Tristian listened to Eddie’s rant with some amusement although knew better than to let that amusement show. It would probably only serve to make him feel even worse, and for some reason Tristian was not inclined to make the poor boy feel bad. What was wrong with him? He was losing his edge. He was also ashamed to note that he recognised many of the references that Eddie was making. You couldn’t grow up with his father, Meredith and Gaston Jr without picking this sort of thing up, and if he was being completely honest…he liked it too.
“Well…perhaps it’s a redemption arc,” said Tristian as he looked over the kite for any signs of damage, “maybe he was brought up on the dark side, but perhaps there is some potential there for goodness, and meeting you and Gwyn is his chance to redeem himself and throw of the dark teachings of his mentor.”
Oh for goodness sake, he sounded ridiculous…he sounded like…he scrunched up his nose in disgust…his dad.
“Come on,” said Tristian moving off with the kite, “pick up the ends of the string over there, we’ll lay it out and then I’ll tell you what to do ok?”

"Maybe..." Eddie said doubtfully. He didn't want to get in the way of a cool anti-hero redemption arc, but he also didn't want Richard to have a cool anti-hero redemption arc because Richard already got all the looks and the charm and the skill and just swanned in to steal the whole eldest son and heir thing from him, and he totally didn't deserve the cool storyline... but he'd also feel bad if he was the person that gave up on him when he totally had a chance to help him redeem himself.
He was glad when Tristian brought the focus back to the kite, shaking away the worrying thoughts about Richard and running overly - blessedly without falling - to grab the strings as instructed.
