If Eddie had known what was going through Todd's mind, he probably would have groaned, but the other boy didn't mention it, and Eddie was allowed to continue on blissfully unaware that his new friend was yet another person who thought his dad was the most awesome thing ever, which he kind of was, but Eddie had sort of gotten over that fact since it meant that he was required to be the most awesome thing ever, and he really wasn't.
"They did?" Eddie perked up at that, he had heard a lot about when his parents were here at school, that was why Gaston was his best friend after all, his parents had taken him and Gwyn to visit their friends in Camelot long before they'd come to school. His dad had told him all about the legends of King Arthur first, and then taken him to actually meet the man, and Guinevere, and Merlin, and all the rest of them. That had been pretty amazing, he viewed Gaston's family with the same sort of hero-worship that most people reserved for his. "So did mine. What are your parents called?"
It was probably lucky that Todd didn’t mention Robin Hood because he wouldn’t have wanted to make Eddie feel bad about not being as good as his dad or anything like that. And besides, who would want to be friends with the guy who made you feel bad that you weren’t as good as your dad? No one. So yeah, it was a good thing Todd hadn’t mentioned it.
But it was pretty cool that Eddie’s parents had been here too. Although, Todd was finding that to be a pretty common thread around here. And he had probably heard some stories about other people’s parents from time to time. His parents were pretty friendly what with his mom thinking that everyone was her friend and his dad wanting to be everyone’s friend.
“My parents are Bartok and Giselle. I don’t know if you’ve heard about them. My mom liked to sing at people. Actually, she still does. Anyways, you might have heard about my dad. For a while, like everybody wanted to be his best friend. Yeah,” he finished awkwardly. Talking about his parents usually got him weird looks, so he tried to avoid it. “Who are your parents. I might have heard about them. Stories from my parents and whatnot.”
Eddie thought about it long and hard, but eventually he had to shake his head regretfully, he wished he'd been able to tell Todd that he had heard of his parents, but the names didn't ring a bell - probably because his memory wasn't the greatest.
"I don't think so...but next time I talk to my parents I'll ask them." He promised, feeling bad about not being able to say he knew the names. Sometimes it was fun having famous parents, even if it did make people expect more of you than you could really do, but he was used to that. He always felt like he ought to have heard of everybody else's parents just like they'd heard of his. "My parents are Robin and Marian, of Locksley." Sometimes he could get away with saying Robin of Locksley without people making the connection, the problem was that mentioning both of his parents usually made it fairly obvious, especially when he'd already said he came from Nottingham.
Todd didn’t really mind that Eddie wasn’t familiar with his parents. It was better that way. Don’t get him wrong, Todd loved his parents and they really were his best friends, but other people often thought they were weird. His dad was forever trying to give him stuff and trying to give all of his friends stuff too. And his mom just kept talking to animals as if they could talk back and she just burst into song all the time, where ever she happened to be. I mean, this was totally normal for Todd, but not so normal for most people and while he put up and went along with his parents antics, other people thought they were odd. Very odd. And that didn’t exactly go well for Todd in the whole wanting people to like him thing.
He shrugged at the other boy. “It’s not really a big deal.” It wasn’t really. Actually, it was better if people didn’t know his parents. That way they wouldn’t think that Todd was totally weird be association or anything like that. People did not want to be friends with the weird guy.
“Marian and Robin of Locksley?” Todd repeated, and it took him a moment to put the puzzle pieces together. “So, like, Robin Hood and Maid Marian then.” He nodded, taking it in all in slowly and trying not to spaz or anything that would be classified as weird. He actually had to bite his tongue to stop himself from spouting hero worship poetry. So instead he took a moment to collect himself, then stuck his hands in his pockets. Rocking back on his heels a little bit he finally said “Cool.” Todd then pulled one hand out of his pocket and scratched the back of his head awkwardly. “So…you want to go do something?”
If Eddie was that way inclined, he could have kissed Todd for his reaction. Yes, he obviously did know who his parents were, but his reaction was so understated and, well, uncommon; usually when somebody had heard of his parents they did nothing but fanboy (or girl) over them and make Eddie feel terrible, but Todd just... Eddie wasn't observant enough to notice that he was trying to surpress the urge to do exactly that, but even if he had he would have just appreciated the gesture. The only other person who hadn't fanboyed like that had been Gaston, because they'd practically grown up together, and that definitely made him want to consider Todd a friend immediately, any resemblance to his best friend made Eddie predisposed to like someone.
"Ok....like what?" Eddie said, practically beaming despite having no idea what their plans might be, so pleased was he at Todd's relaxed reaction and instant subject-change.
Todd was glad that Eddie seemed happy at his reaction, or lack or reaction rather. Todd had learned that people with famous parents didn’t always like when you fawned over said famous parent. And it was pretty clear that Todd had reacted just right in this situation, even though it was killing him a little to hold in this much excitement. But it wasn’t really a big deal. He could always call his dad later and tell him the exciting news while hugging his unicorn pillow pet. Yeah, that sounded like a good idea.
And now for the hard part: deciding what to go do Eddie. Er…he really hadn’t thought this through very well had he? Um…what should they do? Jake could always use a walk, but he was back in the dorms and that would be really inconvenient and Jake wasn’t really fond of strangers. He was a shy turtle if ever there was one. So, uh, they should do something else. “Er…we could…catch a movie?” He shrugged. “Or something else. I have no idea what movies are out at the moment though.”
"We could go and see..." Eddie started excitedly, and then stopped, trailing off. No, he couldn't possibly suggest that the two of them go and see any of the new superhero movies that were out, even if Gaston wasn't here, it would just be wrong to go and see them with anybody else. "Never mind." he finished lamely, shaking his head and frowning in concentration.
"Why don't we just go to the cinema and see what's on?" He suggested finally, since going to see a film was a pretty good idea that they'd both be able to enjoy, and it was easier to go along with that rather than backtrack and have to try and think of something else to do instead.
((Maybe send them off to their movie and wrap this scene up?))
Todd thought that going to see a movie was actually a really good idea. He could focus on something other than the fact that Eddie’s dad was Robin Hood, which automatically made Eddie awesome too. The whole son of a hero thing was pretty amazing in Todd’s book because he was just from a regular family. Well, mostly regular anyway. He waited politely while Eddie thought of a movie they could see. Honestly Todd had no idea what was playing at the moment.
“Yeah, sure,” Todd agreed, chalking up the ‘never mind’ to simply not knowing what movie were playing at the moment. It was probably better to go see what choices they had before making a decision. Todd wouldn’t want to make a decision and then have Eddie hate the movie. Then he’d probably never want to go to the movies ever again. “Let’s go,” he said, heading towards the door, trusting Eddie to follow. This should be a lot of fun actually!
