Gwyn Locksley... Lorelei didn't even have to check her notes for that one. She could remember her from the visits to Camelot... and maybe the Summer Country. Of course, Lorelei (was definitely not) was hidden from sight most of the time, so Gwyn might not remember her. It didn't take Lorelei long to jump on the opportunity though, snatching the flyer and hurrying to Gwyn's room.
She knocked, beating out a little beat from a song she'd heard, waited just for the door to open, all but vibrating with excitement. The moment it did; "I'm Lorelei! And I'm good at maths and science!"

Gwyn sat at her desk, cheek propped on her hand; her textbook was open but her eyes were not. She had stayed up half the night studying for a test she had barely passed, and tomorrow there would be another. Why so many? She had been struggling enough before she'd gone home, and now it seemed impossible. Thankfully 'impossible' was not a word she ever applied to anything in her life.
Suddenly a knock sounded at her door and Gwyn woke with a snort, her head slipping off her hand. Blinking in confusion a moment, she wiped her mouth and got lazily to her feet before trudging to the door. Opening it, she was taken aback by the shrill, excited greeting and immediately closed the door again in the other girl's face.
Wait... maths and science?
Slowly she opened the door again and peered out skeptically. “Maths and science?”

The door closed. Lorelei paused for a moment, squinting at the door, willing it to open up again. She didn't think her magic would actually cause that to happen, but this was a school where weird stuff happened all the time and--
Door open!
"Maths and science!" Lorelei repeated, bobbing her head. "I'm good at them. Really, really good. Also my name is Lorelei, and you're Gwyn. Gwyn Locksley. Middle child of Robin Locksley, right? And the super awesome one, right? Like, wow," Lorelei reached toward Gwyn, then pulled back, obviously figuring that there was a line there that should not be crossed. "I'm Lorelei, by the way. I'm good at maths and science... which is why I'm here. Because you're not. Or, well, maybe you are? You're good at lots of things? Maybe you were just hoping for a tutor for... reasons...?" Lorelei paused, considering. "I mean, I don't think I've been with a girl before, but I mean..." Lorelei gestured at Gwyn, as if that was an obvious answer to the question.

Boy, this girl was perky. Gwyn almost overlooked that when she laid on the flattery, but she had to go make that one little mistake that only put Gwyn in a darker mood. “Youngest, actually,” she corrected. Youngest of three now, not the two she had grown up believing. Her family wasn't supposed to have a middle child, but now poor Eddie was stuck with that title. From first born and heir to the middle child.
Eyeing the girl's erratic movements, Gwyn stared at her as she went on and on before ending in a confusing manner that was completely lost on her. The poster in her hand would have been sufficient explanation, really. “Yes, I'm looking for h-... I'm looking for a bit of assistance in my studies.” It physically hurt to admit, it really did. Opening the door further, she stepped aside. “Please, come in. I assume since you're hear that you don't only tutor boys.” It had seemed like a strange thing to say, that she'd never tutored girls, but perhaps girls were just smarter and didn't need the help as much.

"Youngest? Man, my notes must be out of date or---I mean, right, sorry, I didn't mean to, like, insult your family's honor or something," Lorelei dropped into an almost pitch perfect courtly curtsy for a moment, before realizing that they were on the tutoring thing. And it sounded like Gwyn actually wanted tutoring. That actually surprised Lorelei, since what she thought she knew said that this Locksley was just super awesome extra special amazing at, like, everything (which, considering that there were days when putting on clothes was an issue for Lorelei really hit her, like, whoa).
"Oh, I'm totally down with tutoring either gender, really. I'd sometimes get let out of my little hidey hole to help tutor some of the kids back in my home castle and stuff. So I've got a pretty good handle of the whole tutoring thing," she slid inside, eyes going wide as she stared around the room. Wow! Here just a short while and already she was seeing the inside of the room of Gwyn Locksley! Lorelei swore she was about ready to wet herself.

“Or completely wrong,” Gwyn pointed out. She had always been the youngest. Even with the addition of a new brother, she was still the youngest. Honestly, this girl wanted to teach her? And now she was curtsying for some reason. Gwyn was starting to think she had made a big mistake, but she had already invited the girl in, and she couldn't be that rude as to just throw her out again.
“I was called home for some time and am now behind in my classes,” she decided to jump right in, making excuses as she went. She was someone concerned about the 'hidey hole' comment, as it sounded like the girl had been held somewhere, possibly against her will, and that was not something Gwyn stood for, but she seemed free enough now so perhaps a past horror she might not want to get into. “I simply need assistance in catching up so I do not need to limit my involvement on any of the sports teams nor my time training.” Not entirely true, her grades already hadn't been great, but more because she found many of her classes annoying wastes of time and didn't pay as much attention as she should.

Completely wrong, huh, Lorelei would have to make note of that. Gwyn just acted a lot like a middle child, but then again, it wasn't like Lorelei's notes were always right. Maybe she'd invented a younger Locksley kid at some point for her fanfiction? Lorelei tried to remember, and she seemed to vaguely recall making up one that might have been about her age around the time when she really wanted playmates and was utterly terrified of most of her Gaston-related siblings (because Tristian was always too good for her).
Wait, classes, right, tutoring. Lorelei nodded as if she'd been paying attention the whole time, refocusing back on Gwyn proper. "That definitely makes sense. It's not like someone like you would be behind in courses or anything, since you're, well, y'know you more than I know you so you would definitely know what you are," Lorelei's head bobbed, before looking around. "The first thing to do to really set it up is to start working ways of getting it into your schedule. Set up some specific time for tutoring, much like you would if, like, you were working on your horsemanship or archery skills. If you're not purposefully blocking off time it just becomes some kind of side thing you do on your own."
Lorelei looked around again, before glancing back at Gwyn. "Are you bunking with someone?"

Gwyn was starting to believe she might need a tutor just to understand her potential current one. Of course she knew herself better than anyone else did, what a dumb statement. Sure, she was pretty much an open book, but she still new herself better, everyone knew themselves better.
At least Lorelei had something better to offer after that. What she said about scheduling actually made a lot of sense. Schedules and routines were important, and she would definitely catch up quicker if she penciled the tutoring in and therefore had no excuse to miss it. Perhaps this girl might work out after all.
“Yes, I have a roommate,” Gwyn answered with a sigh, “But she's rarely here.” She thought about it for a moment. “Actually, I haven't seen her since I returned.” They hadn't exactly gotten along well, and the girl had taken to staying with her boyfriend in town more often than not. Maybe she had finally just decided to move out. That would certainly suit Gwyn just fine.

"Huh," Lorelei said, noting the mention of the roommate. She'd noticed that there did seem to be a shuffle; people moving around, seeming to adjust to something. But since she'd pretty much just arrived, it wasn't like she could really tell that much of a difference. Lorelei searched the room again, wondering if there was a place that they could use as a study area or set up.
"It's also probably a good idea to sort of set up an area. Like, set aside the time and space, and when you're there at the designated time, you're totally in study mode. Should help you focus, since I'm betting your mind's on, like, lots of stuff at once," Lorelei paused again, studying a bit of something in the room with the sort of intent someone like her is quite capable of. "Did the teachers set you up for this something?" she asked, looking back at Gwyn. "Because most people wouldn't be all 'I need a tutor' without help, and they definitely wouldn't let me in their rooms without, like, some sort of outside pressure." She smiled at that, well aware of how... enjoyable she could be.

It was a little weird having someone in her place, poking about her things and sizing the place up. Crossing her arms over her chest, she watched the girl closely, waiting for any indication of what she was supposed to do here.
When Lorelei spoke again she spoke sense. Don't just set aside a time to study, but a particular place as well. Yes, that would help her get into the zone. Bed was for sleeping, gym for training, so she needed a place to study as well. At the question that followed, Gwyn nodded, seeing no point in lying. She rarely did. “Yes. The guidance counselor 'strongly advised' that I get a tutor. I was away a full month, that is a lot of work to miss, and he seemed concerned I would not catch up otherwise.”
Gwyn had tried to protest at the time, but the threats that she could get expelled if she started failing her classes was enough to make her follow the suggestion. She could not bear her parents' disappointment if she failed, nor did she want to lose the opportunities this place had to offer. “I assume I am meant to pay you something for your services? What do you charge?”

"That sucks," said Lorelei, wincing a little upon hearing that. "It would totally happen to anyone though. Like, I do nothing but study peee-books. Not pee-books, but just the regular, not urinated upon kind. Lots of studying here. So that's what makes me a great study partner."
Lorelei let out a nervous laugh, looking around the room again. Please come up with something to distract from pee-books. Lorelei had said a lot of stupid things, but that probably ranked near the top of the list. Yes, there was a list; it was long.
"What? Oh, uh, I mean, you don't really have to,' said Lorelei. "I guess if you wanted to, that would be awesome, but, like, I'm mostly just doing it because it's the Right Thing to Do." You could literally hear the capital letters.

The reassurance was nice, though Gwyn never liked being compared to 'anyone'. She wasn't sure what to make of 'pee-books', though. If it wasn't what it sounded like, then what else could it possibly mean? Why not just books? Why not study all books? “Well, none of my books have been urinated on as far as I know.” Could it be a slight joke? Maybe? Gwyn wasn't good at jokes, but what else was there to say on the topic? This girl was certainly strange.
And why did she keep looking around? It was starting to make Gwyn very uncomfortable.
Well, at least her heart was in the right place. Robin Hood had built his life upon the Right Thing to Do. People were suffering, so he helped them, giving up his title and turning outlaw. He fought for them, fed them, gave them everything he could, and asked nothing in return. The people did return, though. They protected him, lied for him, admired him. All good deeds deserved some reward, especially the ones that expected none in return.
“Then I will make you an offer,” Gwyn replied, finally offering a small smile. “I can pay you in money, or trade in services. Archery, combat; any of the sports offered here at this school.”

At least Lorelei's awkward awkwardness wasn't driving Gwyn away or making her send Lorelei away, or, well, not just yet. Lorelei kept waiting for the almost too cool to exist Locksley girl to be all "I cannot stand being in your presence, you strange fool" and dismiss her. So far it hadn't happened, but that didn't mean it wasn't about to with the next wrong word.
Which made Lorelei extra surprised and happy when Gwyn made a counter-offer. "Um, I'm not sure that I really need combat training," she said, frowning. "I got some from my dad, but it's not like I'm going to be getting into sword fights around campus or something, right?" she let out a nervous laugh, trying to even picture a set of circumstances in which she would possibly need that. Still, could she really pass up getting archery lessons from a Locksley? Particularly the cool, female Locksley who radiated raw awesomeness?
"Archery would be pretty cool though," suggested Lorelei, trying to sound completely casual.

Hmm, it was interesting to hear that this girl had some combat training. People always went up a notch in Gwyn's good graces when she discovered they weren't completely useless in a fight. “One would hope not,” Gwyn answered, “but I have heard strange stories of this school from my parents, so it certainly can't hurt to be prepared. Just don't go looking to start a fight.”
Apparently the fight often came to you here, in the form of magic spells or evil beings. It was rarely the other students that one needed to worry about.
Ultimately, Gwyn was pleased that Lorelei chose archery. Not only was it Gwyn's favourite skill, but it would give her more chance to show off, which was always a plus in her book. That, and trading skills in general was much more interesting than paying for her teachings, and would make her even more keen to do well in her studies. “I believe we have a deal, then?” She held her hand out for the other girl to shake.
