expect her to be doing, homework? Pfft, homework was for those cheaters-wearing nobodies. Lottie much preferred to pay off some starry-eyed little rag-a-muffin to do her work for her, and there were a few around that could be bought for a lot less than money. A few kind words, a smile, a little kiss on the cheek and they did anything she wanted. It freed up her time tremendously to do what was really important: continuing her quest for destiny and, of course, shopping.

Entering one of the many shops in the mall, the petite blonde stopped dead in her tracks at the travesty that stood before her. Either this girl had taken a wrong turn on her way to a costume party or she had gotten some really bad fashion advice. And the poor thing looked so utterly confused! Why, it was simply Lottie’s duty to at least offer some help!

“I know it’s temptin’ ta try, but if ya stare at them long enough unfortunately tha right outfit’s not gonna just jump from the rack. Ya gotta work for fashion,” she said, coming up to stand in front of the girl and give her a quick once over. She was certainly a pretty little thing, but that shapeless drape she was wearing was simply doing nothing for her.

As Helena stared at the rack a very odd voice spoke to her. She didn't know who it was that was for sure. She looked at her, and tilted her head to the side a touch. So, the girl seemed helpful, but she was so lost she wasn't sure anyone could help.

Helena did however nod at her response. "Right. So how does one....work for...." she said this next word with some more confusion, "fashion?" She had no idea what fashion was, much less how to work for it. Maybe this girl could help her.

Oh, the poor thing was just absolutely clueless! She spoke of fashion as if it was some foreign concept, or that she might even believe it could bite her if she didn’t work for it hard enough. This was beyond sad.

“Don’t you worry one bit, sugah, Little Lottie’s gonna fix you right up,” she said, taking hold of the girl’s shoulders and leading her away from the rack she had been staring at. She might be tall, but she certainly wasn’t a plus size. “You think I just roll outta bed, throw any ol’ thing on and walk out looking like this?”

Releasing the girl, Lottie stood in front of her and turned in a circle, her skirt billowing out slightly as she twirled. “Obviously I already got a good base ta start with, but with the wrong colours or cut, why I could look horrific!”

Not that she believed that, but it made a good story for the girl. She could look unfashionable if someone drugged her and dressed her terribly, but even then she was sure she could never look horrific. Lottie was far too confident in her beauty and charm to believe that.

Helena was bewildered as Lottie led her away from the rack. Apparently she was doing something wrong. What exactly that was she wasn't sure. Whatever it was, this Lottie person wanted to fix it. She could certainly see that she was going to help. Lottie was right, she was beautiful. She being Lottie of course. Helena was far from beautiful. At least, that was how she thought of herself. Whether or not that was true wasn't really her concern.

"Thank you, I'm Helena. So, what exactly am I looking for?" Lottie was probably an expert at these things. At the very least, she sounded like one. Helena thought it might be best to just follow her lead and go where she was told. You didn't argue with someone who knew what they were talking about, especially when you yourself did not.

Looking Helena over again following the question, Lottie tapped he red lips.

“With your hair and skin tone, you could pull off just about any colour, though I’d stear clear’a black or anything too dark. Might be a bit severe on you, and don’t want you lookin’ like you’re off to a funeral,” she said. After a moment of squinting at the girl, Lottie’s face suddenly brightened and she clapped her hands together. “Let’s start with cocktail dresses!”

Grabbing Helena’s hand, she pulled her around to the side of the store which contained rows and racks of short little numbers in every colour imaginable. “Oh, this green one is divine!” She tossed it at Helena, barely looking back at her. A purple and a blue one soon followed.

Helena quietly stared at Lottie. She clearly seemed to be deep in thought about all of this. She was a bit surprised by that. After all, it wasn't that difficult to pick clothes.....was it? Well, she was in a new place, and maybe things were more difficult than they were back home. She supposed it was possible. Then Lottie told her to avoid dark colors. So, she made a mental note to never wear them.

All she could do was utter an "Oof!" as Lottie took her hand and ran off with her. Then she started handing her dresses. Okay, she could do this. But, as she looked at them she noticed these were nothing like back home. That was something she'd have to accept. "I do rather like this blue one....and the purple one is intresting...." she was rather surprised she liked them.

Pausing in her shuffling through the rack, Lottie looked over it at Helena and clicked her tongue. “Now don’t sound so surprised. You need fashion advice and you couldn’t have stumbled upon someone better to help ya than Lottie LaBouff. My only condition is that you try on everythin’ I throw at you.”

To make her point, Lottie threw another dress into the growing pile in Helena’s arms. Walking around behind her, she pushed the taller girl gently toward the back of the store. “Let’s start with these so we have a base ta work with. Now get on in there and try them on. Shoo!”

Reaching the changing area, Lottie gave the girl one last shove into a dressing room and closed the curtain behind her in one fluid movement. Finding a chair outside, she flopped down into it. “I wanna see each and every one’a those, ya hear? Whether you like ‘em or not!” she called, studying one perfectly painted pink fingernail.

Helena just nodded. What started off already pretty overwhelming was becoming even more so with Lottie's help. Honestly, if her head weren't attached to her neck in the manner it was, her head would have been spinning. She was getting dragged all over the store for a dress. Was it really this hard?

When Lottie threw that next dress in her arms, Helena had to look over the pile to be able to see anything it seemed like. She supposed it would be worth it if she got out of this with some acceptable clothing to wear. She wobbled into the dressing room when Lottie pushed her, an oomph coming for her, quite sure she was going to fall over.

"Alright.." she picked up the first dress she saw, which ended up being the purple one. She cautiously walked out to her. "Well?"

Crossing one leg over the other, Lottie jiggled her foot in the air as she waited. She really did have the patience of a gnat, and a matching attention span. Luckily Helena was fast and she was out of the room in the first dress before Lottie could finish inspecting her nails for any chips in the varnish or unsightly hangnails.

Looking up, she gave the girl a cursory glance over, rising to her feet. Could she look any more nervous? It was not flattering at all.

“Stand up straight, shoulders back,” Lottie pressed her shoulders back. “You can’t slouch in a dress like this, honey, it just ruins the whole look. Now spin around so I can see the whole thing.” Without waiting, Lottie turned the girl around herself. “With the right accessories it has potential,” she continued to ramble. “Some diamonds, high heels... my, your legs really go all tha way up, don’t they? Put some heels on those puppies and you’ll look eight feet tall and all legs.”
