Attention all Avalonians/TIntagelians, I may have just found our perfect book!
We all know and love these kinds of stories; an ordinary little kid who just wants to escape from their life for one reason or another winds up in a magical land. We've seen it in Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz and The Chronicles of Narnia. That is the pattern this book follows; David is a young boy growing up in England during WWII, and his mother's just died. His father remarries and has another baby with his new wife rather quickly. Needless to say, he hates his life, and basically reads his fairytales to try to ignore it all. This would be just fine if the books would stop whispering to him. Eventually, he gets swallowed up into a world where all of his fairytales and mythology books merge.
Now before you say that you've heard it all before...trust me, there are enough twists and turns that you'll probably be riveted, with all of the tales turned on their heads, and not to mention the surprising conclusion. Even better is that the author has notes at the end of the book, that includes copies of all the fairytales he references and explanations of where he drew inspiration for aspects of the book.
So I figure that we can all put our own book recommendations for everyone in this thread, and if other people read it, we can then all talk about it (obviously covering up spoilers ). Sounds fun,, right? Sharing is caring and books are wonderful, so why not?
