Dusty giggled a Tristian looked over her shoulder to catch a glimpse at Jose. Maybe he would have another admirer in the Prince. That would be pretty funny and unexpected to have Tristian as another of the admirers.
Dusty nodded at the new information. "Wait, I thought a knight errant was a bad knight. Like, an evil one." She nodded again. "Questing sounds fun."
Hanging out with Tristian want something that she has ever planned on, but it sounded kinda nice. "That sounds like a good plan." She took the phone and very careful poked the screen in the correct places to input her information. It took her some time since she still wasn't used to phones, but once her information was all correctly in there an she has double checked it was correct, she handed the phone back. "There. All set."
Distracted again from his trying to catch a glimpse of this Jose he said, “Hmm, what? Oh no, not evil, a Knight-Errant is someone who is still attempting to complete their test of mettle to become a fully-fledged knight.”
He then realised that further explanation may be required, “a Test of mettle is something that a King or Queen will set an aspiring knight to test whether they are worthy of becoming one of their knights. Each test is different and very much depends on the person setting it. For example my father prefers test of chivalry, something that will prove the noble qualities of the knight, whereas my mother tends to set tests that challenge the ‘weakness’ of that person to see how they overcome it.”
He realised, that at this point he was probably boring the young woman, “in any case, can’t be a knight until you’ve passed the test. It’s my goal to pass both my father’s and my mother’s test to be a knight of both domains.”
Taking his phone back he said, “great, I’ll give you call when I finish class and we can hit the shops.”
He finished off the last of his breakfast and took out his wallet, “just out of curiosity…and apologies if this comes off as rude, but…where is you’re from?”
A test of mettle sounded awful strange to Dusty, but she supposed that they had to test out if a knight was good enough to be a knight. And maybe it made sense. What other kind of test would they have? Dusty was willing to bet that it wouldn't be a written test. "Huh. Does that mean you can't be a knight at all then if you don't pass both tests?"
Dusty smiled and nodded. "Looking forward to it."
She turned to assist another customer but turned back as she heard Tristian speaking again. "Oh, I get that all the time. It's the accent, ain't it?" she asked. Lots of customers came into the diner and asked where she was from. "I'm from a little town called Los Avalos. Its in Arizona territory in the United States of America," she explained. It was easier to explain everything all at once then to explain the bits and pieces individually.
