“She was impressed it caught on, not necessarily in the hairstyle,” clarified Tristian, “you’re still a long way off setting trends like her…or me…or Jenny, but yes…she was impressed.”
He thought about it for a moment as she asked if there was anything else and then shook his head, “no I think that about covers it.”
He was about to move away when he thought of something else, “Oh! Yes. One more thing. Gaston Jr, mother has asked me to look out for any potential ‘girlfriends’ for him, I plan on doing so but given that you know him exceptionally well and probably know more of the kinds of girls he would like I thought you might help me look out for one of them. I don’t exactly move in the same circle as the two of you, so if you could provide some suggestions I would be grateful. Don’t worry, mother knows I have enlisted your expertise in all things geek.”

"Yea I figured as much," Meredith admitted "I know if she was actually impressed with the hairstyle she would have worn it and then everyone would have been wearing it for a lot longer. Still, impressing your mum with anything is hard, so I'm still going to be smug about it."
"Oh..." she frowned thoughtfully "Nobody immediately springs to mind, but I'll keep an eye out and let you know. I'll see if there's anybody he pays particular attention to as well and let you know..." she wondered if that was a betrayal of the best friend code, to go and tell said friend's brother about girls they had a crush on, but when it was also your brother and they would likely ensure that the friend got with the person they had a crush on as long as they were suitable... it was complicated but she was pretty sure it was okay.
"Good chat," she grinned. "I better head back to the dorm, I've got some homework to finish, but I'll see you later?"
“It’s not that hard to impress her,” said Tristian with a shrug, “if you know how to do it. But fine, enjoy your smugness, I suppose in some way it has been earned.”
Was that a brief hesitation? No doubt she was weighing up whether it was ‘ethical’ for her to let slip who her best friend was interested in, but really, who was better at this sort of thing than his mother. She would be able to figure out if the girl was good enough for her boy in no time. However Meredith agreed and that was enough, whether she made good on it he would wait and see but for now her word was enough.
“Homework? Is that code for one of your silly games with the strange looking dice?” said Tristian, however he waved a hand dismissively and said, “yes, yes, on you go. I have far more important things to…do, anyway. Enjoy your evening.”

"No! Actual homework!" Meredith protested, though after a moment she begrudgingly admitted "The game is tomorrow night. And I still think you'd enjoy it if you came along..." although she didn't know how Gaston and Eddie would feel about having Tristian around playing as well, she didn't think they'd mind, but if Tristian ever actually showed interest in the game she'd have to make sure they were okay with it first.
"You too," she replied, giving Dis one more quick pat before turning away and heading out the stables. It was weird, as she turned to leave, she could have sworn she saw the stable boy brighten up, like he was glad she was leaving... maybe he just wanted to close the place up for the night? Whatever the reason, it was forgotten as soon as she stepped out into the cool evening air, the stable door swinging shut behind her.
