Hinrik,

You absolutely can and should say no, but, I figured I would ask. No one away home knows anything about fighting. My mother refuses to teach me anything she knows beyond basic self defense and my father...I’m not going to ask my father. My roommate knows how to fight, but I refuse to ask him and anyone else at this school I just refuse to talk to.

When you get back teach me how to fight. If you feel like it. Or whatever. You don’t have too, you were just the only person I could think of.

Also tell me if you get hurt. Not that I even think about it or worry, I’m just curious.

Dear Aiden,

I’m sorry about my last letter. I don’t particularly like being thrown through time space at someone else’s whim. I feel utterly mad going to sleep in that sleepy little village and then waking up in a Viking village. I tried speaking to them in English and of course they didn’t understand me. Father had to be the one to remind me of where we were. It was like when Bryn and I were little. We spoke Old Norse with my father and when we were small we would speak Old Norse with each other, especially in front of others. My father considered this rude and would put a hand on each of our heads, ever so gently, and he would say, “English please,” in that low gruff voice of his.

He came into the hall, amongst all the shouting. I was so confused. He came over to me and put his hand on my shoulder and in that low gruff voice of his he said, “Norse, son.” I have to admit that I cried then and my Father held me. I don’t know what to do with that.

Did I ever tell you that when my mum and father met each other at school, he decided to call her the Norse word for kitten? He called her that today and I don't think I've ever told you about it. It's disgustingly cute.

I found a stray dog. It's got 3 legs and it's adorable. I have to convince Father to let me bring him home. He said no already but I think it was because I've decided to call the dog Grendel after an enemy from looking ago. Father ripped arm off. I think it suits the poor little stray.
