sleepless nights and early mornings - ROGER

Snow rolled over onto her back with a heavy sigh, trying hard to force sleep away from herself. She stared up at the ceiling of the living room, stretching to the point that her feet ended up over the arm of the couch, opposite of the one her head was currently against with a pillow between. Her back ached slightly from sleeping on the couch, but she'd been up half the night and hadn't wanted to wake up Roger.

Sitting up, she tugged on her robe from last night as well, over her usual pajamas. A hand came up to tug through her bedhead curls as she moved toward the kitchen in search of coffee for the morning. Her stomach was still protesting meekly, but she steadied it with one hand and ended up grabbing a glass of orange juice instead. The smell of coffee suddenly made her ill - she knew why of course, but the last thing she needed was to get sick again.

Settled with orange juice, she returned to the living room and curled up under her blankets from last night with a heavy sigh. She was exhausted, and was pretty sure it had been the longest night ever. Well, one of them. One hand thrown over her stomach, sne turned on her left side and buried her face into the pillow, waiting for Roger to wake up.

While Snow was clearly not proving to be a morning person, Roger was...well, frankly? It was a miracle that you got Roger to actually settle into a good night's sleep at all. Seriously, the guy was on a permanent sugar high, it seemed like, even when he was upset. Even then he was bursting with energy, putting it all in a rather melodramatic fit of tears. Thankfully, today? That was not the case. The minute the sun started peeking its little head out of the horizon, Roger leaped out of his bed. "Good morning world!" he announced, brushing his bangs out of his eyes before looking beside him, where he had expected to catch a glimpse of his wonderful princess...

Except the bed was a little bit empty for that.

"Uh, Snow?" Not that Roger was the panicking type. C'mon now, he was sure there was a perfectly good explanation as to why she wasn't there....right?

Needless to say, the former cartoon burst through the door in a mild frenzy that was quickly calmed when he caught a glimpse of his Snow sprawled across the couch...but she did not look all snug and comfy like she should've, and Roger did not like that. Pouting ever so slightly, he dashed towards her side and knelt down, frowning for a moment.

"Snow? You're not sick, are ya? 'Cause I'm not sure if you want me playing nurse, though I'll do it," he stage whispered, because that was about the only whisper he could manage while still sounding coherent. It was a Roger thing.

She heard him get up - naturally - and could only smile to herself ever so slightly as she held her face tighter in the pillow. She tugged her blanket around her tighter, curling in on herself in the way she always did when she didn't feel well. The classic fetal position - yet she made it look normal and pretty.

Snow looked up, twisting her head to look at Roger with a faint smile as he knelt beside her, her hand seeking out his. "You'd be a wonderful nurse." She assured, already feeling a bit better now that he was there. Something about his presence always did that to her, pregnant or not. Brushing hair from her face, she squeezed his hand.

"Of course I'm not sick. I don't get sick. I'm not allowed to get sick." She made a disgusted face. She knew good and well what was the cause of the problem, it was telling Roger that was making her slightly nervous. She hadn't yet figured out a way to tell him just yet, and was hoping the idea would come to her.

It certainly hadn't yet.

Stretching, she sat up and put her free hand out to steady herself as dizziness overcame her. Blinking, she shook her head and tugged her blankets up around her and fixed Roger with her gaze again. "I was wondering when you'd get up. I wanted to know what you wanted to go out and do today. Or if you wanted to stay inside. It's supposed to rain." She looked at the arching windows of the living room with a frown, noting the dark clouds rolling in the distance.

If Roger had been given some means of seeing the smile on Snow’s face as it was buried in the pillow, he sure would have appreciated it, seeing as he was that worried that maybe she was sick, and that was why she had left the bed where she had been much more snug and comfy, as any princess…heck, anyone that Roger loved with all of his heart like he loved her should’ve been. Even so, even she somehow managed to make not being at her comfiest look so cute, and even as he was whispering, his face was melting into that lovesick puppy look he had down pat. That only increased when he grinned when she said he’d make a great nurse.

“Well, y’see, my only experience is in cartoons, and that was with Baby Herman. I always wind up losing him in those…not sure if that means anything…” He let out a weak chuckle there, running a hand through his messy hair before he rested it onto their enfolded hands. He did feel better when she said she wasn’t sick, although that didn’t exactly answer too many other questions, because what on earth would make her leave the comfy bed? He hadn’t done something wrong, had he? He didn’t wear the buzzer to bed, he was pretty sure he hadn’t snored, otherwise she wouldn’t have looked so happy to see him, right? It was a simple matter of logic, and surprises of surprises, Roger had some of that.

Yet before he could ask what was wrong, because that was just what he was supposed to do as live in boyfriend, fix whatever was bothering her, she started asking him what he wanted to do today, and his problem always *was* that he had something of a one track mind. He’d be back on poking her for answers soon, of course, but for now? He dashed towards the window and looked up at the clouds.

“Oh gosh, thoooooooooooose are storm clouds all right! Y’know, if they could just have cartoons before the movies again, this would be the perfect movie day…but hey, if there’s anything you wanna see, we can do that!” He dashed back towards the couch, his mind whirring at a million miles an hour. “Then again, we could always pick something here and…ooh!” He raced to the bedroom, dragging some sheets behind him and tossing them over his head only to poke his face out of them. “We could make a fort while we watch, and make some popcorn…that’d be so much fun, don’cha think?”

Snow ran her fingers through his hair affectionatly. "Still, experience is experience and I trust myself in your capable care, doctor." She replied, although the baby thing had her slightly amused. She'd seen the cartoons, of course, and she put her full faith in Roger. Besides, it had only been acting, right?

She could practically read the curiousity written across Roger's face and knew he was likely to ask about why she had left the bed in the middle of the night. She was grateful when he didn't however, as a wave of morning sickness washed over her. She paled, but managed to hold it back. She clutched her pillow tighter to her chest and stomach as she sat up, willing it to go away before she had to fly into the bathroom.

Snow gave a forced smile. Going out would not be a good idea for her then, so she was glad when he changed his mind to building a fort. That sounded better.

"Sounds good to me." She replied. "But there's something serious I have to tell you first, Roger." She reached forward and pulled the sheets away from his face, a gentle smile flashing across her face. "Roger, I'm pregnant. You're going to be a daddy."

Was there anything better than knowing that Snow had that kinda faith in him? If there was, Roger wasn’t sure if he had encountered it yet, because his smile probably couldn’t even get bigger, even with the magic of editing back in Hollywood. “Hmm, Doctor, huh? Maybe once I get outta my hiatus, I’ll talk to ‘em about that,” he mumbled to himself, sending a wink over at his princess. All the same, it would appear that he was still very capable of missing something important, like the pain that seemed to sweep over her face while he was going on about what they could do today. Ooh, kind of reminded him of this one new cartoon. Y’know, some of them weren’t even close to the 1940’s standards, but those two brothers and their platypus knew what they were doing all right…huh, maybe he’d run into them the next time he went to visit. It’d be great to be able to tell ‘em, you know? Maybe they’d even look at him as a mentor or something, old time Toon with the new talent. That’d be so cool.

Still, even in his excitement, he eventually noticed how that smile on her face wasn’t looking quite as genuine as usual and his own fell into curious, narrowed eyes. And he was pretty sure his nose twitched a bit…it was a rabbit thing, y’know? But the point was, he quickly remembered his earlier concern, and as much as he was ready and rearing to make a fort, he wanted to make sure she was really okay. Because if she wasn’t sick, then what was going on?

Then she came closer, lifting the sheets away, and she was smiling in that way that made him melt into a puddle of goo, and she definitely didn’t look sick or unhappy now and…

"Roger, I'm pregnant. You're going to be a daddy."

It seemed like there was an echo effect going on in his brain and his eyes were definitely bugging out, and apparently, he was completely wrong about what he thought about his smile not being able to get bigger earlier, because slowly and surely, his teeth were about to split his face right open, and he wouldn’t have cared in the slightest, because oh my GOSH, THEY WERE HAVING A BABY! And he definitely said that out loud and started jumping around, and if people thought he was a nine year old on a sugar rush normally, whooey, were they about to realize that he was, in fact, even zanier than that.

“OHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSSSSH!” Then he stopped and just gazed at her like she was the most perfect thing in the world, which she absolutely was, and it looked like he was about to have two “the most perfect things in the world”, how lucky could he get! He quickly threw his arms around her, while of course making sure to not, y’know, knock her down, that couldn’t have been good for babies, gosh, they were having a babyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

“Oh Snow, I love you, I love you, I love you so much!” he whispered before kissing her with all of that excited energy he had going on now, because how could this possibly not be the best thing ever! Wow, what a way to wake up in the morning!

Snow held her breath as she waited for his response, slight panic rising up in her chest. Would he be happy? Was it okay? It was unexpected to say the least, but she had the faith they could handle it. Right? Roger thought the same? She wasn't doing well, questioning everything, and it nearly made her sick again. Thankfully, however, Roger spoke and Snow relaxed beyond belief.

She laughed at his reaction, which was undoubtably true to Roger's form. He seemed happy, which in turn made her happier. Her panic had been for nothing, of course. Silly girl, thinking it would be a bad thing and he wouldn't be happy. This was Roger for pete's sake!

She fell back onto the couch with another laugh when he wrapped his arms around her. Snow mirrored him, her arms wrapping tightly around him as she buried her face into his chest.

"I'm glad you're happy!" She murmured, voice muffled slightly. "It makes me insanely happy, Roger. We're going to have a baby!" She giggled, leaning back to brush hair from her eyes.

"I love you too!" She managed to get out before he kissed her with as much energy as he felt and she felt - she'd missed out on this bliss.

It was probably a good thing that Roger didn’t realize that Snow was worried that Roger wouldn’t be happy about the idea of having a baby. Who knows how much zanier he would behave just to prove the point that he couldn’t possibly want anything else but being the daddy of Snow’s baby? After all, Roger was a show man, a performer, and if he had to be even more convincing, he was going to darn well do that to make sure she got just how happy he was about what had to be the best news he had heard in the whole wide world! There was actually only one thing that could possibly be equal to it, and it hadn’t even happened yet, but even in his frenzied “Babyvision” state, there were a few diamonds floating around in his head…someday, definitely, as soon as he could make it perfect.

But for the time being, Snow somehow managed to look even more like the angel as she let him know that she was so happy that he was happy about the fact they were having a baby (can you tell that he was never going to get tired of saying that?). “Of course I am! Snow, this is the best thing I’ve ever heard! And we are, we are, we are, and I’ll bet it’ll be as gorgeous and perfect as you!” he exclaimed, still squishing her as close as he could without hurting her (even a Toon knew that humans had their limits, after all).

And gosh, he was pretty sure he would just flat out collapse if he went through a single day without hearing her tell him that she loved him back. When he finally pulled away from the kiss, but still held onto her like the precious thing she was, he just had to sigh, and it was just a good thing he didn’t literally turn into goo in her hands. Might be more of a downer that you would expect, at least at a time like this; it was probably why it didn’t happen, since it wouldn’t have been all that funny.

“Oh Snow,” he sighed, starting to cuddle a bit more with her, nuzzling her neck before squishing her again. “I know I said it already, but phooey, I’ll say it again; I love you and…” He then rested a gentle hand on her stomach. “I love our baby so, so, so much.”
