Oh how sorrowful this beautiful young man looked, he was clearly affected by Apollo’s pain, and as such he was pleased. Every good performer liked to think they were emotionally connecting with their audience; it was good to see that first hand sometimes. He nodded enthusiastically and said, “I will gladly tell you of my handsome Apple!”
Moving off to walk around the staff room again he said, “he is tall and thin, just a little on the lanky side, in fact very on the lanky side, it’s so adorable, the way he walks, like a little baby ostrich. And lovely floppy chestnut brown hair, oh and those glasses, those big round glasses he wears, oh! I could stare into them for eternity, and those eyes…so beautiful…”
He sighed, and then turned to face Mercutio, “I think you for your help handsome mortal, however, this chase is mine, this hunt is mine. If I am to finally win the heart of my beloved Apple, I must first prove myself worthy, and I shall do so my chasing until he is mine.”
This was all too easy. If fact, it was so easy Hermes nearly thought Apollo may have recognized him and was merely feeding him lies. Normally he'd feel extremely confident in his ability to tell lie from truth, but he'd forgotten the way this place made him feel. It was like certain pieces of him were being cast in shadow. It wasn't terribly noticeable unless he focused on it too hard. Thankfully, he needn't dwell because there was no way his brother had seen though his tricks. It wasn't in Apollo's nature to see the snake behind the pretty face. Apollo liked pretty things. Hermes was pretty now and had a knew name. Why should Apollo look for something he didn't want to see. Hermes almost felt like this was the plan all along the way it was working out so well.
Lanky, brown hair, glasses, funny walk. Hermes added the new notes to his list. He had plenty now to find this man, even if his name wasn't really Apple. Hermes smiled gently at Apollo, forgivingly, as his brother continued to pine. He tried to appear understanding if not a bit envious of Apollo's love. Which was definitely not a real feeling he was having. What was there to be envious of? Apollo was up to his eyeballs in some lame obsession, undoubtedly brought on by Hermes' sons careful arrows. Hermes wanted nothing to do with love. Pleasure, sure, but not fun. He had a new face now and hopefully a whole new crop of mortals to seduce. There wasn't anyone particular one he was hoping to run into either. Why would anyone think that? He was a free being. He could not be tied down by that terrible and horridly stubborn bond.
"Alright" Hermes sigh, acting disappointed. This was his cue to exit. He was starting to feel strange anyhow, all this talk of love making him feel weary. "I supposed I'll just have to be patient" he said, with an honest twinkle in his eye. Although he was not talking about waiting on Apollo's love like he hoped his brother would take it, he was thinking on how he'd feel once the trap had sprung. He was like an animal lining up behind his prey. In no time at all, Hermes will have taken this little Apple away from his brother merely for the look of outer outrage on his face. Who was he to deserve this kind of affection anyhow? Who was he t deserve a Little Apple when the rest of the world truly suffered in love.
“And wait you shall my Mercutio,” said Apollo although the drama seemed to be ebbing from his tone, “until my Apple is back within my grasp.”
He crossed over to Mercutio, an unnaturally serious expression on his face, and placed a heavy hand on his shoulder, “however fear not, my attention will no doubt turn back to you once I have found my Apple. Although…I cannot say now for what purpose. I have not felt this way about anyone before…well…not as far back as I can remember…which is fairly far back.”
He grinned, all drama and seriousness disappearing, he patted the mans shoulder and said, “I will leave you now to your exploring as I continue my own hunt…oooh…maybe…yes…she could help. Were they friends once? Yes! I shall speak too…oh me, what was her name again?...Alison…Amanda…Alyss! Yes! I shall speak to Alyss. Good bye Mercutio.”
Blah blah blah. Apple this, Apple that. Hermes had all the information he needed. it was time to blow this popsicle stand. Apollo was so quick to reveal his true feelings. This made him such an easy target for all these years. Hermes would never do that. Usually his intentions were greatly veiled unless he was certain that the person he was talking to could do nothing to foil him even if they knew any part of his plan. Hermes would never come out and admit such devotion to one person because he considered the very idea a weakness. Apollo was weak with lovesickness and he’d left himself vulnerable to whatever misdeeds Hermes could come up with. He deserved it for being so foolish.
Hermes tried to stay strong and hold steady as his brother put another hand on his shoulder. Ick. No touchy. He nodded slowly, solemnly, as his brother told him he’d have to wait. Yeah right, by the time Apollo was done with this ‘Apple’ Hermes will have made a grand reveal of his true identity. Just this misguided flirtation was enough to make Hermes think of the look of Apollo’s face when he told him who he was and grin internally.
Jez. Apollo really could go on about this guy. In fact there was a certain look in Apollo’s eyes that made him a bit uncomfortable. He was a bit too serious, too honest. Hermes couldn’t recall Apollo speaking this way about other men. It was almost enough to put a shadow of doubt in his plan, but not quite.
Apollo looked like he was getting ready to leave. Just as well, Hermes didn’t have to find a kind way to excuse himself. He was already lost in thought how where to begin his search and Hermes had begun to lose himself in his own schemes when a single name shocked him back to reality.
Alyss?
She was here? Hermes had wondered about her since the war but couldn’t bare trying to check in. He had spent a good long time trying to forget that name and then his brother of all people just mentioned it in passing right before he left. He wasn’t smart enough to have done it on purpose. He was going to see her?! Well that’s just fine. All the more reason to find his brother’s Apple.
