Meredith was probably right, especially about Tristian.
“I’m not sure who would have the higher standards though, mum or Tris?” said Gaston Jr with a grin, “I mean, given what I’ve heard about Tristian he can be very, very picky. Come to think of it, how does someone with a reputation like his, also get the reputation of being picky? How does he even do that? Just last week I saw him fending off the advances of some brunette in my maths class, and then just yesterday I heard the same girl talk about the truly wonderful date that she had Tris had gone on…with far more detail than I ever wanted. How does he do that?”
If it wasn’t so embarrassing and if he didn’t think his brother would mock him relentlessly, he would have asked him for some advice in that regards. As it was, he didn’t think his self-esteem could take it at the moment.
“I don’t know, those Spiders are pretty tough,” said Gaston teasingly before switching back to something more conversational, “yeah Eddie’s free, unless that girl Nancy’s found him and asked him out.”
Gaston Jr frowned and nodded, “yeah of course he likes girls. He’s got a massive crush on Lena Heady.”

"I long ago gave up trying to figure out how Tris does anything," Meredith said sagely "I don't understand it either. Sometimes I think girls make it up just to get popular, but it's so hard to decide if they have or if Tris is just that bad, I mean one time I heard him telling Mordred about his night with some girl called Emma and it was the same day that Charlotte was boasting about going on a date with him, so who knows. I think he just likes to play games."
"Oh, well he's your best friend, you'd know... I just always sort of thought maybe he had a crush on you, he does follow you around a lot, and he does think you're just about the coolest person in the world."
“A crush on me?!” said Gaston Jr and burst out laughing, “Eddie?! You’ve clearly never been in his room in Tintagel, if you had been in there you would definitely know where his interests lie. But me?! Ha! Nah, he thinks I’m the coolest because he hasn’t met many people yet, no doubt one day someone will tell him the truth.”
He wondered where she got that idea from. Lorelei probably. Was this insanity infectious, he really was going to have to speak to his sister about this.
A thought occurred to him and said, “wait…did you…did you think I was in to Eddie?”

"Well, no, I haven't been in his room," she admitted "But I always just thought he had a bit of a crush on you, the way he looked up to you so much. And don't put yourself down!" she nudged him in the shoulder "You are an awesome person, of course he thinks you're really cool. Remember, Eddie's dad is Robin Hood, Eddie knows what cool is."
"No!" She laughed, and ok maybe it was a tiny bit forced because maybe every now and again she couldn't help but wonder, the two of them were awfully close and Gaston did idolise Han Solo quite a lot and maybe... but it was quite obvious from the way he said it that she was wrong, and she thought better than to admit to it "You love Princess Leia too much to be into Eddie, although I don't know, maybe if he wore the gold bikini..." she teased.
He felt that warm sensation in his chest that he always felt when ever Meredith complimented, and he knew, he knew his cheeks would be turning red. “Awww…thanks Meredith,” he said with a bashful shrug.
However a look of horror crossed his face when she brought up Eddie in a gold bikini, he stared at her and said, “What did I do to you for you to hurt me like this? My mind is tainted forever with that image! What have you done?!”
“That’s all of them Gaston,” said Todd from the till with a foot high of pile of comics.
Gaston grinned and headed over to the counter, taking out his wallet, “thanks Todd,” looking back to Meredith as he paid and said, “well, that’s me sorted for the rest of the week. I better go make a start on them before Eddie accidently spoilers me. But, I’ll see you at the game?”

"Well it's true" she told him seriously. Both him and Eddie needed to be reminded of their good points occasionally, not so much they got big headed of course, but enough that they had a little bit of confidence that might help them make friends or meet girls.
It was also fun to taunt them, and she cackled maniacally at the mental image she'd now given Gaston. Technically it wasn't even a bad one, all awkwardness aside Eddie was a good looking guy, and sure the outfit would need a few modifications to not look ridiculous but... well... but then Gaston apparently was straight, or at least definitely not interested in Eddie.
"Have fun," she laughed waving goodbye "Yea, I'll see you there." she stayed where she was until he left the shop, waiting for just a few moments more before turning and grabbing her abandoned present, deciding it was best to buy it now before any further mishaps.
