personality: They say the gods are capricious, and being the goddess of the moon, Artemis is as ever-changing as the tides. Gone is the bubbly-but-often-dim Artemis that some Avalonians may remember, the new Artemis is much darker, much fiercer, and much wilder. She's not cruel, she's just uncaring, blunter with people she doesn't think worth her time, and that covers most mortals unless they're exceptionally good at hunting. She spends a lot of her time in the forests, hunting, or simply enjoying nature, and is most often seen at night. Some might call her evil, but to do so would be to misunderstand the nature of the gods, she is neither good nor evil, she simply is, she does her job and thinks mostly of herself, she is a goddess after all.
appearance: Artemis's form is best described as 'athletic', or perhaps 'toned', though people who aren't looking too closely might just think of her as another skinny young girl - there's definitely plenty of muscle tone there, especially in her arms, since she's so used to using a bow.
She's pretty - she is a goddess, after all - with good, clear skin and sparkling eyes and all that classic beauty stuff, but she doesn't really pay much attention to it, more than happy to let her hair stay mussed and throw on whatever first comes to hand on a morning.
Though she can have her feminine moments, Artemis is mostly a tomboy, happy to run around with her brother and getting stuck in, particularly when it comes to hunting, so it's not unusual for her to end up rather grubby, and choose clothing for function rather than fashion.
history: Artemis and Apollo's birth could have been a pretty difficult affair, for Hera had forbidden any 'terra firma' (the mainland), or island, to allow Leto (their mother) to give birth there, she was so angry at Zeus for the pregnancy.
Luckily for the twins, the island of Delos was discovered - a floating island that was neither terra firma, nor a true island, and Leto was able to give birth there.

Artemis was born first, and in that special way gods have of twisting the fabric of reality, she was then able to become her mother's midwife, and deliver Apollo, which is part of the reason she's so fiercely protective of him.

Hera was not happy the twins were born, and sent monsters after their mother to kill her - the first killed by Apollo, the second by both Apollo and Artemis.

Despite Hera's hatred of practically her whole family, Artemis lived a relatively happy life, and was close with her brother and father - when she was younger, anyway.

When she was three, she asked her father, Zeus, for six wishes. To be chaste for all eternity (oh, she laments now, the follies of youth, though she still guards her chastity closely), and to never be confine by marriage. She also asked for lop eared hounds, stags to lead her chariot, nymphs to be her hunting companions, and a silver bow like Apollo's. Her wishes were granted - though she has left the hounds, stags and companions back at Olympus instead of bringing them to Avalon.

Artemis spent most of her time hunting with her companions and generally having a grand old time of it - though occasionally she came up against people (usually men) who incurred her wrath - usually by boasting about their hunting prowess, and she concocted several imaginative punishments to get her revenge - usually involving wild animals.

Artemis is the goddess of hunting, virginity (but also fertility and childbirth, go figure), forests and hills, and the moon.

Artemis came to Avalon/Tintagel with her brother pretty much on a whim.
