Well, this had turned awkward very quickly and Todd felt bad. He hadn’t meant to bring up bad memories or whatever. He really needed to start thinking about things before he said them. He should probably apologize. Did he know any poems that were good for apologies? Probably not. “Er, well…I’m sorry?” It was a question because he didn’t really know what to do. So instead he twirled her under his arm. Not that solved any problems, but he needed to do something and they were dancing so it seemed like a good thing to do.
Headmistress Redd Heart. He was pretty sure he hadn’t heard a lot about her. “I’m pretty sure my parents had other things to deal with. I’ve heard stories about some horrible Rasputin guy and I don’t think she was Headmistress when my mom came here. But I doubt she would have known her. She was too busy trying to get the animals to talk to her.” He was rambling, mostly because he was feeling awkward. Although, he rambled anyway, so it didn’t really make a difference.
He was really glad that their conversation had turned back to talking animals, even if he had no idea what a Bandersnatch was. It didn’t really matter. It talked. “Talking animals are great!” He nodded enthusiastically. “Visiting home is great too. That’s my favorite. Because then you don’t have to miss it anymore and everything you love is right there. You know? All your favorite stuffed animal ponies and purple bedroom. And it’s all familiar and yours. And it’s just great!”
