personality: Merlin is incredibly nice, that's pretty much the best way to describe him, he always likes to think the best of people (though he's not an idiot, he won't be fooled twice) and tries to help wherever he can, he cares very strongly for all his friends and would pretty much do anything for them, putting them very often even before himself. He's very intelligent, but he's happy to play the fool to hide just how talented his brain or magic can be - this has subsided somewhat since coming to Avalon, now that more people know about his magic and he's not living with the threat of execution for using it. He can be quite sarcastic and cheeky, but rarely in a mean way. He does have a nasty streak though, he isn't always forgiving once people have crossed him, and he's got the power to back it up. He tries to surpress that part of himself, knowing it leads to badness (hate leads to the dark side and all that), but sometimes it slips out.
appearance: Merlin's not exactly traditionally handsome, but he definitely has his charms, if that mussy black hair and big blue eyes don't get you, his cheeky smile will. He's tall and a little bit gangly, and his ears are on the large side, but it works for him - probably because he's really not one to care about his appearance. He's usually dressed quite flatteringly, but only because Gwen controls his wardrobe, and most of the time he'll just grab and throw on whatever's there. He'll keep clean as much as he can (being Arthur's manservant can be dirty work) but not exactly tidy.
history: Merlin was born in a perfectly ordinary little village called Ealdor, but he wasn't a perfectly ordinary little boy. Growing up with just his mother and his best friend Will, his childhood was generally uneventful - apart from that pesky magic of course. By the time his mother sent him to Camelot, he was already used to hiding it (though that didn't stop him using it when necessary), he set up home with the court physician, Gaius, his uncle, but wasted no time getting himself in trouble with a certain Crown Prince. Of course that meant he had to get a job as the Prince's manservant, and thus their incredibly rocky start was sealed. Many near-misses and magical scrapes later and they were both sent to Avalon, which began a tale too long to share here. Long story short, the two grew closer, all the secrets betweenn them were revealed, and Merlin fell inexplicably and irrevocably in love...
