It was that time of year again. The highlight of his year and he had been preparing for it for months now.
The TRENALE COMICON!
It was amazing that it even came here, that it even reached the magical land of Trenale but the Grayle Corp had made it happen and no one was complaining. He certainly wasn’t. He could remember being as young as 4 and being taken to the comicon, Arthur used to bring them and ever since then he was hooked. He loved it, the stalls, the co splays the writers the…it was just BRILLIANT! And this year, oh this year it really was going to be brilliant.
He looked at himself in the mirror and straightened his bow tie, cause bow ties were cool, and stepped out of the bathroom in his eleventh doctor cosplay. “Well,” he said to his friends as they waited outside to go in to the hall, “what do you think?”
Eddie was thrilled, he could hardly believe his luck, here he was not only at the Trenale Comicon, but thanks to Gaston's desire to be the Doctor, he, Eddie Locksley, had actually been allowed to cosplay somebody cool.
Ok, so, Rory was cool in a totally uncool way, but he was still much better than most of the roles Eddie got stuck with, so he wore the roman armour with pride.
"Looking good, Doctor," Eddie grinned at his friend, giving him the thumbs up.
Meredith had contemplated being Amy Pond, but she hadn't dared buy a red wig for fear of Tristian taking it somehow personally (he was so touchy about being ginger, she didn't understand why) and besides, going as Amy when Eddie was Rory would be weird, they were married.
Gaston, on the other hand, she knew she could trust to not be weird about these things, since they were Han and Leia all the time, so she'd decided to be River Song instead.
"Hello sweetie," she grinned at Gaston as he walked out of the bathroom, knowing he'd find it funny "Looks great, now can we please actually go inside?"

Gwyn had no idea why she was here. Between her own personal training and the fact that she had joined pretty much every sports team and every physical extracurricular club going left her little time to waste watching television. All of this was only made worse recently because now she actually had to put time into studying and homework as her teachers had begun to threaten to fail her if she didn’t start putting an effort in. She had tried to argue with them, but it had only made things worse; apparently they did not appreciate her telling them that their classes were a waste of her valuable time. Sure, she could refuse to change, but if she failed and got kicked out of Tintagel then she wouldn’t get to do all the sports she had come to enjoy here, and she would have to leave all her friends behind and, worst of all, she would disappoint her father. This was not something she was used to doing; in fact, she didn’t recall him ever being disappointed in her and the very thought of it made her feel a bit ill.
So why was she here instead of back in her room studying? Mostly because she wanted to prove to herself that things between her and Gaston were alright, that they could still act normal around each other and that nobody else would even know that anything had happened. Gwyn just wished she had consulted the others about her costume. The only reason she had any idea about any of this stuff was because Eddie and Gaston were obsessed with it and more often than not she just tried to tune them out when they got talking about it... which was probably the main reason for her current costume disaster. She had heard them talking about going as some characters from a show that involved space travel, a doctor and a character named River who must have been part of a ship’s crew. Gwyn had wanted to surprise them all, because who would suspect she could come up with a costume for something like this on her own when she seemed so disinterested in it all? So she had done some research and decided that River was a character she could get behind, even if she was a small slip of a girl, which despite being small in stature Gwyn was certainly not. But she had managed to pull together a decent costume with the help of a classmate that found her rather intimidating. On contemplation she thought it might be a bit weird with Gaston playing the doctor instead of Eddie, since the doctor and River were siblings, but then she thought that maybe that was an excellent was to prove that everything was ‘cool’.
It was when Eddie had shown up at her door dressed as a Roman soldier that Gwyn started to get the feeling that something was wrong. Shouldn’t he have been dressed more like a cowboy? It was too late to change, though, and now here she was at a Sci-Fi convention with Eddie as a Roman, Meredith dressed as the correct River and Gaston as THE Docter, not A doctor.
Despite her sour mood at the failure of her plan, she had to admit that the bowtie was cute.

Gaston didn’t quite understand why his friend hadn’t taken his other suggestion but was happy that he was happy in his current costume. He had suggested that Eddie come as the charming and suave Captain Jack Harkness…and yet Eddie had come as Rory. He figured it must have been down to relate-ability. Eddie just had more in common with the Roman than with the time travelling immortal. It was a shame they didn’t have an Amy Pond however to team up with Eddie, that would have been perfect and it would have made his friend happy. There was bound to be an Amy pond at the convention…somewhere…
Meredith of course looked fantastic, but then she always looked no matter what she was clothed in. And of course, just to tug on those heart strings she was his opposite, as always. The Leia to his Hans, the Ginny to his Harry, and now the River to his Doctor. It didn’t seem to matter which canon they were cosplaying…Meredith always picked his opposite…he would have started reading in to it if he didn’t no better. He knew who she liked…and it most certainly wasn’t him, no matter what costume she was wearing.
“awww brilliant,” he said admiring her costume, “you got it perfect, even the hair and-OH MY GODDESS GWYN YOUR RIVER! TWO RIVERS!”
He almost skipped with happiness over to Gwyn, grinning from ear to ear and rambling, “Oh that’s perfect, that’s such a good cosplay, I mean I meant to get a hold of you and suggest you came as the female version of the TARDIS but this, this is brilliant! AND, AND, AND!…awwwwwwwww Now I wish I’d done Mal!”
Eddie, for his part, had decided that Gaston must have been joking when he suggested that he, Eddie, dress as Captain Jack, because he just wasn't cool enough. Anyway, it didn't make a lot of sense because Jack hadn't spent that much time with the eleventh Doctor, and Rory was a much better companion (ha) to Gaston's choice of cosplay.
His enthusiasm wilted slightly at Gaston's reaction though. It wasn't that he was expecting much, because Meredith was there dressed as River Song and he knew that would distract him, but then he got so excited about Gwyn's costume, and, ok, it was a good costume and everything and it was great that she was here and getting into the spirit of it but... well did she have to come and steal this too? Comics were his thing and Gaston was his friend, and there Gwyn was getting all his attention.
"I should have been Simon then," he commented half-heartedly.
"I suppose I'm already halfway to Zoe...or I could have been Inara... we'll definitely have to do Firefly next time, that's a great costume Gwyn!" She was actually quite proud of the other girl, even if she had got it wrong, the fact that she was really trying to get involved was good to see, and the costume was great - nobody ever said they had to be a group, even if they were now planning one.
"Now that we're done talking about how awesome all our costumes are - and they are - can we please actually go inside!" She'd already started moving as she spoke, trying to usher them towards the entrance to the actual hall. They could walk and talk surely, they had comics to buy, dealers to see, photos to take!

Gwyn’s sour mood instantly melted away when Gaston started making such a fuss over her costume, and she practically beamed back at him. She had no idea who Mal was, probably the main character considering Gaston’s track record, but the fact that he was wishing he had come dressed as someone from the same story as her gave her a definite sense of satisfaction and made her a little happier than it probably should have. Judging by Eddie’s remark, Simon must have been the doctor she had thought Gaston was dressing as, which rang a bell from the limited research she’d done. With Inara, though, Gwyn could only assume she was Mal’s love interest. See, the youngest Locksley wasn’t the most observant person around, especially when it came to human interaction, but it was impossible not to not that Meredith always seemed to choose the romantic counterpart to Gaston, though this observation and annoyance wasn’t for the reasons one might assume. Not really knowing any of these characters, it was only from the awkward situations that arose that Gwyn started to notice. Halloween had been all well and good when they had dressed like the Scooby Gang, but afterwards she had discovered that not only were the two main characters often an item, but more recently there had been a cartoon where Velma and Shaggy were as well, which were her and her brother’s characters.
Of course she had punched the kid who had dared make fun of her for it.
Then there was the whole Harry Potter fiasco, which Gwyn would rather not remember. It had seemed simple enough: three main characters, two boys and a girl, and three of them: Gaston, Eddie and Meredith; but did Meredith choose Hermoine? No, she’d had to pick some random non-character that apparently hadn’t even been important until the end. So of course this had gotten Gwyn to thinking, and she had come up with one question that vexed her: what was the girl’s problem with Eddie? Why couldn’t she even bring herself to play his character’s love interest for only a few short hours? They didn’t even have to act the parts, they just had to look like them! And it wasn’t like it meant anything, they were just dressing up, so why the absolute refusal to be tied to her brother like that? What was wrong with Eddie? He was a good looking boy, had tonnes of friends, he was nice to everyone, very protective of his friends and family... Meredith would only be so lucky to even pretend to be his girlfriend! Not that Gwyn would ever admit to such nice thoughts about her brother, but while she was allowed to tease him, nobody else was, and this was worse than teasing. Sure, he was into stupid stuff that she didn’t understand, but so was Meredith, so what was the problem? She could have just asked the girl, she supposed, but Gwyn didn’t really have any other female friends and putting a strain on that relationship probably wasn’t a good idea. So instead she just stewed in silence and took solace in the fact that just for a moment Gaston had forgotten all about Meredith and her matching costume just to fawn all over Gwyn’s mistake.
“I guess I could keep it for another time,” she offered, still grinning. Because despite any inner issues she might have with Meredith, this was going to be a good evening, she could tell. This right here was all the proof she needed that Gaston wasn’t upset with her; he hadn’t screwed up everything by asking her out, and she hadn’t done the same by turning him down. Twirling one of her fake yet impressive looking blades around, she started to follow Meredith. “Well, it’s why we’re here.”

“You definitely have to keep that one,” he said to Gwyn before turning to Eddie and Meredith and saying, “and yes, and yes. Do you think we could convince Tris to be Wash, they are both ginger after all…I feel it may be a futile effort. Anyway, definitely Firefly next time! ‘kay?”
Reaching in to the inside pocket of his coat he said, “Hang on a minute, you’re not going to get very far without these.”
He pulled out the tickets and handed them out to teach of them before holding an arm out on either side, “Well come along Rivers, and Mr Pond. To the Convention!”
Eddie took his ticket cautiously, making sure to keep tight hold of it - the reason Gaston had been in charge of the tickets in the first place, as well as it all being his idea, was because Eddie was useless with that sort of thing and he couldn't be trusted to keep track of his own ticket without losing it.
"Lead on Doctor!" he waved the hand holding the ticket, nearly dropped it, fumbled for it and missed, then had to bend over and pick it up.
"Got it!" he grinned cheerfully, holding it up triumphantly. Being so clumsy had stopped really bothering Eddie, so he was just cheered up when it had a happy ending.
Meredith took her ticket with a little nod of thanks, keeping it hold of it just as Eddie had, only she did so because they needed to show them momentarily, not out of any fear of losing it. She shook her head in amusement when the boy nearly dropped his ticket, he really couldn't be trusted with anything, could he?
"Careful, dad," she grinned, patting him on the back with a chuckle. Eddie was clumsy and awkward but he was their friend and they wouldn't have him any other way.

Taking her ticket, Gwyn would have stowed it away if she had any pockets to do so, but seeing as everyone else was keeping theirs in hand she held tight to hers instead. Of course Eddie couldn’t do something so simple and between him fumbling and dropping his ticket and Meredith calling him ‘Dad’ (because apparently she didn’t find that weird or offensive) Gwyn couldn’t help but roll her eyes.
“So your character really doesn’t have a name? You’re just ‘Doctor’?” she asked Gaston as she took his proffered arm. Just like always, nothing uncomfortable. She could finally stop worrying about their relationship and disliking herself for all things he’d made her realise about herself. Instead she could focus on... whatever awaited her through those doors. She was going to go out on a limb and guess a lot of people in costumes she didn’t get, ‘freaking out’ over people she didn’t know who were in television shows she had never seen. Brilliant.

Eddie was one of Gaston’s closest friends, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t going to laugh when he nearly dropped his ticket. Classic Eddie. As Meredith didn’t take the other proffered arm and assumed that she would be walking in with Eddie he dropped it and turned to look at Gwyn as they headed in to the convention centre, “Well he has a name, but we don’t know that yet, but then that’s the whole point, Doctor Who?” he said and grinned before he realised he would need to do a bit more filling in because it was Gwyn, “That’s the name of the television series, Doctor Who? Because he just calls himself the Doctor. So yeah, that’s me, the Doctor.”
He grinned before turning his head to face Eddie and Meredith saying, “Which by the way I totally think Moffat should just stay away from that whole what’s the doctor’s name thing. You can totally tell he’s going for it next series, but I mean come on, that’s the best thing about the Doctor! Don‘t you think?”
"Yea totally," Eddie agreed quickly. He agreed with Gaston most of the time anyway, but also he was having mixed feelings about seeing his best friend walking arm-in-arm with Gwyn. There was a stirring of protectiveness for Gwyn, but also a lot of jealousy for how friendly they were being. As far as Eddie was concerned, there was no chance that Gwyn could possibly come away from this experience not wanting to get into all the nerdy stuff, comic con was amazing, and then she'd be hanging around with them all the time...
"I bet he'll build it all up and then find a way to avoid actually saying it at the last second, because he knows that as well as the fans do, he'll get us all interested and then snatch it away," the only time Eddie could sound remotely intelligent was when he was talking about geeky things.
"Well we do sort of know his name," Meredith said thoughtfully "I mean they've brought it up a couple of times, the whole greek letters thing, and we know he was called Theta Sigma, but I think that was a university nickname if I remember rightly... it's so hard to keep track on Who, there's so much of it," she laughed slightly.
"Eddie's probably right though," she added after a moment "I bet they'll not actually tell us, they'll find a way to answer 'who' without it being his name. It'll be another description or something. I think it would be fun to find out, but I bet there's plenty of people that really don't want to."
